can i bind books with this, would it be good? it serves?

Not sure if you want to bind a book for yourself or books to be sold. You can use this glue, remember this is hot glue, it will glue just about anything I would think. I use it to glue floral stems in grapevine wreaths. These books are they for your on personal use or books to be sold? If you will be selling these books you may want to google the right glue for your books. Hope this helps you & not confuse you more.

How do I clean up a Glue Skillet?

You could wipe it out with some rag cloth while hot if you are careful. I try not to put too much in and add if I use more than expected. But since I use the same glue I do not clean mine, just unplug and let cool...it's not sticky at all when cool.

does this glue hold up to the elements better than regular glue gun? ie... extreme hot or cold temperatures

The surebonder glue holds up well for the wreaths I use it on. Have not had a problem with it here in Louisiana. We have humid & hot temperatures, had no problems or in our winters either.
