ALZO Copy Stand for Macro Tabletop Studio and Overhead Product Photography

This was perfect for my use in directly copying old film and transparencies to a digital camera. The angled support column is the most important feature that allows the camera to be easily placed above the 5x7" light box. A vertical column would have made this much more difficult. Surprisingly rigid for the small column size. Certainly a good value for the price.

I used this copy stand to duplicate some family snapshots and negatives. It was easy to assemble and adjust. I like that the column is slanted because it seems to help keep the image centered as you move up and down. It is a snap to move the camera up and down the column, and to lock it in position. I mounted my Nikon D800 with a 100mm micro lens attached and it was stable enough for my purposes. I used a remote to trigger the camera to help avoid camera shake, and a level to make sure camera was in register with the print or negative. This was the second copy stand I tried. I returned the Cosmo Mini 500 because though it could support the camera the center column couldn't be tightened enough to make is totally stable. It just always had a wiggle.

I like that the column is angled. I like the size. The price was fine. However, the quick release plate is difficult to screw onto my camera tightly. It does not allow me to use one I already own. So, the result is that my camera ends up sagging and not staying level. If you can tighten the screw enough, it is a good base.

Great! Just takes up a lot of space. So be sure to keep that in mind before you purchase. It’s sturdy and operates great.

For my needs, copy work using a Macro 105 and Canon 5D, this is perfect. And affordable. A few other's at lesser price didn't get great reviews so I decided this was the least expensive unit for the task, it's very stable for my needs. I do use a remote to fire the camera to allow everything to stabilize and shooting 35mm backlit slides and other copy work, the results are tack sharp.

it's very simple to modify this unit into a really good, stable, copy stand that could be sold at a considerably higher price!As received, this item suffered from two primary problems:1. The QR mechanism seems proprietary - and I needed it to be Arca Swiss compatible.2. The plastic holder into which the column fit before being bolted to the baseplate, allowed the column to wobble to a totally unacceptable degree.I EASILY overcame both of the above problems and now have a really excellent copy stand. Here's what I did:1. I undid the bolt that held the proprietary QR receiver to the "slider" that goes up/down the column, and used the same bolt to hold an Arca Swiss receiver of which I had drilled out and deeply countersunk the fixing hole to match the original bolt.2. I removed the two screws that held the column in the plastic holder which attaches it to the baseboard. Then, with the column removed from the plastic holder, I drizzled some Gorilla Glue into each internal corner of the holder, then replaced the column and tightened the two screws. THEN, I put the column with the holder attached tightly by the two screws, aside for a whole week without touching it. This assembly was NOT attached to the baseboard while the glue hardened.After the week, I attached the column to the baseboard and then attached a camera to the Arca Swiss QR receiver for evaluation/testing.I found the camera to be precisely at 90 degrees to the baseboard and found there to be no "play" whatsoever between the column and baseboard. Yes, if I stress the column unnaturally, either it or the baseboard does flex a little, but the whole assembly is beautifully stable with my Sony A7RIV-a and choice between several lenses.I happened to have Gorilla Glue and a spare Arca Swiss receiver on hand, so the modifications cost exactly NOTHING, but the result is that I now possess a really excellent copy stand for which I paid only a "song".Pete
