The game is fine, but
The game is fine, but I started playing the ps4 edition "upgraded" to the ps5 edition, that I had borrowed from my public library. I liked it well enough that I decided to buy it instead of checking it out over and over. So I bought the ps5 edition because it's the same as the upgraded edition, right? Wrong. My ps5 didn't recognize them as the same game even though I had "upgraded" the one I started with. So my save on the machine/cloud didn't transfer and I had to download the save from ubisoft. (you have to manually upload saves to the ubisoft cloud. It doesn't do it automatically like ps+ does) But none of the trophies or anything transferred with it, even though I have only played it on my ps5. So in the end I am borrowing it from my library anyway, because I am not starting over since I've completed two areas so far. If I had known I wouldn't have bothered buying it even though it was only $15. I don't think I'll ever replay it, there isn't any branching storylines or anything. It's an ok action game, the mythology is great; I loved reading Greek mythology as a kid and so it's got some sweet nostalgia for me. Once you learn the moves fighting it isn't very hard, but I only have it on normal difficulty. Most of the difficulty comes from the platforming in the Tartaros sections (I hated the Athena's dash one. Ugh.) It's not very hard to spot places of interest with god vision, most places will twinkle or sparkle if you're high enough (morning is a good time to spot ambrosia). I wish you could mark the crystals though. You just have to keep an eye out for those as they won't make the controller vibrate. So if you have a ps5 both versions play and look the same, but the system does NOT consider them to be the same game, even installing and playing only on one system. Even though they say it's a free upgrade to the ps5 version, it isn't really. I don't know if that's just an ubisoft thing or a ps5 thing. This is the only game I have started with the ps4 disc version and tried to go to the ps5 disc version. Maybe it has something to do with the drm on the disc itself, I don't know. I couldn't find any answers online, apparently I am the first person to have this problem. (or I'm not using the right keywords to search)

Quite possibly my favorite game of 2020
When I initially purchased my Series X at launch I was looking for something to play that was optimized for the Series X/S and I ended up going with the new CoD. Don't get me wrong CoD on the X is a visual powerhouse, but it really didn't keep me interested very long, so I traded it in for Cyberpunk 2077 because they didn't have Immortals Fenyx Rising in stock. That night I looked on Amazon and saw that they had it in stock, as well as on sale so I bought the standard edition. I've never been a huge fan of Assassins Creed (though I've heard that the newer games are better) and I know that Immortals was developed by the studio responsible for the highly praised AC Odyssey, but with the visual style of Nintendo's, Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Let me just say that if you've been even slightly interested in this game, do yourself a favor and get this game immediately, you won't regret it. The visuals, while cartoonish have a very detailed Disney quality to the characters and animation. The controls are very easy to get used to, and if you don't like the setup you can map your own buttons. The story is pretty straightforward, but the narration by Prometheus and Zeus keep the story, and events humorous as well as interesting by throwing in different stories about Greek mythology. There are plenty of things like Vaults of Tartaros, and side quests to keep you occupied, and the puzzles can sometimes seem difficult, it's usually because I'm over thinking. I'm playing on Normal difficulty and it seems pretty balanced as far as enemies go, and more seasoned gamers might want to up the difficulty. I've put nearly 40 hours into this game so far and I'm a little over a quarter of the way through the story, though to be honest I'm taking my time and I'm trying to complete everything because I'm having a great time playing. Easily one the best games I've played in a while, and I'll definitely be purchasing the season pass

It's All Greek to Me!
Considering this was the first game I ever purchased for PS5, "Immortals Fenyx Rising" was a delightful surprise that I ended up being unable to put down until I fully completed it. Take one part "Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild", add in some of the deeply-rooted appreciation for Greek mythology of the "God of War" series, and mix with the tongue-in-cheek humor of something like "Ratchet & Clank" and what you get is a shockingly engaging, absurdly funny adventure that goes out of its way to make sure you don't take it seriously. For as cheap as the game typically runs these days, I cant recommend it enough. Truly an underrated gem that shouldn't be missed!

