Bluetooth over the ear headphones that don't suck for under $40?
Can quality Bluetooth performance and sound be had for under 40 dollars? Ever since Bluetooth technology debuted I've been enamored with it. The fact a device that can transmit voice or music through the air to a small device I could wear blew my mind. But with all technology it seems that the more you want in quality the more you have to open your wallet to get it. So when I started to hear stories about an offering of over the ear stereo bluetooth headphones that performed better than their price point suggested, I had to try them out. Thankfully I was pleasantly surprised. Enter the Photive PH-BTH3, a bold but unassuming looking headset that appears to be quality but isn't up in your face about it (I'm looking at you Beats). Upon receiving the headset, the box itself seemed very sturdy and not one of those strangely labeled boxes from companies you've never heard of selling electronics from overseas. Inside the only thing you will see is the hard shell carrying case and two packages of desiccant. Everything else is contained within the carrying case. Upon opening the case you will see a headset with a fold flat design, a package containing a double ended 3.5 millimeter headphone cord, & a micro USB charging cord, and the instruction manual which strangely enough is written in perfect English. As you look at the headphones themselves it seems pretty much standard fare. On the right hand cup you will find a power on button which is also the call answer/end button, and a volume up and volume down key. Towards the front of the right cup you will find a snug fitting cover for both the 3.5 millimeter headphone cord and a micro USB port for charging. On the left Cup you will find the track forward and track backward buttons as well as a play/ pause button. Forward of that you will see a small opening with a notation pointing out the internal microphone. Each one of these controls has a satisfying click when Used however it is not so loud that it becomes annoying. The finish of each cup is of a slightly rubberized finish that unfortunately likes to attract fingerprints and oil from the hands but is easy to wipe off. The BTH-3's come loaded the newest iteration of bluetooth 4.0, although of course it is backwards compatible with any Bluetooth device. Holding down the power button you will hear tones that will be quite familiar to anyone who has used Bluetooth before but there will be no vocal prompting for pairing instructions as with higher end units. A beep sounds and a subdued LED on the left cup begins flashing the familiar blue and red. Pairing is as simple as it ever was and then I was ready to go. One thing that I was very happy to see was the company's use of a padded headband. I myself am bald so if the headband is not comfortable or presses into the skin of my head as I have no hair to cushion it, it can be kind of a deal breaker but this was pleasantly comfortable, And the earcup padding is also quite thick and soft. The cups themselves actually fit over the ear as the style of headphone would suggest unlike others that actually rests on the ear. As for performance the headphones really shine. Other headphones of A similar design and much higher cost usually have a limitation or two, either their bass response is good but the maximum volume of the headphones is lacking. I'm no audiophile but the BTH-3's provide a well-rounded audio profile with the highs and mids being crisp and clear, and the bass is quite pleasant but not overpowering. (For those wanting a heavier bass option check out the Photive BTX6 headphones) The unit has a maximum volume that would surely cause a headache if used for more than a few minutes, these are definitely something for the headbangers. Even with such a high volume setting these headphones still boast a 13 - 15 hour battery life with a 3 hour charge time. I also tested the 3.5 mm corded option of this unit with my xbox one video game system as I wanted to see if the internal microphone would be picked up and was pleasantly surprised. Every explosion, every gunshot was strikingly clear and my voice was heard perfectly clearly by my teammates. As for call clarity I have a Samsung Note 3, and for the several calls I made using this headset the people on the other end actually said I sounded clearer than I usually do using my phone's stock microphone. Of course the headphones have the standard 33 foot range of signal but I was able eek out about 2 more feet and still have no breakage of signal even through walls. I would actually say if I had any complaints at all about this headset is that there is lack of support to activate any kind of voice control. You will not be using Siri or S voice with these headphones stand alone as there is no way to activate them unless you actually have your handset in your hand. But if that's the only complaint I have about a $40 pair of headphones I'd say that money is still well spent So i guess the answer is... the Photive BTH-3 available from amazon.com for 39.99 Pros- Volume for days 13-15 hr battery life Comfort factor Included hard shell case included

Great Headphones for an even Greater Price!
(review is being written by the person who received the headphones as a gift from me) I had been wanting some bluetooth headphones for quite some time and I had looked at everything from the horrendously overpriced wireless beats to the expensive bose ae2w, and pretty much everything down to the $30 mark. Being dissatisfied with pretty much everything except for the ae2w's but I still couldnt take the price of those being the poor college student that I am. Lo and behold on Valentines Day my girlfriend gives me a box and inside it are these Photive brand headphones. I was a bit skeptical since they were from a brand I had never heard of as well as the fact they were so cheap, but nonetheless I put them on and connected my phone to them (Motorola Moto X) right away. Pairing was a breeze, there were no troubles there. and what came through those speakers next literally blew my mind. I started listening to some of my favorite electronic music and WHAM the bass would kick in and these headphones sounded almost as good as the ae2w's except without the massive price tag. I continued to listen to all the types of music that I do like to listen to and these headphones perform well in everything, never was I disappointed in the sound quality that they delivered. On the comfort side these headphones are a heck of a lot more comfortable than my Sony MDR-V55's which were way too tight on my head and they were on the ear rather than over the ear like these are. I'm a programmer so I tend to wear my headphones for hours on end from time to time, and the V55's always had to be taken off about every hour due to the fact that my ears were starting to hurt from wearing them. I have yet to have such a problem with these headphones, I can just wear them for as long as I please and never have any problems with them. The battery on these headphones is pretty much as advertised, I didn't have to recharge them after my first full charging of them for about 2 weeks, which is pretty crazy considering how much I use them. All in all, I can't speak highly enough of these headphones, as they have completely blown me away for the price that they are being offered at. They have great sound, a great battery life as well as a comfortable headset. Highly recommended!

having only used wired headphones before thought I would give bluetooth ones a go.Was browsing the ones available on amazon and the Bose ones at £200 looked good.Got to thinking thats still a lot of money mentioned this to my nephew who mentioned an online review for these Photive ones saying they are very good value. Ordered them and I have to say they are very good quality with good sound and comfortable fit and for the money, excellent. The micro usb cable was a tight fit in the headphone other than that, great.

great headphones for the money! sound quality is pretty good but there is a fair bit of sound leakage. battery life is great, must have been about 10-12 hours total. the ear cups arent very soft and they seem a bit too lightweight but for £32 its not an issue
