Mastering APA Style: Student's Workbook and Training Guide

I have a Masters Degree in Psychology and am currently a Doctoral Candidate in Special Education, so the fact that all my papers are required to be in APA format is not a problem to me. I was required, however, to purchase this book for my next course, and I must say that it is a perfect adjunct to the APA Manual. Every so often, I will forget a piece of necessary information that might seem insignificant, but is of importance. In this book, I can easily look up the particular item that I've forgotten/blanked on momentarily, or on which I just want to refresh my understanding, and find what I want in the Table of Contents. There is, unfortunately, no index so one must find the topic in the Contents section. I am not too thrilled about that but for the fact that the Contents section is fairly detailed. What I really like about this book, however, is that it gives examples of correct and incorrect usages, and the information that is being corrected is highlighted in gray. The book gives two sets of examples on one sentence, or form; one is called the draft version which is always the incorrect form, and the other is called the feedback version which is the corrected form. This goes into everything from correct comma usage to not showing bias in writing, so there are many important subjects that are covered. There are also tests which give not only the answer key, but also the exact APA code that governs the correct answer. This is especially helpful. The only thing I find confusing is a personal matter, and that is that I teach high school students who have learning disabilities and I teach them MLA formatting. The two styles do differ, and I tend, on occasion, to make the error of using MLA when I need to use APA in my own reports. Nothing huge such as formatting the References section wrong, but the occasional difference of whether to use Italics or quotation marks--well I guess that could be a big error. This workbook will, I believe, cement the APA format firmly into my mind. I definitely recommend this book for anyone who must employ proper APA styling. BTW, I bought the spiral bound version, a bit worried about the quality of the paper and whether it would easily tear, but my fears are unfounded. The paper is of good enough quality that I don't believe this will be a problem. I do wish it came in a hard cover version, always my first choice in a book to which I may be referring in the future.

Easy to use

This APA manual workbook was definitely helpful. It is a great supplement to the actual APA manual. If you are buying the regular apa manual I would highly recommend the workbook too because it is a great way to learn all the material you need to know for constructing your own apa style paper. It was not required for my psyc writing course but it was recommended to me by another professor. The book comes in a soft plastic cover which is pretty decent compared to other soft cover books. The price was better than my school bookstore which was a major plus for me. This book definitely helped me earn an A. Hopefully you guys find this info helpful.

When first starting to learn to write APA style this is a useful tool. It introduces APA elements and demonstrates how they are applicable. I have had the book awhile, and it is advertised in the back of the APA style blue book. I wish I had ordered this when I first started graduate school. Would have saved me some pain.

Bought this for my wife since she returned back to college to obtain another degree. This was the book she had to get. It was much cheaper on amazon than buying from the college (no brainer) however she gave it 3 stars it doesn’t explain everything she needs to know to write in APA.

This is a great book to test yourself on APA guidelines. It has two practice tests for each section and plenty of examples for you to learn from. The format is set up nicely so you can compare and contrast your answers to the correct ones quickly and sufficiently.

I had just started to an online college that requires APA Style, and I had never written anything in APA before. Even with all of the online help, I prefer the written book. It has helped me to understand APA very well. It goes along with the APA manual, and I could not live without it. I would suggest anyone who has to write papers in the APA style to purchase the manual and the workbook. They are an invaluable tool for college.

I thought this would be greater depth for APA citation, and confusion over color for instructor manual vs students, I did not find the product what I expected. OK if you do not already have the blue 6th Ed.

I bought this book because the university said I needed it to learn APA (not me specifically, but students in general). It is the worst workbook, study guide I have ever had, ever!!! The layout is horrible, examples are nonexistant, explinations poor, navigation pathetic. I do not recommend this for anyone. If I could give it lower than 1 star I would. Not only that, who has time to do an entire workbook of questions, try to find the answers, and study and work at the same time, not me.

Ce livre est énormément fourni d'informations théorico-pratiques sur le travail d'écriture en psychologie : rédaction d'articles scientifiques, de thèse, de mémoire ... Il est d'une aide précieuse dans le cadre de ce travail délicat mais surtout afin de pouvoir suivre les normes APA, toujours très compliquées et fastidieuses à mettre en pratique. Il est en anglais (c'est important de la savoir pour ceux qui n'en sont pas friand...!) mais se lit finalement assez bien, avec des termes simples.

The delviery was as promissed and the book is of great use. I will use this process in the future.Al
