Kanold, Lee Stiff: Books Review: the best math text - These books are used by my school district, and I use them as a reference for teaching. What I like about them is they give clear examples and are fairly straightforward and user-friendly, unlike some math texts that are just a jumble of words to read. These have all the important concepts in bold, and in nice neat-looking little green-bordered boxes. And, of course, answers to odd problems in the back. If you are a teacher looking for a reference text or a parent who is home-schooling, I highly recommend this textbook series. ~ Misty teacher & tutor for over 12 years Review: Met my expectations. - Met my expectations.

Great, better than my school issued one
I ordered this book for one reason, to keep at home so i didn't have to lug the one that my school gave me back and forth every day. I figured, 10 dollars to make my school year easier... why not. I was not expecting much when i ordered this book, i thought it would be in pretty bad shape, but it was in great shape. this was a school issued book that is about ten years old (going by the issued to list on the inside cover). it was in better shape than the one my school gave me. i cannot compare this book to others, mainly because i have only ever used McDougal Littell books, and the fact that i learn from a teacher and only use this for homework. if you are going to use this for homework, then definitely get it because it cannot be in such bad shape that you cannot read a few problems. the answers in the back of the book cover almost all the odd questions (just like most math textbooks) in closing, get this book, it is great to have a copy at school and a copy at home.

Taking the weight off my kids back!
Back in the day when I attended school, I liked to buy an extra set of books to keep at home so I didn't have to haul the darned things back and forth from school. After lifting my kid's backpack stuffed with books, I decided it was time to implement my strategy once again. We decided to buy an extra set of text books, to eliminate that hassle and the need to haul all that weight around. Picked up this text, that was in excellent condition, for a very good price. Solved our problem, and I hope to sell it next year for about what I paid - either online or to kids taking the class next year.

Better than the rest but still not great
This math book is far better than the others, but that is mainly because the others I looked at were very bad. The typical math book today contains 1) lots of distracting pictures, 2) dozens of unnecessary fonts and colors, 3) lots of forced and contrived examples that have a politically correct focus and, 4) very little math instruction. This book has fewer distractions than the others (although it still has far too many). The actual instruction, that is, the explanation of the concepts, is often very brief and terse. Each section, however, has numerous example problems that are often very clear and helpful. The book is also well organized and the format is fairly readable. Not a great book, but much better than the others I looked at.

An excellent book!
I bought this book to my son for his 8-grad in middle school. He then took SAT Math II and got 800 score. Yes, he also read other books too and he got 800 scores for all other SATs. However, I reviewed this book too and felt it is an excellent book! If a kid fully understands 85% of the concepts and completes the 80%+ assigne homewok, he/she should be able to get higher score in SAT Math. I wish all American kids spend as more time as possible to read the math books and do the assigned homework as much as possible to get a great future. Again, to kids: do NOT waste too much time paying game and/or around at streets; study hard for you to get good future, for your family to get heppyness, for the country to become much stronger!!!
