Swingline Stapler, 40 Sheet Capacity, Optima 40, Jam Free, Reduced Effort, Compact, Soft Grip, Metal, Orange, Silver and Black (87842)

I was curious about American staplers, so I bought a Swingline and a BOSTITCH, and compared them with a Japanese stapler I already owned: the MAX Vaimo 11. I did side-by-side stapling tests with all three. All three staplers are rated to staple up to 40 sheets. In terms of size, the Vaimo 11 (Japan) is the smallest, then BOSTITCH, and Swingline is the largest. I’m Japanese and have relatively small hands, so the compact Vaimo 11 is the easiest for me to grip. However, many people in the U.S. have larger hands, so Swingline may feel more comfortable, and the Vaimo 11 might feel a bit small. Next is stapling effort (how much force it takes). For “Can I staple with very little force?”, Swingline and Vaimo 11 felt about the same: they stapled very smoothly and lightly. BOSTITCH seemed to require a bit more force. I also checked the back side of the paper (the staple legs) by touching it to see whether the staple tips stick out. Vaimo 11 and Swingline clinched very cleanly and flush. BOSTITCH was still fine, but when I touch the back side, I can feel the staple tips slightly more. Because Japanese and U.S. staples are not interchangeable, I used MAX No.11 staples (6 mm leg length) for the Vaimo 11, and BOSTITCH 1/4" Premium Standard staples for the BOSTITCH and Swingline. Because the U.S. staples have slightly longer legs, when stapling 40 sheets, Swingline looked the cleanest and felt the most secure. The Vaimo 11 did staple the stack, but since the legs are a bit shorter, I feel slightly worried it could come loose (even though it held). In the photo, the staples are placed from the edge of the paper in this order: Vaimo 11, then BOSTITCH, then Swingline. Stapler colors: Blue = Vaimo 11, Black = BOSTITCH, Black/Gray/Orange = Swingline. Also, with U.S. staples, I found that I needed to snap/break the staple strip to fit it into the stapler. In Japan, staples are sold in a length that always fits in the stapler, so you don’t have to think about that. I thought it was interesting—kind of a practical “longer is better, you can adjust it yourself” approach that feels very American. Overall, if you don’t care about size: 1) Swingline, 2) Vaimo 11, 3) BOSTITCH. If you want a smaller stapler: 1) Vaimo 11, 2) Swingline, 3) BOSTITCH. Either way, this Swingline stapler performs extremely well and I’m very impressed. I just received the two staplers I ordered from the U.S., so I can’t comment on durability yet.

I didn’t realize I was ordering the compact size, but it turned out to be a really nice surprise. This stapler is powerful despite its smaller footprint and handles thick stacks of paper smoothly with minimal effort. It feels solid and well-made, and the reduced-effort feature actually makes a difference. Very easy to use, at the nice vibrant pop of color add to its modern chic look. The compact size is perfect for a desk without taking up much space. If you want something strong, reliable, and space-efficient, this stapler delivers more than you’d expect.

This is a functional and stylish stapler!

We like these smaller staplers. They stand up on their nose, so don't take up much desk space and are easy to grab and use. We've had several of these for a while now and still no staple jams. They fit about 1/2 strip of staples so you're filling them more often but if they held a full strip they'd be too big and awkward to use. Well made of solid materials. Easy to use. Fits in the hand easily. Looks good too! Well worth the cost on these.

Initial quality of Swingline Optima 40-Sheet Finger-Tip-Press Stapler is excellent. It's use is even easier than an older PaperPro plastic bodied stapler I have used since the self-powered stapler design first became available in the USA. The ease of use these devices provide for people with Arthritis, Parkinson's Disease, Behcet's Disease and other hand or motor deficiencies is nothing short of an incredible benefit! I also believe these devices would give persons who have to staple thick packets of paper forms or many packets per day considerable relief from the danger strains and cramps in the hand, and subsequent onset of more permanent hand/motor issues. My judgements at this point on the Swingline product are strictly first impressions and judgements. I cannot yet make any judgement of long-term performance or dependability, although use of metal base construction and good quality materials in initial build leads me to expect a good and long service life from this product.

