Touch 'n Hold Smooth - Heavy Duty Door Closer System (Black)

I got these to replace the door closers on our storm doors that had taken on a life of their own. These are solid and work well. Installation was easy peasy. Best of all, the latch on the closer is on the top, rather than on the side like most closers, so you can't accidentally hit the latch. I'm 100% satisfied with these.

We have heavy glass storm doors at front and back of our home. They both had pneumatic closers with "slider" stops - where you have to push the door open with one hand, reach up with the other hand, and slide the metal stop along the rod until it touches the closer. My wife found them cumbersome, and I decided to replace the one on the back door when I saw that the metal holder (screwed into the door jamb), was bent and about to break. It took me about 10 mins to replace the failing holder with the new one that comes with this closer, then about 5 more minutes to get the closer installed and working. It's excellent. Open the door to 90 degrees, reach up and push up on the button, release the door, and it stays open at about 85 degrees. To close, just gently push the door to 90 degrees (you'll hear a click as the button releases), let go of the door, and it closes. So the only downside so far (as mentioned by others) is that it doesn't hold open at a full 90 degrees. However, my wife liked it so much that I immediately bought one for the front door. There, nothing was breaking, so it was a 30 second job to pull the two retaining pins, remove the existing closer, replace it with the new one, and re-install the pins. So, definite 5 stars so far. If either of them fails, I'll come back to edit this review, which is being posted in May 2025.

Fairly easy to install

I purchased one from a local hardware store for my front door. If anyone forgets to close the door completely my dog runs out but now the door closes every time. It is working so well that I purchased another one from Amazon an installed it on my kitchen door because the push button lock makes it much easier than bending over to move that little catch to keep the door open for my dog to go out into her pen and again to close it when she comes in. You just open the door a little more and the catch is released. A great upgrade from what I had.

I bought this instead of the replacement part for my VERY heavy Larson door. The one that came with the door never felt sound, and had a ratcheting mechanism that I believe should not have. That sound was the locking feature slipping, likely due to the weight of the door. It blew out all it's grease in less than 2 years. The Greenstar Touch and Hold was rated for heavy doors, so I bought it instead. Easy to swap out. I keep waiting for the door to slip when propped open, but it's not. It sounds and feels secure, none of that "ratchet until it catches" business. I'll be buying one of these for my other storm door, too. Only downside is color selection. No complaints from me on that, though.

Didn't last a year. First the cylinder disconnected but still functioned. I think because the touch/push button got stuck. Them shortly after my kid opened the door and the spring busted open. Will try a different one.

Easy installation. Exactly replaces old closer using the same hardware. Push-button lock open is a great feature, especially when all that is needed to release it is to push the door more open just a little bit.

I ordered this door closer to replace the original one that broke when I had new sofa delivered due to door being opened to far. This new one is exactly like the original one. I didn’t have to install the new hardware and it took me about 10 minutes to install it myself after watching YouTube videos about how to do it. Very sturdy and quiet. To keep the door open you just need to push the button on it.
