Finally a knife sharpener that I'm happy with
Previously, I'd tried numerous sharpeners from small handheld "pull-through" styles to pocket sharpeners. Most of them were successful to an extent but it wasn't until I had a small pocket knife that would not sharpen, no matter what I tried and I also went on to blunt a relatively sharp chef's knife with a honing steel that I decided to do some proper research. After watching a few YouTube videos I decided that a proper whetstone was the way to go. I also learnt that honing steels don't sharpen knives. Not wanting to over spend on something I had no idea would work I opted for the Kunqun 1000-6000. On receiving the item I was pleasantly surprised by the included accessories for the relatively low price including a nice holder made of what appears to me bamboo. Similar to the style of household decorations which usually sell for the same price as this whole sharpening kit. So I'm happy with that. My first attempt successfully sharpened the knife which was previously unsharpenible albeit with an uneven bevel (my fault) and my second attempt with another knife was also successful (judging by my sliced skin on my fingers I used when testing an edge's sharpeness.) Both only took about 20-30 minutes. I have a strange aversion for having knives which are too sharp (weird purchase given that fact) but probably more down to something someone told me many years ago about sharp knives holding their edge for less time. I've no doubt if I sat down, and practised more, this stone would easily sharpen all my knives to a razor's edge. For the price this is great value for money. Do yourself a favour and invest in a proper whetstone instead of the (more expensive) kitchen gadgets you usually see advertised. There's also the added benefit that I find sharpening knives using a stone to be somewhat satisfying and therapeutic.

Quality product!
I purchased this whetstone to sharpen some cheap chisels that wouldn’t cut through through basswood (they were really cheap...) and I am extremely pleased with the result. The product was delivered promptly, and was well packaged in a sleek black box. It comes with simple instructions on how to sharpen blades and maintain the stone. It’s simple stuff, but it saved a novice like me the effort of having to google it. The stone made short work of bringing my cheapo chisels to a fine edge. Pleased with the result I then tested it on some old kitchen knives, which are now razor sharp. Very happy! I have never used a whetstone before, but as a complete beginner I found the product easy to use and highly effective, and would recommend this product to anyone in the market. It is a very handy piece of equipment, and as it’s cheaper than a set of kitchen knives, it’s definitely worth the money!

Nice stone, not properly rated at all.
This is a good stone to keep your knives sharp, but if you want to sharpen a dull blade then it's a no go. 400 should be course enough to put a new edge on a blade and even correct chips. This is not the case with this stone, it is super fine, so if you're looking to sharpen a dull knife grab another stone unless you want to spend ages at it. If you've never had a whetstone in your house I'd advise going for another grading, I went for the 3000/8000 by KUNQU and it was good at putting new edges on all my knives. I now use this stone as a top up for knives that are already sharp. For keeping a knife sharp that is already sharp this is a decent stone and affordable. The clip on guard is useful to start off with but once I got the technique down I found it much better just going free hand.

Great Sharpener, Awful Instructions!
I've never used a whetstone before so I opened the instrutions to find out how to use one. I rapidly threw them away and looked on YouTube. The instructions are terrible, ignore them. The stone I purchased was the 400/1000 version and it's perfectly fine for those of us who aren't chefs with special knives. I sharpened all my kitchen knives and five very blunt pairs of scissors successfully and it took me under an hour. The stone arrives with a protector on it which needs to be taken off and then then the stone soaked in water for 5 minutes before use. I also wet it again a few times inbetween sharpening things. The guide is the small piece of straight plastic that comes in the set and I found it reallly helpful. Be careful how you put it on and take it off though if you don't want marks on your knives! You can't use the guide for scissors but just make sure the bevelled edge of each blade is in complete contact with the stone and then sharpen away (only one side of each blade needs sharpening on scissors not both). You can either use up and down motions along the stone or circular movements to sharpen any blades. I found circular more helpful as this enabled me to shapren the whole blade at once, regardless of the size. My knives are now sharp enough to cut paper and my previously blunt scissors now cut through paper and thick card with ease. Very happy with the purchase for the price and would highly recommend.

A fabulous stone for the money
I've tried oil stones before and found them to be both difficult and somewhat ineffective. As a beginner that might be my fault but I've found this stone to be incredibly easy to use. It creates a razor sharp edge with little effort, especially when used in conjunction with a blade guide. The rubber base that's included with this stone also works perfectly, holding the stone securely in place. I can't comment on durability as I've only had it for a week but it seems as if it will hold up well, hence the 4 stars. Highly recommended
