Works Perfectly
I've had this mat for a little while now, and gone through some various baking jobs on it. This mat is intended to make clean-up easier, give you a guide when rolling out pastry, and cut down on the amount of flour wasted during working of dough. Have some sense, and do NOT USE something this thin and lightweight to do any cutting on. Why that would be in the product description on this page is beyond me. I've noticed that sometimes product descriptions on Amazon are mixed up between products, but that's another story. Now I have to say something about the creases. Guess what. If you wash the thing in HOT soapy water, then rinse it in HOT water after, then hang it to dry, NO MORE CREASES! Took me all of 3 min to get the creases out, and I wasn't even trying. Here is why I love this mat so much. First of all, I can thoroughly wash, rinse, then hang to dry giving me a CLEAN work area for baking. The "non-stick" surface is really a minimal stick surface. Before when kneading bread or rolling out a pie crust, I would have to use upwards of almost 1/4 flour, and much of that was wasted on the counter. With this mat, I only have to do a light sprinkle, using a LOT less four than working pastries previously. I've rolled butter pastries, lard crust, and various types of breads using different types of flours, and it works every time. I've also noticed that my breads and pastries come out with a little moister texture, because I don't have to use as much flour. Pie crust, whether it is lard or butter crust, are really what this thing is made for. If you're making a 9" pie, roll out your bottom layer, then place the pie pan upside down over the dough, then flip the whole thing over. Gently press the bottom layer into the pan by using the mat, and BAM! Perfect bottom layer with no cracks, tears, or finger dents. When doing the top shell, this thing makes is SOOOOO easy. I have even laid out a basket weave on the mat before placing it on the pie. Just lift the entire mat, place the edge of the crust on the pan, then roll it over the top of your pie. See, easy as pie. So if you want that little extra hand in the kitchen, and wish to keep things a little cleaner, this is definitely the product for you. If you're looking for a mat which is a do everything mat where you can use it as a cutting board prep station as well as a pastry mat, look elsewhere. This mat is great for doing pastries and breads on. It is not for cutting veggies.

Wonderful Pastry/Dough Tool
Norpro Silicone Pastry Mat- YOU HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF THIS MAT CAN NOT BE ROUGH WITH IT Non-Slip- (MY TIP : For a greater non-slip solution, wipe with damp cloth the surface that will be use to lay mat on it grips very well.) Good for measuring your dough. It won't retain odors. Use less flour for doughs. (sprinkle a very little flour coating on mat before putting Christmas cookies dough on it, it won't stick) It cleans up easily.(soap & water) I wipe with clean damp cloth after use & lay it over the dish drain to completely dry. It folds or rolls for easy storage. It's large enough to use. Good for ROLLING OUT : PIZZA DOUGH, BREAD DOUGH, PIE DOUGH & COOKIE DOUGH. I did not purchase this from amazon but i will because I mistakenly used a dough cutter to cut my dough and it went through cutting a one inch slit in the mat but it is still useable. (DO NOT USE KNIVES OR ANY SHARP OBJECT WHEN USING THIS MAT) I have used a silicone spatular (same texture as mat) to cut dough without cutting dough all the way through, & then pulled the rest apart. Color or dye from the writings on mat does not come off at least that has not happen to me. I have had this mat for a few years now. It is still in good working condition. No problems for me. CON: I WSH IT WAS BIGGER AND THICKER AND STURDIER. PROS: WORKS WHEN TOOKEN CARE OF AND USED PROPERLY

LOVE this mat! Works GREAT!!!
LOVE this pastry mat! It's large, rolls out easily, and folds just as easily for compact storage in a drawer! The markings on the mat simply make me smile, it's fun to drop the dough into the "center" and then roll it out to the circle representing the diameter of my choice. It seems sturdy and I suspect it's going to last for quite a while. An aspect of this pastry mat that I like is, when lightly dusting the surface before putting the dough on it, the flour spreads more evenly and stays evenly distributed, therefore working better than the pastry marble I used to use. The mat is also far more portable and easier to store than the pastry marble. Plus the marble, in order to work best, needs to be chilled first; this mat probably because its silicone doesn't need to be chilled first. TIP: after cleaning it, I hang it up on a chip-clip on a hook over my sink to dry before folding it for drawer storage.

