Holy bowel movement
So I didn't really think it would make THAT much of a difference but it does. Everything clearer, no static and also don't have to worry about the dam xbox controller turning off when I'm watching streaming services. Cords are sufficiently long. The only two downside things are that you are 100 percent wired which is a small sacrifice for the boost in sound quality. Be prepared to be like the old days yelling at your siblings to watch the cord. I just sit close enough to where you can only go around me one way and solves the issue. Also the dac literally has no off switch and when you turn off the xbox it does not turn off no matter even if you are in full shutdown mode and not quick start. Expect the lights to stay on no matter what. I've just taken to unplugging the power cable from the back of the dac and hoping the repeated unplugging and replugging will not be harmful in the long run. Some people suggested getting a usb switcher so you can just switch off it when you are done playing. As for the headphones are comfortable and sound great but also ear cups lay flat plus headband is adjustable. I had no issues setting it up. Just plug the power cable into the USB on the xbox and that goes to the back of the dac. The included optical connection is required to get sound from your Xbox but the trick is that x/s no longer have an optical out. You'll need to either hook it up to a hdmi signal splitter or some TV have an optical out which is what I used. Also you have to update your firmware before you can get voice chat on xbox and worse yet it will not auto update. If it's not 36797 or later it will not work. You have to manually find it not on their site the firmware and update it. If you need help finding it. Ask me a question and I'll help. Now all this seems like too many hoops for you to jump through then maybe this isn't for you. I feel it's worth it and honestly setup is super quick once you know what to do.

Read carefully if you're stuck!
First of all, these are fantastic headphones. They are exactly what I've been looking for in a pair of gaming cans and they have kickass bass. The Astro Command Center app also allows you to create 4 equalizer presets in advance that you can swap between by tapping the button on the mixamp, without having to minimize your game or video. The default first preset is labeled "Astro" and it sounds damn good right out of the gate. The bass sounds nice and rich without being overpowering, but what really surprised me was the amount of sub bass they can produce. I was playing Dead Island to test out the spatial sound and I could actually feel the slight "thud" of an explosion far off in the distance in the game. Impressive. I would definitely recommend these muffs. The mic sounds really good for a headset, about as good as a modern smartphone with full signal, in terms of clarity. It also has a mute switch on the cord that is comically large but lightweight, like a LifeAlert button (and equally important if you're using the headset for a work meeting). 9.5/10 very much like 👍 Now, for some tech nerd isht: I read a lot of the reviews before I bought these bc there are a ton of people saying that they don't work properly. After struggling with them for a few minutes, I can see exactly where people are getting stuck. When you plug the headphones into your PC to update the firmware (which you MUST do or they sound like OG iPod headphones), the app (Astro Command Center, pictured) will ask if you want to update the firmware. When I clicked yes, the program immediately crashed, and when I reopened it I was never prompted to update again. To fix this and ensure that the firmware is installed correctly, reconnect the mixamp to your PC and locate the firmware version number in the upper left hand corner. Copy that number and search google for "Astro A40 firmware update *firmware version number*" and then find a link to download the .afw file that corresponds to your firmware number. Under the settings menu on the command centre app, click "update firmware manually" and then direct the app to the .afw file. This solves the firmware issue. As for software, it really seems like you *must* use Dolby Atmos for these headphones to work. I don't generally prefer Atmos over DTX, but the sound quality is night and day with the A40s, and you can disable overhead surround in Atmos if the artificial nature of that feature bothers you. Hope that helps.

