Perfect for small metalworking projects and jewelry making. The weight is just right for stability, and the surface is smooth and well-finished. It absorbs hammer blows effectively without bouncing. A great tool for beginners and experienced craftsmen alike. Highly recommended for its durability and value!

Better then expected for the price .

I use this anvil for very light duty and soft metal shaping, peening, and fabrication jobs. I haven't had any severe issues, and it definitely does the job while taking up little space in the shop. My only issue that loses 1 to 1.5 stars on this anvil is the heavy tool marks (broad flywheel cut type gouges) on the face of the anvil that I received. I have seen this poor type of work on other larger anvils for sale, but there really is no excuse. The shape of the hardy hole (which I don't use) was also not parallel to the heel and maybe 5-10 degrees askew. You can clean up the surface with a mill file and a bastard cut file and 30-45 minutes of your time, but it's disheartening that this type of obvious finished work quality would leave a factory without scrutiny.

Used this besides a camp fire a few times. Forged a knife and a spoon. Some other junk as well. Very sturdy!

Great tool

It took me a while to come up with reasons to rate this, mostly because my need for one is pretty rare. But I finally used it and have mixed feelings. For those who say it's great as long as you put a more hardened steel plate on it, that's not great. It means it failed to live up to your needs. In my case, it's living up to my modest needs, but it's taking a beating. The fact is, this is definitely not hardened, so using any hard metal on it WILL damage the surface. I used it as a mass off-set for leather punching, and had to use a wood block on top because I kept denting the steel on the top. Hit it with a hammer and it will dent. It can't be used for forging anything and really only works for shaping light metals (or as a mass point) with a soft hammer (assuming damaging it is something you want to avoid). It's simply cast iron with a machined top, and anything harder will dent it. I gave it three stars instead of two because it meets (but doesn't in any way exceed) all of my needs. If your needs are modest, it may serve you well. If not, it makes a great door-stop. Otherwise, I'd avoid it if I were you.

Really there isn't much that should go wrong with it (hopefully). As longs it gets delivered and doesn't break the 1st time using it should be ok. So, seems fine so far

This has been very useful for me. As I work with small pieces (jewellery) at the moment, this is great. Flat surface for banging and horn for shaping. Make sure this is the size you want and enjoy using it.