Good mat, could use more markings
I bought this as a replacement to for a non-silicone pastry mat that ripped after 2 uses. It also had some weird PVC-like smell, which made us a bit nervous. The silicone is quite nice and it folds up and stores much more easily than the previous mat. While it is comforting to know that I could throw the mat right in the oven (up to 450F), we don't own a baking sheet that is big enough to put it on. If you are a serious baker or happen to have a large baking sheet, the oven friendliness will be of much more value to you. The only complaint I have (and the reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars) is that the markings are not as numerous as on our previous mat. It would have been nice to see some cm markings (or at least some simple conversion printed on the mat). Our old mat also had the diameters marked for "9 inch pie" which was handy because you don't really want a 9" diameter crust when you are making a 9" pie. Nevertheless, this the fact that it is silicone and much easier to store makes it a winner in my book. The price was also right so you can't go wrong here.

Helpful mat
I originally purchased this as a Christmas present for my son (who has a newly-discovered talent for baking!), but I liked it so much I purchased one for myself as well. I find this pastry mat very useful - I used to roll dough out directly on my countertops, meaning flour went everywhere and it was a huge mess to clean. I also had to guess on dough size when rolling. Now that I've got this mat, those days are over. We used one of the mats heavily over the holidays and it did not slip. We also didn't have any sticking issues, and there weren't any creases in either of the mats. I didn't notice any transfer of the ink either, but I will keep an eye on that as time goes by. Note that this mat is strictly for pastry making activities - do not use it as a cutting mat, as it will be damaged or even ruined. It's just not made for that. It works well for its intended purpose, though. The measurements on the mat were very helpful and while I did use a tiny bit of flour, I had no sticking at all. Best of all, I could fold it all up when done and avoid the huge counter top messes of the past. I dumped any left-overs on the mat into the trash and then headed for the sink where I washed it. I hung it on an existing rack to dry. I really like this product and my son is quite a fan too. I will buy this again if the need arises.

None of the Problems
Edit, 2025. I've had this mat for nearly fifteen years. It's still good as new. I've had none of the problems discussed in many of the reviews. I've had my mat for two months at this writing and have used it for a variety of baking jobs. Two or three times a week. No blue ink wear or transfer. I have surprised myself that I've found the printed guides usable and useful. No creases that persist. (The packaging crease took a few days to hang out on a towel bar, but its totally gone now.) No sticking. I flour, oil, or spray the mat as needed, like I would any kneading or forming surface. I especially like this mat for folding sorts of tasks because I can just lift the mat and flip the crust or dough into quarters, rolls or what have you. No cuts. OK, I take the other reviewers hints and avoid using knives with this mat. I do wonder if there is any pastry mat that can take a sharp knife. Canvas certainly can't, nor can the polycarbonate plastic of some competing mats. No slips or sliding on the counter. (Formica counter which is leaned right before smoothing out the mat.) No particular cleaning problems. I loosely drape it into quarters and toss it into soapy water. After working it clean, I rinse thoroughly and drape over a towel bar to dry. I don't know whether I've an angel sitting on my shoulder or whether Norpro has made some fixes on the printing process. Whichever—I'm quite happy after two months of use.

Served me fine until it ripped
I read the reviews for this product before purchasing it. I avoided using it in the oven and hand-cleaned it. I only used this to roll out pastries and I did this weekly or bi-weekly for almost a year. The mat didn't stick very well to my wooden kitchen table. I had to hold it down while cupping buns. But it worked for the most part- until I found it ripped. I'm not sure if it got damaged while cleaning dishes, but I just chucked it. I found it better than a pastry cloth, because I could roll out dough with oil if I thought my dough was too dry. I liked the size and found it easy to fold and store (though the creases never really released), but I'm gonna try a different brand.

Love this Mat ! it is perfect for rolling fondant....
I have to admit I was a little wary of this product as it has received mixed reviews. However, I'm happy to report that I have had none of the issues that others have been plagued with. In fact, it is A LOT tougher than it appears to be. I would NOT recommend you do this but I have used the sharp side of a paring knife to cut out fondant pieces and it didn't rip the mat. I love how it "sticks" to my granite counter top so it doesn't slip. It is very easy to clean and when I store it, I carefully fold it into a rectangular. The markings on the mat are also very helpful especially when rolling out fondant for different sizes of cake. I love this mat !