This is the most popular stapler in our office. Does a good job on 2 sheet to 15 when you use the good staples. Except: 1 out of 4 doesn't close the staples all the way, The problem one is only 2 years old. The older ones are still working just fine. I can confirm that they do not jam, are compact, very nice on our tendonitis, fairly easy to load, but not that quiet. I can't find if there is a warranty other than from Amazon, but this stapler is definitely not working well. For a Swingline, that is surprising. I'm going to buy another one, and hope it works better.

I tested it on a 30-page report the other day and it went through smoothly without that exhausting squeeze. - No jams so far when I stick to decent staples (the Optima ones or similar premium ones seem to make the difference). - The flat clinch feature is nice for stacking papers neatly — no bulky staple bumps messing up my folders. - Quick to load and it can stand upright to save desk space. On the flip side, it's not perfect. A few times with thicker stacks near the max it felt like it needed a firmer press than advertised, and I wonder about long-term durability since some folks online mentioned wear over heavy daily use. The staple capacity inside isn't huge, so I reload more often than with bigger models. For the price, it delivers decent value if you're not stapling hundreds of pages every single day — it's not the cheapest option out there, but you get reliable performance instead of constant frustration. I expected a decent upgrade that would make office tasks quicker and less annoying, and for the most part it has. It met my expectations on ease and capacity for everyday practical stuff like binding expense reports before a flight or organizing meeting notes. It hasn't transformed my life or anything, but it quietly does the job without drama, which is exactly what I wanted. Real-world, I've used it for: - Stapling travel documents together so they don't scatter in my bag. - Binding printed contracts or invoices. - Quick fixes on printed recipes or kid's school stuff at home. If you're someone who deals with medium stacks of paper a few times a week and hates fighting staplers, this one earns its keep. It's not flashy, but it's solid.

I first came across the Swingline "low force" stapler at my prior job and thought it was fine but really didn't think it was anything special. It was a stapler. And it sort of annoyed me that it didn't open up as the typical staplers do if you want to post something on the wall. Well, all of that changed when I switched jobs and was provided with the old normal type staplers that are not "low force". Boy did I miss my old stapler! About a week in, I decided I had to have it and I ordered it. I reviewed a bunch of staplers and never knew that there could be such varied reviews about a stapler! In any event, I landed on this one as I wanted something that could staple more than just 10 or 15 pages and I didn't want to spend a ton of money on an electric stapler (which I would love to have). Given my previous experience with these staplers I don't anticipate that I will have any problems with this stapler from a traditional use sense. Thus far, I have used it to staple about 25 pages and it has worked great! Yes, it does not hold a lot of staples, but having the "low force" stapler back in my life that can staple more than 10 or 15 pages is great! One note on the "low force" staplers in general - in my experience, they can break easily. I accidentally dropped one and it never worked again - no idea why, I just couldn't get it to work again. Other than that, the "low force" stapler is the best stapler out there.

This is the best stapler i have ever had. Been using for about a year now and it always staples perfectly. Never gets stuck, never goes wonky with a staple. Awesome stapler. The video shows it stapling 35 sheets of A4 80gsm ie normal sort of paper that you put in your printer.

Swingline Optima 40 is one of the best stapler I have ever used. Though it said compact stapler, considering 40-sheet capacity, I was expecting somewhat bulky and bigger stapler. When I opened the box, I was surprised with very small, compact size and lightweight but sturdy construction. I have used full size office stalkers and they required quite a bit of force to staple. But Swingline Optima 40 cuts through stack of pages very very effortlessly. You can staple 20-30 page stack by single finger. It’s smooth, Jam-free and effortless. Grip is cushioned and ergonomic. Great Design! Another feature I liked is flat clinch stapling. Which means it will staple flat and when you stack bunch of stapled piles of paper, it will lay flat neatly. I ordered it for my home office, but will take one to office where office services provides big full size staplers. After using this one, you will not like those bulky machines.
