HQ User Friendly Camera
Very User friendly camera for beginners. Purchased for $199. It is a 16mp camera with 1080p video. It has a good sensor and lens, so it produces high quality images. The lens and sensor matter more than the megapixel count. I have an old KODAK easyshare C653 6.1mp camera that takes better pictures than a Samsung PL120 14.2mp for that reason. For video, I prefer using the 720p setting so the battery lasts longer, and it is still very good quality. It has Wi-Fi, so you can transfer your videos and pictures to your pc that way, or directly to Facebook if you have an internet connection. I prefer to just put the memory card in the pc myself and copy & paste to the destination I want. The default auto settings seem to work very well, but there are other settings and features once you get more familiar with the camera. It has the usual delay mode for setting the camera down to tae group pictures with the photographer. The timer can be custom set up to a 30 second delay if you want, and up to 10 pictures can be taken before setting it again. Or you can use a feature that when it detects a smile, or wink, it will take a picture. There is less than 1 second delay after taking a picture until the still image is off the screen and you can tae another picture. The 12x optical zoom works great and can make high quality 8x10 photos. The 24x digital zoom is good too and works good with 5x7, but I haven't tried it for 8x10 yet. The 48x digital zoom is ok, but does lose some quality. Video: It can use the 12x optical zoom for video, and unlike some other cameras, with the Canon Powershot ELPH 340 HS, you CAN zoom in and out while recording video. The microphone is located in the front of the camera too, so your fingers don't cover it.

Great camera!
The PowerShot ELPH 340 HS is the second ELPH I've purchased (my last one is still used - bought it 4 years ago and took hundreds of pictures). Overall, the ELPH has always been a great product. I specifically bought this one to enjoy network access and other new functionality. It's a small camera that fits easily into my pocket or purse. It delivers high quality pictures and video. It does a good job zooming in, with much less noise than the earlier versions. I can take pictures of our kids and dogs - even with my shaky hands - and the pics and videos turn out great. It has a nice 'auto' mode for novice users but a programming mode for those who want more control over the functionality. My only wish - and this could be a user issue - is that night pictures and video worked better.

Convenient Feature Camera while on the Go
I purchased this to use at times I didn't/couldn't lug around my T3i with me; also, it's replacing my SD1400is (2010). So far I am pleased with the quality and abundance of features that are packed into this camera! Pros: Nice image quality Fast focus Wi-Fi/NFC capabilities Smooth/great quality HD filming Cons: The body is pretty light, I like/am used to heavier frames. I miss the cold aluminum sturdiness of the SD1400is. It doesn't come with a usb cord - I'm sure by now you may have an extra mini usb cord (top hat) laying around but it would've been nice. LCD can be a bit grainy at times. Canon went with the new Digic 4+ processor for the ELPH 340 - think of it as a happy medium between Digic 4 and 5 but optimized. I haven't had any issues with speed or lag. The camera responds promptly every time. As far as battery life, I will report back after a day of shooting images. Either way I still would recommend you purchase a back up battery just in case. The initial set up was quick and painless. I would love if they added the ability to include copyright info within the camera but this can be done in Photoshop in a click - it would still be nice to have. The Wi-Fi was surprisingly responsive and I ran into no trouble with setting it up with my router, phone or PC. This camera also has NFC for even easier connections. In my test videos, I was impressed with the image stability the most - this would make a great vlogging companion. The screen has a small amount of grain during playback but remember this is for review. Once imported into my computer the HD video looked great. *IMPORTANT* You must try out the Canon CW app in tandem with the camera. This app has remote shutter, the ability to share/browse pictures, remote shut off, and more! Even if you don't plan on using it, give it a try. I used it with the Android app. Though there is a slight delay, but it isn't off putting. All in all I am happy with my purchase and plan to use this for a long time. I will upload pictures into the customer photo section as soon as I can! *Update* I have added a couple images to the customer section. I am having a great time working with this camera.

I love, love, love my new camera!
I had purchased a Canon PowerShot a number of years ago and was looking to upgrade. I only had one minor issue with that camera's zoom, so I wanted to stick with the Canon brand. I wasn't sure at first about buying a camera that hadn't been released yet, but I liked what I saw based on the specs. I wanted a compact point and shoot camera with more optical zoom than my original camera, as well as video and wi-fi. I was also hesitant on paying $199.99, but I was willing to pay a bit more for the features. I had read some reviews out there stating that this camera has "too much noise", but I honestly don't even notice. The pictures are beautiful and the optical zoom is great. The wi-fi was fairly easy to set up and the NFC with my smartphone is a plus, but it does drain the battery if you're using that feature alot on one charge. The camera does have eco-mode which turns off your screen after a shot to help to save your battery - a simple push of any button on the camera will turn the screen back on right away so that you can take your next picture. I purchased a back up battery just in case I need it. The camera is light weight (not as heavy duty as my original Canon point and shoot), but it seems durable. I plan on adding a screen protector to the screen to prevent scratches. I've been using this camera for about a week now and am impressed. I plan on using it on my upcoming vacation to capture shots that would otherwise be grainy / dark with my smartphone.

