Review: Epic! Must have! - I would give this more stars if I could. I am a cake decorator, and have been chided in the past that my cakes look very "Albertsons". Yes, that was meant by my manager to be an insult... /sigh. I'm left-handed and had a hard time learning flower techniques from my co-workers, who are right-handed - couldn't mentally mirror-image the way they move their wrists or the angle of the tip, that sort of thing. This book was a break-through for me. Because the images are shown almost-upside down, with each petal laid out so you can clearly see the shape you're going for, I had no trouble following this guide. I have had no condescending comments from co-workers, and no negative comments from the bakery manager! I bring it with me every night - I am lucky enough to work graveyard, so I have the space on our cake bench to actually set out the book and all my bags and learn the flower without worrying about judgmental looks or snide comments from the more senior decorators. Tip for other lefties: In the book they call for a few right-handed PME tips - 57R and 58R. You can find the left-handed versions, 57L and 58L right here on desertcart!

As advertised
This is a really nice illustrated book for piping buttercream flowers from well known artisans. On the Kindle version, each piping step gets its own page, and maybe combining multiple steps on one page as a series would have made it more movie-like. Piping leaves, however, gets only the finished look and not step by step. The 1st few chapters are also very nice and gives LOTS of pointers and tips for creating buttercream frosting, specific ingredients to use, where to get supplies (US & UK suppliers at back of book), how-to and proper techniques. It's quite detailed, which is nice. Oftentimes authors don't provide enough specifics, assuming everyone "knows" what the author is talking about. However, this book has ZERO cake decorating designs or ideas. This is strictly about techniques for piping flowers and leaves.

Detailed instructions but low-resolution photos
Pros: The book provides detailed step-by-step instructions including which decorating tip and what colors were used. I have been decorating cakes for decades but wanted to expand my repertoire of flowers. There was one flower I couldn't master before reading this book. I discovered I was starting from the center when I should have been starting with the outermost petals. So, even experienced decorators can learn from and be inspired by this book. I also appreciate that the book is organized by color. Cons: The photos are not high resolution, and the paper is not glossy. So, while you can clearly see the steps and the final flower, the photos are not aesthetically pleasing. As one reviewer commented, in several photos the buttercream looks "greasy" and unappealing. Overall I would recommend this book.

Excellent Flower Cake Decorating with step-by-step instructions and detailed pictures
An excellent cake decorating book that features 100 flowers made with buttercream. I was enamored by its cover and the title - little did I know that the authors are former Filipino RNs who started a small business teaching cake decorating and specialize on making flowers using buttercream, and they have another book that features other showpieces that feature avant garde and modern inspiration and ideas decorating cakes for special occassions. If you are interested on piping flowers for decorating cakes, cupcakes - then this is the book for you. These are great with step-by-step approach and the authors recommend what type of pastry tips to use when making each flower with colorful pictures. At the end, they also provide a handful resources for the UK and the North American market. Now, they are enterpreneurs and instructors teaching on big events on Cake Decorating in the UK.
