Superb straight out of the box!!!
Brilliant straight out of the box!!! I wanted a set of decent desktop speakers to work alongside my 2012 Mac Mini and iTunes; I consider myself to be a fickle audiophile. I've a Cyrus 8DAC and KEF LS50 system in my living room and a NAD D3020 & KEF R100 system upstairs but didn't want to faff with a separates system in my office! I did try the Q Acoustics BT3's but they were very bright from the word go and their bass is lacklustre! The Audioengine A5+'s are brilliant straight out of the box! Connected to my Mac Mini via optical and a FiiO D3 DAC they sing superbly with weighted bass, smooth but open/detailed midrange and a great top-end that's clear and precise but not bright in any way! If you're after a decent set of powered speakers for either your desktop system OR to go on stands; I can highly recommend these!

Amazing sound!
Just received these speakers today, and after a 10 minute setup i could experience the amazing sound these speakers make! The quality is just amazing, rich, deep base, and those clear highs... Have been listening to music for 2-3 hours straight (on Spotify) and i just can't stop now! Before i bought these i made a deep research about the A5+, and was wondering how every single review is positive. No more wondering! Everything's clear now after getting them. Although forget the sound TESTS on YouTUBE, those will never even get close to the actual quality of these amazing speakers! Definitely worth the money, you won't regret buying them! Have them connected to my PC via Optical Audio cable (Fisual) to a FiiO D3 (DAC) and an RCA cable (Fisual), and i'm using Auralex MoPADs as my the stands.

Great Speakers - no need for Subwoofer
There is probably little more I can say about the Audioengine A5+ speakers than hasn't been said in any other review - they are simply fantastic value for the quality and depth of sound you get. I bought these for a home cinema setup, avoiding buying a separate subwoofer at this point, and past the initial run in period they have proved to be worth every penny. The bass is loud and punchy; the treble is clear and sharp. I'm no audiophile but after weeks of using these I'm not disappointed that I chose these. Just be aware that the left channel housing the amp is quite heavy, so if you want to wall mount them you need a reasonably strong mount.

Dead on arrival
DOA. Faulty from factory - super disappointed at the lack of QC from Audioengine

Outstanding speakers for the practical audio enthusiast
I'm a very practical guy who is passionate about good sounding audio. My pragmatism is what drove me to choose a PC based digital library of music as it really was the easiest/most practical solution to enjoying my hobby. In that sense, I believe I am exactly the kind of guy these are marketed towards. I am by no means knowledgeable in speaker territory (these are the finest speakers I have owned yet) but I have listened to some good setups before and let me tell you that I was still extremely impressed by these. They may seem expensive for their supposed applications, especially considering the lo-fi approach to audio that has become widespread by today's standards, but if you take special pleasure in the details and your audio sounding good, then you will not be disappointed. Just for the record, I am connecting these to an Asus Xonar Essence One Muses edition DAC. They sound amazing out of the box and do not require a subwoofer in my opinion. My previous 2.1 logitech system provided the same amount of bass and they had a dedicated subwoofer! (less "clear" and "thumpy", though. More of a loose "wobble". These are a step up in every conceivable sense). I can only imagine the soul quaking, galaxy trembling bass that would be produced by this system if partnered with a subwoofer. It's possible to find a couple videos on youtube where you can see pieces of paper and fabric actually flapping to the air moved by the bass produced by the speakers. Midrange is JUST right. Probably the best part about them. There is actually a defined feeling of "soundstage" with these. I feel like I'm listening to someone playing on a stage and can place the instruments and musicians on different points of the stage. Not just left and right, but 2 or 3 steps in between them. In that sense, they sound like more than just 2 speakers. Treble is very nice and almost never overbearing or uncomfortable. Very contained (like the bass). As much as I love these I have to be honest and say I've noticed some awkward buzzing on a passage or two, but to be fair the speakers have not burned in yet AND I was listening to the Superman OST composed by John Williams which is known for having some outstandingly demanding passages like prolonged high notes from the horns section which are a great test for even high end audio systems. They don't get 5 stars for two reasons: - even though they are marketed as desktop speakers, they do require a considerable amount of space and a room big enough to accomodate not only the space they take up but the sound they will push out, so not for everyone in this sense. I was able to accomodate them, barely... they sound great in their current disposition but I will probably look at a better way to position them in the near future. - they require a set of speaker stands (namely the audioengine ones that were designed to be partnered with them) in order to truly live up to their potential. It's amazing how the angled speaker stands from audioengine, which I ordered at the same time but only arrived a few days later, changed their performance for the better. When the drivers are at eye/ear level, these babies really shine. The difference is palpable. Get these if: - you're practical. More interested in the solution than the journey to get there. - can fit them in your budget and don't care about the weird looks your friends and family will give you when they find out how much you spent (the simpletons cannot unterstand the simple pleasure of audio bliss :p ). - have a passion for good sounding stereo audio. - have a good source to partner them with (a respectable soundcard or DAC and the files themselves, be they movies or music - 320kbps are okay. FLAC files ideal in this sense). Do NOT get these if: - you are an audio purist/perfectionist looking for the best possible conditions. I've seen a couple of reviews from disgruntled buyers who failed to understand that these are mid to high end in the grand scheme of the audio market. Nothing else. - you take pride in setting up complicated listening conditions and troubleshooting them for maximum output and enjoyment (these are a straightforward solution for someone who values commodity more than an ideal set. Not so much the journey to get there, but the solution itself). - you intend to feed them with equipment below their price range and files like DVDrips of movies or 128kbps mp3s. They are not worth it for this kind of use. I am a VERY happy camper after buying and setting these up. :)

I consider them very good and I am very fussy about good sound quality
Had the A5's for 6 years used with my laptop. These A5+, I am using as my main hifi system speakers and not now using separate amplifier, I consider them very good and I am very fussy about good sound quality. May add a subwoofer soon.