Very nice compact camera with Canon quality
I have had several other Canon point and shoot cameras and purchased this camera for my wife. She enjoys having a camera that fits easily in her purse, is easy to uses, has a decent telephoto capacity, and takes decent pictures. The 340 meets all of these requirements. It is also lighter than some of their other small cameras. I do wish that Canon had an optical view finder but they have all disappeared except on a very inexpensive camera. I also suggest purchasing a second battery. As another reviewer stated, this camera does seem to drain it's battery even when not in use. Follow up: Yes the battery drains in 3-4 week of sitting idle. Canon's solution is to remove the battery. A sure way to have your battery door break much sooner than it should. I suggested to Canon that they have an active power drain in the camera, probably the time and date. Canon stated that they take all their batteries out on a daily basis. I don't believe them. I have had several Canons, this is the only model that drains the battery when in short term storage. You want to be able to garb and shoot (the whole point of a "point and shoot", not install a battery and then shoot. I still like the picture quality and the size and weight but must reduce the rating from 4-3 stars by the above problem.

Love This Easy To Use Canon PowerShot & Its MANY Features
This is my husband's camera but I've been using it quite a bit lately since my other two very old digital cameras have finally gone to that vast electronics graveyard. I like this better than either of my former cameras, anyway, and my husband is great about sharing. (One was a Nikon and one was actually a different Canon -- the PowerShot A1100IS which lasted for YEARS and did a great job under heavy use but was thicker and heavier and required AA batteries.) First of all, this is smaller and weighs less. Second, it doesn't require batteries because it has a battery pack. I bought him an extra one so that one battery can always be charged, ready to insert. The battery pack lasts a LONG time, especially if one doesn't use a flash, easily a whole day's shooting. Third -- Battery pack and SDHD card are extremely easy to insert and remove. And fourth (but should be number one on my list) -- I love the high quality of photos (16 megapixels!) and videos and the 12x zoom. Fifth -- all of these are easy to use. On "AUTO" this camera IS easy to use! But there are so many features included -- it's up to the user -- use it simply, or delve into any of the many features and use this high-performance camera to its full potential! I have not yet tried wifi for sharing or remote shooting. But we have used the timer -- just set the camera on a mini tripod, pose and a few seconds later we've got a group shot. I haven't tried "creative shot mode" which outputs 5 filter variations.

Excellent Camera for the Money
Takes great photos and videos, considering the price. Very nice, compact, easy to use camera. A myriad of settings, but we usually keep it on "auto" and let it figure out what to do. I'm sure SLRs and video cameras take better photos and videos, but I can't believe the difference is all that great if you just look at the results on your computer or make small prints, and it is a heck of lot easier to carry this around. Battery life seems quite good, although there is no viewfinder (presumably that is the norm these days) and therefore the screen must be lit to take pictures.

Very Pleased with this Camera
We've only had it for a week, but so far so good. ~ So small and easy to use right away. Love the color. ~ Takes sharp photos outside and inside with flash. Fast focus, good quality. User friendly, just power up and start snapping... ~ Standing on the porch at the top 16 stairs down to the garden where I used the zoom to take a close up a photo of some coleus. It came out really well. ~ Using the closeup feature works great. ~ I love the wall plug in provided for the battery! No cord, no big, heavy adapter, just pop the battery in a small plastic box and plug in the wall. I may come back later, when I've used the camera more, but, as I said, so far, so good....Very happy with this purchase.

Canon Powershot
I purchased this for my wife. She was asking for a camera that she could use. The camera I had was a Canon DSL which she thought was too big and complicated. After using this for a short time she is taking excellent pictures and video. It's so easy to use. She likes the ability on using the Cannon app that transfers all the picture to her iPhone. Great camera!

great little camera
i like this camera alot, its the first of 3 powershot cameras i have that shoots 1080p...not like a dslr but for vlog style videos it does the trick...but let me tell you, this battery drains alot while shooting videos, i used up 8.26gb on the card before it died...theres 3rd party batteries i purchased for $26.99 from big mikes, it comes with 2 batteries, 1 charger and a few other car and european stuff but you will need it if u dont want to run low on battery...all my higher end cameras have extra batteries...the only drawback is the door on the bottom of the camera, it seems too loose and can break so dont torture it
