Can this EQ be connected to a receiver?

It could and it should. A receiver is nothing more than an AMP and PRE-AMP combined.

Only xlr and 1/4 inch? or rca as well? and same connections in and out?

This equalizer only has XLR and TRS jacks. However, I use it with RCA-cables with TRS-adapters for the equalizer-jacks.

Can this be used with a yamaha aventage rx-a1080 receiver.

The receiver is a 7.2 channel, 9 speaker, surround sound device. The equalizer is a 2 channel, stereo device. In that sense, they are not compatible.