Surprising sound quality
I was not at all surprised to see this speaker system favourably reviewed in the AVGuide. It really is a bit special.

Sound is such a subjective matter so please bear that in mind in reading my review. See if you think what I like and listen to might concur with your own personal tastes. Background. I own a high end stereo system probaly costing $30K that I never use. Also a Bose 5.1 surround sound system for the TV and DVD's. And for my 2nd computer a Klipsch THX 2.1 system. Also a Klipsch player for an iPod. Of couse they all have their unique sounds - well the expensive stereo system has no sound as of now as I felt the speakers (very, very large KEF's) were not sounding right and even after a sound engineer told me they were fine my ear said "No" because I knew how they could sound from a class A amp - so I've listened to no quality music system these last few years. I don't class the Bose system as suitable for serious music listening, but they do OK for movies. Oh, and my choice for headphones are 2 pairs of Sennheiser. So given that background lets get to the business. In my opinion, and for my taste, these Audioengine A5+ speakers + S8 woofer are remarkable. I would describe the sound a neutral (hard to find these days). That does not mean there is no bass but its only there when it should be and then its tight and does not sound like its being played through a pillow. This is the kind of sound that is not tiring and can be listened to for hours on end. When I first connected the Audioengine system up, by mistake, I did not connect the woofer. Even without it the A5+ speakers sound good, really good, but adding the woofer does make a difference for sure, and I think if you are after quality sound it is needed. Of course it can be added later as funds allow because just the A5+'s are good on their own. For a low priced system the Klipsch system replaced a pair of Bose (no woofer) on my 2nd computer and were noticable cleaner sounding with better bass because of their woofer, than the pair of Bose with no woofer. For a low priced system I could certainly live with the Klipsch. But my listening habbits have changed over 40 years and I now spend many hours a day working in front of a computer at home. That's the only time I get to listen to music - as well as in the car. I hadn't heard good sound for so long I decided to try the Audioengine system for the computer but was really blown away by how good it was. I didn't really trust the many good reviews I'd seen. The stereo image is so good with the A5+'s they create a very wide sound stage that seems to emanate slighting above and between the 2 speakers. I could hear singers taking a breath and new sounds on a violin that the bow made as it was pulled across the strings, that had not been there before. Bear in mind I am feeding only lossless MP3 files played out of iTunes - not vinyl tracks played on my Linn LP12 turntable. Are they perfect - no that's not possible for just over $700 (I am adding the DAC and stands now so will be into the system for close to $1,000) but in terms of the sound quality at this price they are quite remarkable. Beautifully packaged even the UPS driver who bounced the box down his truck steps could not hurt them as they sit a couple of inches inside their box surrounded by foam packaging. They are heavy and look like a quality product that the manufacturer has been proud to produce. Like all good speaker systems they sound better loud as you can feel the bass. It's tempting to set the woofer volume too high but playing the system loud then over cooks the bass and it looses something. The music is not balanced. I also had a little recording business in my youth so became very critical on how sound was mixed. What would be nice is a low volume setting on the remote that boosts the bass when playing at low volume. The woofer has a Phase control so the woofer cone can sync with the speaker cones to improve bass sound. Also a Crossover knob to set where in the frequency range the woofer comes in - just a matter of setting where you like it. And then a Volume control. Again I say don't be tempted to set this too high. I would set it where it sounds right then turn down just a hair. If you play at really high volume then it probably needs setting even lower. After 50 hours of burning in they can only improve. I wish I had gotten better with age! So yea I like em very much. One of my better buying choices.

La verdad es que son una maravilla. Las tengo en el living room y 10/10. Están conectadas con un ecualizador y el audio es mucho mejor…

These are the best speakers I have ever heard. The sound is incredible, they are beautifully built, very solid and amazing quality. Be warned there is no protection grill so if you have a pet that likes to scratch things you should avoid this. Also note that these speakers need 30-50 hours of play time to warm up so the sound quality wont be great at first but will get much better the more you use it! Everything you possibly need comes included (cables, travel bags, remote) and everything is of very high quality and overall these speakers sound AMAZING. 10/10 would recommend and if they are too expensive for you Audioengine also makes the A2+ which are smaller and cheaper and apparently just as good. Also I just want to add that these speakers have a built in amp so they will work with any turntable! I just plugged my turntable directly into the speakers and the quality is fantastic but it doesn't play very loud so you might want to buy a pre amp as well!

Riktigt bra högtalare för sin storlek. Låter bättre än föregångaren.

I did a lot of research into this class of speakers including the music studio powered monitors from KRK, Yamaha, etc. For me, the AudioEngine speakers best fit the bill. I just wanted a set for my listening room that I primarily use via blue tooth with my computer or phone as a source. The studio monitors are OK - but you have an integrated amp in each speaker - which means a power cord for each speaker and you would have to hook your wireless receiver into each speaker. Kind of getting away from the simplicity I was looking for. As countless others have reported - the A5+ sounds really great. Maybe someday when I grow up I can afford the AudioEngine Wireless setup (the W3?) and hear even more good stuff. But for my money - the A5+ sound incredible and were very easy to set up. I also bought the Philips BT reciever and that is how I get audio to these beauties. On the buying/delivery experience. I ordered them from Amazon on a Wednesday night. By Friday morning they were in my hand. Regular shipping. That was amazingly fast service! Great job!!
