Perfect for my needs
First off, I bought these in the Amazon Prime Day sales for £70 which is a total bargain. I would not consider myself an audiophile and if you are then you will probably want to invest more money into your headphones but the quality on these should suit most people. Very clear sound and I've picked up sound that I've never heard before on tracks I listen to often. I found these when looking for open backed headphones, partly because I want to be aware of my surroundings when I'm wearing them and partly so they don't make my ears feel as hot as my older headphones. Another benefit was that they feel more like listening to speakers rather than just being blasted into my ears but that could be personal preference. The open backed nature does mean there is sound leakage, both for you hearing external sound but also others being able to hear your music, so that's something you will need to consider for your usage. Very comfortable to wear for longer periods of time partially due to being lightweight though maybe not as portable as folding headphones would be but I don't need that. Very easy to use, no controls on the headphones so controlled completely through whatever you plug them into. In the box you get a 1.2m cable with a 3.5mm jack plug and a 3m cable with a 6.3mm jack plug, however there is also a 6.3mm to 3.5mm adapter included so you can still use the longer cable with devices that have a 3.5mm socket. The adapter makes the plug quite long so maybe not a great solution if you intend to use it with a portable device like a phone. The leads have a twist and lock mechanism to secure them into the headphones which is fantastic but you will need to be aware of that if you intend to swap over to the 3m cable. Overall, with the considerations I've given above, I would fully recommend these headphones for people wanting wired open back headphones without paying hundreds of pounds. Especially great value if you can pick them up on sale.

Comfortable, good sound and great price when on sale.
The best headphones I have ever owned. Comfortable for prolonged use and great quality sound too. The padding failed after 2 years of use, so I bought a new set of the same model while I find replacement pads. Genuine Sennheiser pads are hard to find. I like the way the cable plugs into the headset and twists to lock into place. I also like the choice of cables included, that allows me to use the shorter cable to plug into my computer. The pass through sound means I can hear activity around me when I wear these, walking to the village shops. Great value for money when on sale.

Good at around £100 but not great compared to Bose in ear
I bought these Sennheiser HD 599 "ears" on a Black Friday deal for £99. The reason I bought them is, I damaged (but still working) wires on my +/- 15 year old Bose in ear headphones (wired with no noise cancelling), with the Bose replacement costing also around this mark. I thought I would give these over ear phones a go based on reviews, and to get even better sound. My review is a comparison to the Bose in ear phones. The type of music I listen to range from classical, pop, rock, heavy metal, country and well, any music I like. Mostly older songs, I am not into the modern manufactured repetitive boom-boom stuff although I do have very good rap and rave (type repetitive) songs. I use "ears" only for listening via an iPod and laptop, as my sound system has excellent Monitor Audio speakers. Quality and comfort. The Sennheiser HD 599s feel plasticky but do not let the put you off, I think it helps towards keeping the weight down. They are comfortable to wear for long listening sessions, a lot more comfortable than much cheaper ears I had in my younger days. The Bose (though very small) feels solid and as for wearing comfort, I do not know I have them on, that is how good they are. Sound. These two ears are different, it depends on what you like. When I first listened to the Sennheisers, I was disappointed, I expected more but now I'm (nearly) onboard. After about an hour, I swapped between the Bose and these, and realised why. They give a different experience. The Sennheisers give a smooth deep richer (not excessive) base sound, while still hearing everything. One way to put it is, the music is smeared all over your brain in smooth chocolate. Whereas the Bose, when I first put them on, they blew my mind, a WOW I did not expect that moment. They do not give as "rich" (base-y) sound as the Sennheisers but do not get me wrong, they give amazing base. It is just that they are not as smooth or deep as the Sennheisers. You do however hear where every instrument is placed and every note played, in detail. No smeared in relaxing dark chocolate here, the light is shone on every note. Which would I buy again. Tricky, it depends. Please do not get me wrong, these Sennheisers are very good and super comfortable and I am keeping them but, if the Bose and these are at the same price, for my taste and comfort, I will get the Bose. If the Sennheisers are full price at £170, it is Bose for me no question. It would have been interesting to compare a Bose over ear to the Sennheisers but that is for someone else.

Great sound quality for the price
Sound good and are very comfortable. However they do leak sound, so could be annoying to others. But great if you are alone.

Sennheiser Keeping Up The Quality.
I have been using sennheiser headphones since the 80s and it's good to see that the quality has not diminished. The hd 599 se headphones that I received today are really comfortable to wear, the sound quality is excellent, the build is very nice, two interchangeable power cords one long and one shorter. Also the overall design is very cool looking.