Headphones and accessories in perfect condition. Seller saved me a lot of money.
I bought the Astro A40 + Mixamp Pro package. This was advertised as "like new" but without original box. I received the the headphones in a well packaged box. Everything was in sealed plastic bags and neatly wrapped. All items were present including documentation. Headphones, wires, and mixamp were free of any defects. This looked like someone took everything out of the original box and repackaged it. I took a chance as the description said there may be minor imperfections but I did an thorough inspection and found everything to be in new condition. The headphones themselves are great. They are the 2nd pair that I've bought. The first set was also A40s which I had for 7 years that were bought used. These fit better than a recent pair of Logitech g635s; they were too tight and gave me headaches after a day's use. The ear cushions are soft cloth material and the headband flexes enough to fit but is sturdy enough to hold securely. The mixamp is great. It allows me to adjust the volume in game on the fly on my PC without adjust sound settings. The lights turn red on the mixamp when my mic is muted which is a great and unexpected feature. The sound of is crystal clear and the mic produces a clean and natural reproduction of my voice. There is also a self monitor system in place that lets me hear myself as I talk. This can be turned off I wish and the volume adjusted. I'm very happy with my purchase and would highly recommend these headphones and this seller.

Nearly perfect
I'm reviewing here my experience with the A40 TR Wired Headset + MixAmp Pro TR on PC. 9/10 Audio quality Audio sounds excellent. I personally love the open back design, but if you need something that isolates surrounding sources, this would definitely be problematic for you. The "Stream" line out audio quality is superb. No hum, no ground loops, and a vanishingly low noise floor. You would think this should just be a given, but unfortunately in this world, this is very much the exception. EDIT: It would appear that a ground loop occurs when using the AUX port. See my update to the review below. 6/10 Mic quality Nothing special here. The mic quality is about the same as any gaming headset. It's fine for in-game chat, but it's bright and hollow. If you're looking for broadcast quality for your stream, you will need an additional active mic like a Blue Yeti. 10/10 Comfort Easily the most comfortable headset I've ever worn. I usually hate over ear headphones. They get uncomfortable around the contact points (around ear, top of head where the yoke touches). But I have worn these for almost 8 hours in one sitting and never experienced a shred of discomfort. Truly spectacular. I can tell they really focused on this in their design. 8/10 Functionality The MixAmp is really good for the basics. While overall the enclosure feels like cheap plastic, the attenuators are nice and sturdy and have an excellent tactile resistance. I don't understand the point of the Dolby setting, as it seems like it just adds a ton of reverb. I recommend disabling it by pressing the toggle button so that the star light is lit. This should really be the default, but it's not. Also, unfortunately, the default curve is not flat, so I recommend selecting the third equalization from the top. That produces the best sound in my opinion. I wish the unit had some way to more precisely control the Stream mix, but for that, your options appear to be either a very expensive stand-alone stream mixer, or a somewhat expensive Steelseries headset+mixer combo unit, and trust me when I tell you to avoid the Steelseries option. Their stuff is terrible quality in every measurable dimension. UPDATE: I recently had some experience with the AUX feature and need to share some knowledge. If you want to have a "side" conversation in Discord running on another device, the mixamp has an AUX TRRS port for this purpose. For instance plugging your phone into the TRRS port will connect the mixamp as a headset for calls. However, the call *will not* be mixed into the Stream line out. I don't understand why they decided to do this. Surely most people using the AUX port for side conversations want the audio of that conversation to be heard on stream as well. To work around this issue, the audio being played to the headset via the AUX port will need to be monitored either via hardware (eg a y-splitter) or software. Now unfortunately, there is a much worse issue when using the AUX port that occurs when connecting a device with a separate power supply: ground loop. For instance, if you want to run Discord on your stream PC and use your headset via the AUX port, all your headset audio will have a nasty digitally sounding high pitch noise over it. It's like nails on a chalkboard to me. I just want to note here that this *does not* happen when connecting a device with a floating ground like a mobile phone. Fortunately, I found tha the issue is resolved by inserting a USB audio isolator (you can find them on amazon) between the mixamp and your game source and an isolator between the mixamp and your call source. So in my case, I have: 1) Gaming PC -> isolator -> Mixamp USB input and 2) Streaming PC -> isolator -> USB sound card -> Mixamp AUX input.

