Luke has never been to school. He’s never had a birthday party, or gone to a friend’s house for an overnight. In fact, Luke has never had a friend. Luke is one of the shadow children, a third child forbidden by the Population Police. He’s lived his entire life in hiding, and now, with a new housing development replacing the woods next to his family’s farm, he is no longer even allowed to go outside. Then, one day Luke sees a girl’s face in the window of a house where he knows two other children already live. Finally, he’s met a shadow child like himself. Jen is willing to risk everything to come out of the shadows—does Luke dare to become involved in her dangerous plan? Can he afford not to? Review: Nostalgic, interesting and a fast read - I read this book back when I was in middle school so I decided to order it and re-read it. No regrets. It’s a very good book and even got me in my feels a bit 😭😂 Definitely very interesting and a fast read. Once I opened it and started on the first page, I didn’t want to put it down. Review: Great book - I like to think its like a pre Hunger Games. - We have read this twice in my high school special ed classes. I like to think of it as a pre hHunger Games novel. Maybe between the time of the famine and when the districts went to war with the capitol. People are limited to two children, and if you're caught with any more, they're taken and executed. This is the story about one such "extra" child and his quest to be free and not have to hide. It's a great school age book, especially for science fiction or young adult fans. ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | Best Sellers Rank | #84,882 in Kindle Store ( See Top 100 in Kindle Store ) #59 in Children's Fantasy & Supernatural Mystery Books #104 in Children's Mystery & Detective Adventure #225 in Fantasy for Children | ## Images ![Among the Hidden (Shadow Children Book 1) - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81Pw3OpMSxL.jpg) ## Available Options This product comes in different **Media Language, Media Format** options. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Nostalgic, interesting and a fast read *by S***H on March 15, 2026* I read this book back when I was in middle school so I decided to order it and re-read it. As a classroom teacher, I use this book in my reading grips. I enjoy teaching the kids using this imaginary world that they can all relate to and the price of the book is perfect. Many of us. Teachers have to purchase eight or 10 books for our small group instruction out of our own pocket so I really appreciate the price. --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.it/products/141120591-among-the-hidden-shadow-children-book-1](https://www.desertcart.it/products/141120591-among-the-hidden-shadow-children-book-1) --- *Product available on Desertcart Italy* *Store origin: IT* *Last updated: 2026-10-08*
