I would not advise that because the ceramic bits get too hot and burn tiny holes and ruins them. This feels so great when it's piping hot. I had surgery for a herniated disc and spinal stenosis. It brings significant relief even if only briefly. It is most effective with heat. I don't find it stays cold long enough. Can sometimes smell like burning. But I do heat it for 4-5 minutes.