Great game after disabling network connection
First, the reason I decked a star - the game will force you to create a Ubisoft account every time you start it unless you disable the network connection on the console. There is no option to skip, opt out or select an offline mode. At this point, your choices are to force the game to close or proceed to account creation. This is clearly a ploy to get you to use the built-in microtransaction store. Strike two. I was furious, almost uninstalled the game and was about to put it on EBay without even playing it, but then I decided to try disabling the WiFi. This removed the mandatory account creation prompt and let me play. Once in, I was hooked - the world is beautiful with graphics that were clearly inspired by Zelda Breath of the Wild, and so is the gameplay. It's an open world game that let's you climb up on almost anything and glide through the sky, or ride on different collectible mounts, which is a ton of fun. There's also a fast travel system for places you've visited. You progress through the game by collecting upgrades, clearing puzzles, finding and opening chests and killing monsters, including unique bosses inspired by Greek mythology. It looks like a huge game. At 20 hours in, I'm only in the first region after the island where you start, and though this looks like the biggest region from the map, there are 4 more that are also quite sizeable. The story doesn't take itself seriously and is a parody of Greek mythology. There are no long-winded cutscenes or dialogues that break up the gameplay. Instead, you continue doing your thing with the narration popping up from time to time when you reach certain places or complete objectives, often providing comic relief, which is great. If you've played Zelda, the puzzles will be familiar, and can range from plain easy to harder to at times frustrating. I can already see the combat becoming repetitive, but fortunately, you can avoid many encounters, or kill things in different ways (use your godly powers, throw rocks and boulders, or just cut them down with a sword or axe). The combat is fluid, complete with a dodge and parry, and many skill and power upgrades. There's also a stealth mechanic, which doesn't work very well until you get an upgrade that gives you ironclad invisibility at the cost of stamina while sneaking. This fixes the mechanic, and adds some strategy to it, since your stamina will quickly run out if you go invisible too soon. You can also collect weapon and armor sets that provide different boosts, and freely apply the visual appearance of those you like to those with the boosts you want. Overall, I love the game so far and I'm having a lot of fun. It's a shame corporate greed has yet again creeped in, with the issues I described above, with content likely cut only to be offered as a preorder bonus for a season pass for 3 upcoming DLCs with a price tag of $40 (almost as much as I paid for the base game).

Fenyx Rising is one of the best, most fun games I've played in years.
Lots of hours into this game Fenyx Rising, and still enjoying it very much. It's one of the best action adventure games I've played in awhile, but my only criticism is the story is all over the place with the missions. There's no real story to it, just quests to accomplish for different characters. At least so far. Unlocked most of the map but still have a lot more to discover. The map is giant, but the ability to glide is so much fun like Raziel in Soul Reaver PS1 PS2. I have to say the volcano pit puzzles set in outer space are challenging but really fun to solve and survive so far. Some very clever puzzles. What's great is it has me wondering but all the elements I need to solve it are right there in the area or nearby. If there's a puzzle that requires a special ability, the game tells you that too, and to return later. Fenyx Rising: Graphics: 8/10. In 4K 60 fps, really nice. Good scenery. Enemy variety and AI: 7/10. Could use more variations but still good. Puzzles: 10/10 These are fun, optional challenging puzzles most times. Game Options: 10/10. Tons of stuff you can adjust and change. Great!! Boss Fights: 8/10. Some challenging, but fun big boss fights. Weapon Combat: 9/10. Very fun combat and abilities with the axe, sword and bow and arrow. Lots of fun and powerful attacks for Fenyx. Character Customization: 7/10. You can change your new gear anytime you want, and even change your character's appearance at the main HQ. Open World: 9/10 Compact but giant landscape with nice variety and visuals. There's a perfect tempo to the day night cycle, a time of day adjust, and nice interaction from walking, swimming, going underwater, gliding, jumping, etc. Controls: 10/10. Everything I input the game does buttery smooth. RPG Elements: 9/10 Fun upgrades, armor, abilities and more to upgrade. Fun Factor: 10/10. This game is a joy to play. Originality: 6/10. It uses lots of other game ideas but it becomes a unique, fun experience in itself. Story: 6/10. Lots of Mythical history of the Greek gods but the story is all over the place so far as you go on quests to help other gods. Overall: 9/10. One of the best, most fun games I've played in years. I recommend Fenyx Rising for any fan of fun adventure games.

