This tree appears to be a floating cloud, as the name suggests! Acer palmatum 'Ukigumo' is perhaps the most extreme of the variegated Japanese maples. WHEN UKIGUMO ARE YOUNG THEY LOOK LIKE AN ORDINARY GREEN LEAVED JAPANESE MAPLE but after they reach 4-5 years of age they will hold a whitish variegation through the summer. The New Spring growth will be pinkish white sometimes more pink than white and vice versa. Ukigumo is very unique in that it is constantly changing from year to year and from season to season. The leaves are sometimes nearly all-white, with the merest flecks of green; other times possessing much more green with extravagant white markings with pink tips & highlights. Sometimes the new leaves are green with light green specks then they change to mostly white and pink. I ordered 2 only one survived. The one is doing really well!! I have it in a pot. You will need to kind of baby it at first but it will do well in the sun. It’s in the high 90’s here. But do not expect customer service from them! Never got an answer on the one that died quickly after receiving. **Q: Do you have an updated picture of the tree you can send me please?** A: N0. I don't buy from this vendor. **Q: What size tree is being sold?** A: The vendor lists "2-year old" trees, which I don't believe.