Got jobbed by a flashy marketing and monkeys in suits acting like support staff
My expectations were very high for this headset. Other than the fact I dropped some serious coin for it, I believed the hype about it being the best headset I could ever hope to own. Look, it sound is literally just average played through PC or XBOX. Maybe a little better than a generic 20 dollar headset but not a whole lot better. Certainly not Earth shattering or groundbreaking. I can name 4 or 5 other brands I've owned that were stars above better than this. That said, I really bought it for the mixamp. In my opinion the mixamp turns this from a dumpster fire of a sale to a much more manageable train wreck. The mix amp, does what it says its gonna do. I mixes and it amplifies but does NEITHER well enough to impress me. You can play all day long with the software and jog radials trying to get things just right but it never sounds great. Now, please let this be a word of warning. This thing is heavy if you make the mistake of buying the upgrade mod kit with noise cancelling mic and heavy as heck ear pieces and cushions. Just don't do it. People were constantly complaining about my room fan noise keying my mic on discord even with the fan halfway across the loft. No matter how much time I spent on sensitivity settings, I was either constantly keying or clipped. There was not a perfect collection of settings that would make it work as it should. Did I mention this thing is a tank when you have the upgrade pieces and have it on your head for hours? If its not the heaviest headset I've ever owned it's close to it. After a couple of hours I'm constantly repositioning it to keep it from causing pressure points on my hairline. Just wears really heavy. I originally purchased it, along with the noise cancelling mod kit at the end of March, by the middle of July it was broken. Not from drops (never been dropped) not from mishandling or overuse but from regular every day use. Hard to describe this but the ear cushion frames connect to the silver rod that is connected to the head piece that stretches over your head then connects similarly to the other ear piece. These connections on the silver rod allow for the ear to slightly rotate using pressure around the rod so you can adjust the ear piece to the angle of your head. Hard to picture, I know but in essence the ear piece is held to the silver rod by a clamp of sorts that has a screw through the middle that screws through the clamp, through the rod and into the internal flange of the the clamp that is positioned inside the silver rod. So, the tighter the screw, the more pressure on the clamp and the tighter the ear piece gets. Without that screw, the ear piece has no pressure and and cant stay firm which makes the entire headset loose and unwearable. Please just trust me when I tell you, your massive outlay of coin for this headset and the mod kit relies on that single screw. So... sitting in my office chair dodging complaints about my clipping, this time in Zoom btw and my headset falls off my head. Yep, through normal use that screw fell out and is all but impossible to put back in. It screws in but it never stays in place and the headset wont tighten. So, yeah, 4 months after dropping this kind of coin I will have to have it repaired. Now here comes the worst part. Support. I cannot tell you how difficult these people are to reach. There is no support number, no live chat just a web form where you provide your information and hope someone gets back to you. They never do and you MUST follow up with them and complain before anyone takes the ticket and starts working it. I have had to send picture after picture and describe MULTIPLE times what is wrong with it. I'm almost 3 weeks into originally contacting them now and I don't have an RMA number yet, don't even have an acknowledgement that they are even remotely interesting in fixing it. So, 3 weeks on conference calls with my old "trusty" $20 dollar headset. Let me be clear they will NEVER simply pick up a ticket and respond as if you are being helped. You make responses or send info and they will do NOTHING until you email again and complain. Simple things like explaining where to find a specific serial number takes 3 days. I know you want to trust this company, yeah, their marketing is good and they have allot of hype but my hardware is literally junk and their support is akin to asking monkeys in suits to provide quality customer service. They are simply incapable of managing a huge workload- visa vi hundreds if not thousands of RMA tickets being worked at one time. Meaning their equipment has a out of this word high failure rate or they have zero oversite of the monkeys responding to tickets. Clearly expectations have not been met in this case. I'll update this review after I've completed my support nightmare with them and provide you with even more, scary detail. Run away from this thing. Run now.