I bought these headphones on sale after reading a lot of incredible reviews for them and I couldn't be happier. The HD599 are an upgraded and overall better version of HD598. The version they sell here on Amazon is HD599SE which means they come in a more modest packaging compared to the original one and with 1 extra shorter 3.5mm cable perfect for mobile use. The headphones themselves have a 2.5mm jack which has Sennheiser's proprietary locking mechanism which might make some 2.5mm cables not compatible with the headphones. The main cable is pretty long and comes with 6.3mm jack, they also include a 6.3 to 3.5mm adapter but the whole contraption becomes bulky and slightly inconvenient for me because I plugged it in my desktop PC which is close to a wall. The sound is astonishing, I think these are some headphones that anyone can enjoy. The thing I like the most about them is the soundstage. You can hear every little detail and determine the position in space of every instrument in live music. The whole experience is incredibly immersive, watching movies, listening to music and playing games has never been more enjoyable for me. Speaking of games the headphones offer a real advantage is first person shooters or any games that relies on hearing sounds like footsteps. I play a lot of Rainbow Six Siege and I noticed a great improvement of my spacial awareness since I started using these headphones, especially in vertical play, previously I struggled to determine if a sound was coming from above or below, now it's a breeze. Alongside this the headphones are incredibly comfortable. The clamping force is very subtle and doesn't provoke any discomfort and is just enough so the headphones don't wiggle on your head. As a person who wears glasses I tend to adjust the headphones to the looser side, I leave the headband so that it barely presses on my head and the cups cover my entire ear so the ear rests inside. By doing this I experience zero discomfort even with glasses on. These are open back headphones which means that you get fuller, wider and more natural sound, alongside more comfort because the headphones allow your ears to breathe, however they leak a bit of sound because of this. It's barely audible in a quiet room so I would't worry about it too much but they also don't provide any sound isolation due to their open back design. For the this is a pro, because I can easily hear what's happening around me while listening to something but if you plan to use them in a noisy environment you might want to look at something else. They will deafen the sound if you turn them loud enough but please save your ears and get some closed back headphones or ANCs. This is the reason I won't recommend these headphones for travelling, I was on some flights with them and I can say that I would've really liked some noise isolation, they are also a bit bulky to wear on the neck especially if also wear a jacket. Overall I am very satisfied with the headphones and I really recommend them. I still think they are a bit overpriced like every other Hifi product but compared to the rest of headphones at this price point I think this is the best choice for most people. Get them if you want gaming headphones, they will be better than any gaming headset you can buy at this price, if you really need a microphone there are modmics that you can use and there are plenty of tutorials on how to install budget mics like the V-Moda one on this pair of headphones.

Having owned the Sony WH1000XM6 and also the Sennheiser Momentum 4's, I can say these cans are superb! But that needs some explanation. There is no app (I'm aware of at least) for these, as with the Momentum 4's. They are not "fancy"- but are incredibly comfy! I wear 2 "behind the ear" hearing aids and often readers too and I can wear these all day. Because the pads are so large and the way they are angled, means that for the FIRST time - ever - I can turn up my hearing aids without constant squealing in my ears! Is that extra volume impacting my sense of the sound? Probably. But that IS still the point because these are thus far - the only cans I am able to do this with. So, it IS the headphones. Then there is the mid-range clarity and highs - WOW! Out of the box these are not as "bass-forward" as the XM6's - but with either an EQ on your phone, tablet or external DAC, they can be, without being muddy or thumpy. And once boosted there is PLENTY of tight, full, satisfying bass that is still controlled and not booming. I am running a $58 small AIYIMA DAC that sounds phenomenal with these cans. Listening to "No Easy Way Out" (Robert Tepper from "Rocky IV") sounds incredible! The opening bass/drum section sounds full, tight, dynamic. "Africa" and "Hold the Line" by Toto have never sounded better to my ears. The bass is full, warm and tight. Trebles have excellent clarity without being harsh. I got these on sale and unless the HD600 line *truly* blows these away - maybe so - why pay more? "I'm In A Hurry" by Alabama, it’s opening vocal intro sounds amazing. "500 Miles" by the Proclaimers when the bass and drum "kick in" (sorry), sound incredible! I can go on and on. "Everything I Do" by Bryan Adams or “God Bless the Broken Road" by Rascal Flatts sound pristine, clear, rich, balanced and nuanced...my favorite instrumental music with piano / cello and acoustic guitar sound remarkable. Even more so - to my surprise - on You Tube. Playing games on my PC is a new experience - especially in the ability to hear "directional" sounds etc. The XM6's have more "punch" in the sounds of guns, explosions, but don't have the clarity or directional element as these do. Having now experienced this difference, I MUCH prefer it! Dolby Atmos tracks in Movies on Apple TV, Prime, Netflix sound detailed, rich, balanced, warm. These are my first experience in the "open back" headphone field and I can honestly say, I AM impressed! IF - just saying IF I return these, it will ONLY be to experience an even higher level of "audiophile" sound in the HD600 series. Seriously - if GOOD SOUND quality really matters to you at your desk, in your room, or office where you will not disturb others around you with the sound "bleed" that comes from the open backs, you owe it to yourself to try these! I prefer these in every way to my XM6's and paid approx 1/3rd the price for them! Sure, they do not have ANC - but who buys open back headphones for that feature?
