Sturdy, works as promised.
Since I had been told by my PT that I should be working on the "bands" in my thighs (that's the informal name for those long side muscles) and rolling on a tennis ball didn't do the trick, I decided to buy this item. Boy, am I glad I did! It's so sturdy you don't feel like you're going to break it when rolling back and forth, and with the different built-in trigger points it's easy to choose your own fit.

One of four great rollers I own
This is one of four foam rollers I bought. I have the black Rumble Roller extra firm, NewCell Integrate Foam Roller, and Trigger Point Therapy both the orange and black x-tra firm. I don't own but have also tried the blue Rumble Roller at my fitness center. This review is a comparison of these various rollers. Each of my four rollers has its own purpose. The Rumble Rollers are really good for deep tissue at a single spot. The black extra firm Rumble Roller is really hard and aggressive, while the blue one is softer but because of how "pointy" the roller is, the blue Rumble Roller doesn't feel much softer when I'm actually using it. In comparison the Trigger Point Therapy is much better as an all purpose roller to roll out the fascia. The various parts of the grid do make a difference. With the Trigger Point Therapy rollers, the black extra firm has very little give while the orange one is noticeably soft....and that orange one is my least favorite and least used roller, but I bought it since it was an Amazon Lightning Deal and I read in a fitness magazine that deemed the softer rollers more effective because the muscles don't tense up as with the firmer rollers. This is definitely true since this orange TP Therapy roller is the only roller I can handle when my IT band and other parts of my legs get really tender. My final roller is the NewCell foam roller which is a cross between all the other three I have and is the best for rolling out my back due to its shape, but I can also use it to target certain spots though not as effective as the Rumble Rollers. These various rollers have all helped to address a lot of tension and tightness in my shoulders, back, hips, and legs. I started using them at my fitness center and as I realized how beneficial they were, I bought and added each one by one. Considering that I no longer need to pay a therapist to massage and how I can run with less pain, the money I spent seems well worth it. Most importantly, it wasn't until I began using these rollers regularly that I finally resolved my plantar fasciitis I had in both feet for several years. Just to be clear, if you want a firm roller with some give, the orange roller is a great roller. If you don't want a roller with noticeable give, buy the black xtra firm roller. If you want a really aggressive spot roller, get the Rumble Roller.

Huge Upgrade from a Traditional Foam Roller
I am a very active athlete and use foam rollers whenever I go to the gym and finally decided to get one for myself. Yeah, they're pretty expensive, but I can't complain because the quality of this foam roller has blown my mind. At first I was worried about the size of the Grid. It says 13 inches which sounds small because it's only an inch longer than a ruler. But don't worry about the size because it's perfect for a normal weight person to use everywhere - back, legs, even chest, and arms. The way The Grid works is really cool. The little square grid boxes are meant to act as finger tips, the longer columns as fingers, and the big flat squares as palms. So the point of this is to simulate a manual massage. I can't say whether it does just that, but I can tell you from experience it gets the job done better than a traditional foam roller. It just gets that good stimulated feeling faster. I feel really good after a foam rolling session with The Grid and would recommend it to anyone who has used foam rollers or would like to try. It DOES take some time to get used to if you're new to foam rolling, but be patient and learn how to massage yourself. It is a very powerful method of relaxation. P.S. For anyone interested, I have tried and would recommend other trigger point massage products such as Foot Rubz, Thera Cane, and the Stick. They all program on the same myofascial release idea and I can say they are all great.

Veresatile and Lightweight
I bought this roller to reduce pain in the soles of my feet by stimulating them. It doesn't completely eliminate the pain but does provide noticeable relief. I also use it occasionally on my calfs and thighs. I've taken it in a suitcase on trips, since it's very light, and I can pack clothing inside the hollow cylinder. The roller has several different patterns of ridges so that you can use the one that you like best, but I tend to favor the area with an array of very small bumps, as it seems to provide the most stimulation. I noticed when I first shopped for this roller that TriggerPoint makes a similar one with only those small bumps, and perhaps that would have been a better choice for me. On the other hand, if I had bought it, I may be wondering now how some of the other bump patterns would have felt. Overall, I think I made the right choice.

Good product, contemplate buying a little longer one for rolling the back.
I really like this product and it has helped me with back relief. Im 5' 7'' and 180 lbs. This works good for me but I would like it if it was a little longer. I should have got the next size up for using with my back. Product still works great. Its easy to use, durable and will last a lifetime, perfect size round and stiffness to help roll on for the back. Easy to store and easy to use. It really does give you instant relief from back soreness.

13" is awesome -- stores easily and that means I USE it!
I *actually* use this roller all the time!!! Size certainly matters for me -- I own a full-size foam roller, but I just don't ever use it since it's huge, bulky and not firm enough to massage with. But this 13" roller is really easy to use, is definitely firm enough to provide great massage, and the BEST part is it stores easily and is out of sight! We leave it as a doorstop or tuck it behind the arm of the couch when not in use, and it blends in or gets completely hidden -- no massive foam roller to take up room or look ugly! And since we leave it either in the bedroom or living room, it's always right there when we're watching TV or something. It's great for massaging your back or your IT band -- man, it *really* gets in there! I'm not sure what the "distro-density zones" or whatever actually do, but the point is that this foam roller has a hard plastic interior so you can actually get a good rolling massage with it. And it's so convenient to store that you might be like me and actually use it!

I Love The Grid!
I love this roller! I've been using it almost every day for a few weeks now and it has helped me massage all the muscles in my legs. If you're reading this then you're likely in the market for a roller. What you're looking for is not whether or not this roller rolls, but how it compares to other rollers on the market. Read on... The difference: possibly not a lot. The main comparison I will give is between this roller and "regular" foam roller I use at my gym. When rolling any muscle group on my legs I have to say I can't tell a huge difference between the two rollers. Zones: If you are putting a lot of weight on this roller, like the weight of your body and legs, I cannot tell a difference in the rolling no matter what "zone" I am using. I'm not saying you won't notice a difference, but just that I cannot. However, if I am doing one leg at a time and using my other leg to reduce the weight on the roller, I can tell some difference depending on the zone. Quality: The quality of The Grid roller looks and feels to me like a step above the other rollers at my gym. My wife and I have been using this at least once a day every day for the past 2-3 weeks, and the roller looks as if it is still brand new. The construction and quality of the inner tube and the outer foam is great! Length: If I were to make one suggestion that would be to consider the longer variation. I am not disappointed with this length, but in some scenarios it would be beneficial to having the longer roller. The only benefit I see to having this shorter one is space/storage. If you're concerned this roller is too short, as I was, know that it still gets the job done. I can get both legs on it just fine and roll away. My legs are on the smaller side, so If you have wider legs I would recommend going with the longer option.