Best Overall Gaming Headset I have tried.
I have been on a crusade find to a high quality headset that comfortably fits my big ass head; everything else so far has been too tight! These are all around the best I have encountered. My only two complaints are that they are still a bit more snug than hyper x cloud's so a bit less comfortable, but I don't think this will be an issue for people with normal sized noggins. Also the cord that comes with the amp needs to be longer. If I could go back and do it again I would have just got the normal PC version instead of these hybrids with an amp. I didn't really understand when i was buying them, but these were on sale for Black Friday sooo I pulled the trigger. That's it though! Longer cord and a bit more tuned for bigger heads are my only issues. Overall really great would recommend these. Killer sound. OH and I LOVE that they have pull out panels to make them open acoustic vs closed sound stage! Thought that was genius.

Amazing Headphones
I use to use audio technica m50x for gaming and they were a very nice pair of headphones. After switching to an actual gaming pair of headphones it was night and day. It has really blown my mind on how convenient and comfortable this item is. Originally the size of the overear cups seem obnoxiously roomy but you will quickly adapt and it feels great. I really like having the ability to switch the microphone on and off whenever I want with the cord switch, making the headphones super convenient. The mix amp is great for volume control and the equalizer presets from the software was pretty nice and simple to use. The headphones feels amazing and the sound quality is a lot better than id expect coming from a pair of gaming headphones. They are comfy enough to wear and game for unhealthy amounts of time with no head pains. Music is okay but compared to some other music listening headphones I notice there was like certain frequencies of sound not being there in songs but overall I think the product is solid. The only downside for me is having the ear cups being squeaky and that really bothers me but amazon was kind enough to exchange and fingers cross that this new pair does not squeak. Update: The new pair does not squeak im sure that was an uncommon issue and the music not having certain frequencies was not a problem I forgot that I had certain preset for FPS gaming to sound whore. So overall the headset is a 5 stars all day.

Best Gaming Headset I’ve bought to date.
It’s crazy to think this gaming headset still holds up to the competitors in 2022. •••••• Pros: ••••••• • Great build quality, when you hold it in your hand you know its top quality. • Good mic audio quality, when you’re in a party chat your friends will be able to tell you have a better headset lol. • Every almost every piece on the headset is detachable so if something breaks it’s easy to replace. • Great audio, I use it on a Xbox Series X and Olán to keep using it when I move to PC. • Good audio presets, I mainly use Tournament mode when gaming (fourth option) and Balanced when watching YouTube videos or anything that isn’t gaming related (second option). • Great cord length for almost any setup (also kinda a con I’ll get more into that) •••••• Cons: ••••••• • The cord length can some times getting a bit annoying depending on far or close you are to the mixer, there are many times we’re i accidentally step on the cord or it gets caught on other cords I have. • Xbox Live Party chat doesn’t recognize the mic when I have it connected through the Mixer, I’ve updated it, checked the cords and nothing is wrong, apparently you can get past this if you get another 4 hooped Aux cord and connect it from the back of the Mix amp to your controller but I feel like that’s bit much. • When I first for the Headset it had a very noticeable static sound in the background, if you get this check if your Optical cord is connected correctly to your Xbox/PC and Mix amp, this fixed it and I haven’t heard it since the first time I bought it.

Amazing headset for gaming
I had an Astro a50 before I think they were gen 2 but I would get too many random drops in connection maybe because I have so many other wireless devices in the area. I ended up going to the a40 to combat the connection problems. The sound on these and the a50 are the same which is great because both of them sound amazing. Most of my current gaming is done on pc playing call of duty which if you play multiplayer you know it can be important to hear as many sounds clearly as possible specifically foot steps. The sound in my opinion is amazing and does what I need it to. I love having the mixer right here as well to make adjustments to the sound of I need to versus having to change it on the pc. Great headset, would definitely recommend.

Obsoletos

Not bad, not amazing.
Been a good headset for the past year that I have had them. The switch to turn voice off on the cable has stopped working properly, but other than that I have no issues.
