Worked for my MacBook Air (late 2010)
I upgraded the SSD in my MacBook Air and used this to make the old SSD into an external drive. Works excellent. I was able to hook it up to my MacBook after installing a different hard drive and was able to use migration assistant to transfer files without issue!

Fit well, didn't work. UPDATE: It works!
This adapter fit perfectly for my MacBook Air SSD, but when I connected it to another computer via USB, no external drive appeared. I don't know what's wrong, but it doesn't help me recover my data. UPDATE: It works! I'm changing my review to five stars. I fixed my problem by connecting the adapter to a laptop with the same OS as the OS on the external SDD. Very cool.

Does exactly what it is supposed to do, very specific to a 2010-2011 SSD, pay attention
If you need the data off of your 2010-2011 Macbook SSD then this device is a life saver. The main board on my 2011 macbook died so the only way to get the data back was to use this device. I purchased a new macbook, plugged the SSD into this SATA adapter device, inserted it into the new macbook USB port and I was back in business. The Macbook actually saw the SSD and figured it was from an old system. It asked if I wanted to migrate my data to the new Macbook, I said yes and then sat back and watched the transfer.

Unsure what lights mean
There is a red light labeled 'access' and a blue light labeled power. I have tried 2 ssd's and tried to google what these lights mean. When I plugged into a windows machine and another mac it did not recognize the drive.

Works As Described
My wife's Macbook Air 2010 died almost exactly 10 years after she bought it. This adapter allowed me, after extracting the SSD from the old Macbook Air, to use the old SSD as an external hard drive for a new Macbook Air. The SSD slides into a circuit board, which itself slides into an adapter-there's even a screw and screwdriver provided to keep the SSD attached to the circuit board. The new Mac recognized the SSD without problems. No complaints
