I was having terrible problems with sprained ankles (since high school) and felt my ankles were getting worse and worse. I tried many ankle braces and they were either too uncomfortable or didn't help, usually the former. My brother-in-law works in the medical supply business and gave me a pair of these. I have not had an ankle sprain since, yes zero sprains! They are very comfortable though most people will need to add 1/2 - 1 to their shoe size to comfortably fit these in their shoes (at least with basketball). I still play basketball 3-5 times per week and in masters b-ball tournaments around the country. The braces typically last for 3-4 years before needing replacement, I usually wash them every 6-month or so and they are very good as far as odor control and durability. I just ordered a new pair and was tempted to try the new speed laces but didn't want to mess with a good thing. Proud to have turned my nephew who's in college on to theses. Know that won't be much help to you. **Q: Are you still able to drive and carry on normal daily activities with these braces?** A: I wear one on each ankle. I used to use McDavid leather braces that were more stress on my foot. These give me just as much support and I have no problems walking, driving, and riding my motorcycle. They cost less and hold up just as well as the older leather braces. **Q: How many inches high is it on the ankle? I’m looking for one that goes up higher than my current one for more support.** A: In my experience going higher did not add more support. I used an orthopedic boot after an ankle sprain. But when I switched to a shorter brace I found it more effective because I had control of how tight I made it with the wrap around velcro straps in addition to the laces.
