Super Value Calligraphy Kit

This is a great set. The pen is firm, the nibs are well made, not cheap. The ink is rich and doesn't bleed through. The cleaner works very quickly if you use it immediately after using your nibs but works well if you don't use it right away too (just takes a little time). The silver "foil" looks great with the rich black ink. The pots are all generous sized. The book is great, it's more like a little pamphlet but is very descriptive and makes it super easy to learn calligraphy. My work looked amazing after the first try when I used this book. This set is a great value for all you get.

I'm complete newbie to calligraphy, so I was looking for a kit that had all the essentials a beginner might need. This kit is very nice, and contains just enough to get your feet wet and decide if calligrapy is something you want to pursue further. I was very impressed with the ink. It didn't bleed, even on a cheaper quality paper. The kit comes with some sheets of calligraphy practice paper, which is convenient. Make sure you clean the nibs with the enclosed solution, rubbing alcohol, or dishwashing soap and warm water before using for the first time. You'll save yourself a lot of grief. The only thing this kit lacks is a good instruction booklet. The enclosed instruction manual shows a few of the more popular fonts, but I don't think it's really the best resource for someone who knows nothing about calligraphy. Invest in a book for this purpose if you're like me and know nothing about line width, spacing, ascenders, descenders, and the like. I have not yet used the silver ink that came with it, so I can't speak on the quality of it. But if the rest of the kit is any indication, I'm sure the quality of it is good. For the price, I'm happy with this kit. It would make a great gift for someone interested in calligraphy.

I used this for my wedding invitations. I printed the address on my envelopes with my printer in the font of my choice and then traced it with this pen and ink. It worked perfect. Lovely, clean and strait addresses that looked professionally done. You could not see the printer ink through the black ink that I used. The selection of "nubs" were nice and the whole product was easy to use.

I decided to learn calligraphy and after reading other reviews for the Speedball products, I decided to purchase this one. I was not disappointed. It's a great beginner set because it has the different nibs, the ink and the cleaner. I will continue to buy other Speedball products based on this purchase.My only complaint is about the practice paper but that's not a big deal because the price for the kit was reasonable. I would recommend purchasing another notebook or calligraphy paper in addition to this.

I had a hard time with the ink. It seems a little too clear and writes almost gray, rather than a dense black. I tried to shake it but it didn't help. This is a great beginner set though and great for practicing before attempting anything from a more expensive finer set. For what I was using it for, I could've splurged for something of a higher quality, but as I said, if you're just learning and you need to practice, this is perfect.

I did some research by reading many reviews on many different calligraphy kits and settled on this one as a gift for my wife. I believe it is a good value for the money. My wife has enjoyed using the set and I have heard no complaints. Shipping was timely. One of the hard things for me was to decide what style pen to purchase for somebody else without actually letting them know I was considering the purchase. If someone expresses an interest in receiving a calligraphy pen or set you would do well to see what style they are interested in as there are quite a few options out there.

I bought this kit to use while learning copperplate calligraphy from Eleanor Winters' manual. The nibs are too broad and not very good for this purpose, and the paper is not good quality for this task, either, with guidelines too dark to see your own work and paper too eager to soak up blots of ink. While you might get Winters' book here, you might get an accompanying nib starter kit and calligraphy paper elsewhere.

Just starting to learn calligraphy and I found that this is a good starter set. However, after practicing and more online research, I realized that I wanted a more flexible nib in order to make both thin and thick lines. The C series will kind of do that with down strokes thicker and the side strokes thinner, but the A and B series mostly make uniformly thick lines. I like the ink, it seems to work well and looks nice. The silver ink doesn't work very well, it seems kind of thin, but I don't really plan on using it.

I chose this product because it came with the required ink and stick pen. The item is made well and the ink is good quality. I would recommend this to calligraphers.

I found that te ink was a great quality, how ever the nibs seemed to be somewhat unstable. I find myself readjusting the positioning of the bits and pieces frequently in order to get optimum use.
