Do you know what the hardest thing for a German learner is? Finding PROPER reading material that they can handle…which is precisely the reason we’ve written this book! Teachers love giving out tough, expert-level literature to their students, books that present many new problems to the reader and force them to search for words in a dictionary every five minutes — it’s not entertaining, useful or motivating for the student at all, and many soon give up on learning at all! In this book we have compiled 20 easy-to-read, compelling and fun stories that will allow you to expand your vocabulary and give you the tools to improve your grasp of the wonderful German tongue. How German Short Stories for Beginners works: Each story is interesting and entertaining with realistic dialogues and day-to-day situations. The summaries follow a synopsis in German and in English of what you just read, both to review the lesson and for you to see if you understood what the tale was about. At the end of those summaries, you’ll be provided with a list of the most relevant vocabulary involved in the lesson, as well as slang and sayings that you may not have understood at first glance! Finally, you’ll be provided with a set of tricky questions in German, providing you with the chance to prove that you learned something in the story. Don’t worry if you don’t know the answer to any — we will provide them immediately after, but no cheating! We want you to feel comfortable while learning the tongue; after all, no language should be a barrier for you to travel around the world and expand your social circles! So look no further! Pick up your copy of German Short Stories for Beginners and start learning German right now! This book has been written by a native German author and is recommended for A2+ level learners. Review: Useful learning tool for B1 level German students - A good source of practice for learning German. Aimed at B level learner - a bit challenging if you are not at that level yet. Stories easy to follow (if you are B1 level) with useful vocabulary Review: Instructive Fun - These stories are enjoyable to read and help with expanding vocabulary and sentence structure. If I were to find one fault it is that it's impossible to start a project such as this in mid-stream and have a vocabulary that everyone knows and present definitions for new words that are not known to anyone reading the story. I find a dictionary, "Wörterbuch", to be useful in reading the stories.

it's ok, but maybe shop harder
This is a nice idea. The stories do get a bit harder s you go through them. Some are cute some bit weird, like the one about the young woman who can't afford to fix up the house she inherited, so she squirts gasoline around, burns the place down, and walks away. What I find bothersome is that a good idea is handled sloppily. In each chapter the supposed new words are boldfaced, and the translations are at the end of the chapter, in the order theywere encountered in the story. The problem is, in many if not most chapters, some of the boldfaced words don't appear in the chapter glossary, or appear out of order. This is not fatal (you'll need a dictionary anyway) but can sometimes be frustrating and, to me, suggests that the book ws not well proofread -- which might mean that there are errors in the text that will confuse a learner. It would also have been a friendly idea to bring all of the glossaries together at the endm in alphabetical order. Where each chapter may have 50 or more new words, it can be difficult, when reading a story and encountering a word that maybe you saw before in an earlier chapter, to find the definition. These are little things, but the frustration makes using the book harder and less pleasant than it should be.

Super Important for Any German Learner
This book is a great supplement to any German language course and/or anyone learning on their own. Its layout is great: story, summary, translation, vocab. Super helpful material to let you see the language in a contextual way rather than a boring textbook with no context or explanation. Really helped me learn how to read the language and understand the sentence structure in a natural way that rivals what you learn in school

Awesome effort put together in an interesting learning tool
This is the perfect companion for someone venturing beyond the structured sentences that we see in regular Deutschkurse, it will keep you interested in the story and motivated by your own progress as the phrases and paragraphs start to feel more familiar in time. New vocabulary will have a section in the chapter, as well as a short summary that will also teach you how to extract the main ideas of each story. Five stars.

Es macht Spaß!
Die Geschichten sind manchmal verrückt, manchmal süß – aber immer spannend! Dank der vielen Fragen am Ende habe ich gelernt, ohne überhaupt zu merken, dass ich lerne. Mein Gehirn sagt: ✔️ Lernstoff. Mein Herz sagt: 💖 mehr Geschichten!

Too challenging for beginners?
There is a LOT in this book but I believe it not for beginners (which IS after all, part of the title). PROS Each story (chapter) has this format, which I like: a. The story (with certain words in bold) b. German summary c. English summary d. Vocabulary (translation of words shown in bold in story) e Questions about the story (5 questions with multiple choice answers) - good to check story understanding f. Answers (to the 5 questions about the story) The stories are highly creative and cover many topics such as household disagreements. pets, travel, online dating, unusual situations, etc. Many words are shown in bold within each story and they are shown in a Vocabulary List following the summaries. I love the 2 summaries. The first is in German which makes you struggle in a nice way, then the second summary is in English, which is very helpful when you can’t (like me) figure out all the German. Questions about each story are shown after the Vocabulary List and they are a nice touch for checking your understanding of the story. CONS Each story was supposed to cover a particular tool of German, but did not do so, as far as I could tell. There was no indication as to which story covered verbs, pronouns, nouns, etc. For a beginner, I believe most stories are too long with too many vocabulary words shown in bold (Chapter 20 has about 65 words in the Vocabulary List). ”Repetitio est mater studiorum” is a Latin phrase (something I remember from 4 years of Latin) which means “Repetition is the mother of learning” but, unfortunately, I find that there is NOT enough repetition in this book. New words are fine, but most bold words are just used a SINGLE time in the story, so you can’t figure out the meaning of most of them by their context. I’d prefer shorter stories with fewer vocabulary words used MANY times within the story. CONCLUSION While this book has a lot to offer a higher level German learner it is, in my opinion, NOT for beginners (otherwise, I would have rated it higher). I do not believe I am a German beginner, having done 4 Pimsleur German Courses, a Michel Thomas (much shorter) German Course, 3 years of DuoLingo and having gone through various grammar books, etc., and I speak several languages to a fair extent. OK, I like to read a story and enjoy it, but having too many (mostly new) words in bold within a single chapter is not fun for me, which is why I have only done a few chapters (out of 20) so far. However, some highly motivated (not me) beginners may may enjoy the challenges this book provides.

Very useful book
Nice book. I suppose this is not about great characters or interesting plots, but I had preferred nicer stories. Anyway, there are very useful exercises and helpful vocabulary. A nice piece for improving my german.

Buen libro para practicar
Tiene vocabulario nuevo en negritas y el significado está al final del capítulo pero no siempre está en orden e incluso unas palabras no están donde deberían

Good for A2 or B1
Recommended for those who read at A2 or B1 Level. The glossary is very helpful. The stories are each just a couple pages, easy enough to understand.
