Which diode do I need to operarte a utilitech model 0568973 doorbell?

I don't know the make or model of my door chimes (purchased from Home Depot some while back), but I used the Fairchild 1N4001 to successfully repair the bell push. Since it's a diode, it has to be connected in the right direction, so if it doesn't work at first, try reversing it.

The 1N4001 is a diode. It’s the cylinder with lead wires.

does this work with ring

The ring on the semiconductor just indicates polarity.

Does this work for standard electric doorbells?

It certainly worked for mine. Note that it's directional (it's a diode), so if it doesn't work in one direction, try reversing it.
