He was killing my grass in the area of the yard that he frequently urinated. I placed the Pee Post in the pine mulch around a Palm tree where I wanted him to start urinating. It has a very strong smell of urine. The next time he needed to go out, I put him on a leach and took him straight to the Pee Post and gave him his normal command to “go potty”. He smelled it, lifted his leg, and peed on it. I then gave him praise saying “good boy, go pee pee on the tree!” I then brought him back in the house to get him a treat all while repeating the new command “good boy, go pee pee on the tree!” For the next three days I kept him on a leach when letting him out and gave the new command, “go pee pee on the tree”. After 3 days I began letting him out without a leach but pointed to the tree while still giving him the new command. It has been 3 weeks now. He has had a few times where he started peeing on the grass but I just gave him a strong “NO” command and repeated the new command. I would say he is about 90% retrained at this point proving you can teach an old dog new tricks!