Great game for hours of fun
I purchased this title because it looked like it could be fun and engaging. It has far surpassed my expectations in game play and entertainment value. I don't play online games because I only have at most an hour here and there to enjoy some down time. I've been playing this game for several days now and it's still going strong. I purchased the Xbox One version.

Imperdible
Despite the bad reviews it may have received, for me it's a great, fun game that mixes Greek mythology with humor. If you haven't played it yet, I recommend it; you can easily spend 40 hours playing it and you won't even notice because of how much fun it is.

I HATE the vast majority of this game. H.A.T.E.
Yes, HATE is a strong word but that's exactly how I feel about this game. The only reason I gave this game 3-stars is because it's a highly polished product that some people are going to love. Not this guy though. So why do I HATE this game so much? It's because Immortals Fenyx Rising is one of the most frustrating, aggravating, infuriating, and annoying games I've EVER played-wrapped up in a candy-coated, kid-friendly exterior. Fenyx is EASILY the worst experience I've had on any console all year. Hands down. Bar none. And I've played a lot. First of all, the good. I would say the graphics are outstanding, but that only applies to the game world. The characters themselves are pretty rough if you ask me. I played as the male Fenyx (Should've chosen the female) and by the end of the game I hated his stupid ps2-looking face. World traversal is also good, Fenyx has a pretty handy run and you can also ride various mounts around the game. You can glide through the air as well. Overall, no complaints about the world itself or world traversal. This is where the positives end though. Everything else is pure frustration. Every. Single. Thing. In this game seems designed to frustrate the player. From having to manually move your analog stick around to search for the perfect pixel that reveals your obscure points of interest, to falling to your death about a hundred times an hour in every single vault you try to complete- this game smacks of frustrating game design. Do developers actually play their own games I wonder? There is so much about the way this game is designed that seems to want to lead to broken controllers. I love skill trees in games, but in this one, any progress you make in that department is slow and stingy. By the time I completed this game I had just a few of the god powers and little else and I did plenty of the annoying puzzles and vaults. And oh my god the Puzzles. Want to get something as simple as a chest of gems? Do a puzzle. Want a pittance of Charon coins to buy some upgrades? Do a puzzle. Want a stupid cosmetic helmet that looks as stupid as all the others in your inventory? Do a puzzle. Need a bathroom break? Do a puzzle. Need to breathe? Do a puzzle. Every single attempt at progression in blocked by puzzle after puzzle after puzzle. I couldn't help but think about the movie "Inception" while playing this game because their are puzzles within puzzles that open other puzzles all wrapped into one big overall mega puzzle which is blocking still another annoying puzzle. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not against puzzles in these type of games, it's just with this one, that's all there is. Sure there's the occasional combat (which lets face it, is pretty spammy and not really very finessed) and some platforming but this is a puzzle game. It's not an action game at all and that's how it was marketed. It's a puzzle game. Endless, tedious, obtuse, frustrating, annoying, progress-blocking PUZZLES. I wanted to like this game. I truly did. I've been following it since it was first announced as "Gods And Monsters". I preordered my copy and waited eagerly to play it. Some people are going to love this game, and the reviews have been mostly glowing, but for me constantly falling to my death for the four millionth time because of sloppy controls, succumbing to ridiculous progress set backs because of minuscule mistakes, Constantly having drawn out puzzle solving completely halt any attempt at progress and listening to my annoying character's super annoying voice does not make for a very fun experience. (Seriously, the male voice in this game is annoying as all get out and doesn't fit the character model even a little bit.) For a bit of reference I completed Assassins Creed Valhalla, Pikmin 3 Deluxe, Ghost of Tshushima, Doom Eternal, Resident Evil 3 Remake, Spiderman Miles Morales and several others this year and this is the only game from 2020 that made me want to break things for almost the entire duration of my playthrough. That trek up the mountain toward the end was the most infuriating thing I have done in a video game for as long as I can remember. The souls games are less frustrating. Do you hate the Water Temple in The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of time? This ENTIRE game is the Water temple. HATE. THIS. GAME. Rant out.
