I would probably give it more like 4 1/2 stars, but overall I am happy with the player.
I got this MP3 player primarily to use to listen to music in the car during trips (I use my car's auxiliary cable port). Like others, I looked around at several options before deciding on this one. I chose this one because of the overall blend of features: price, quality of reviews, sound quality, storage space (and the ability to add more through external memory cards), unit size/layout, quality of construction, and diversity of file format storage/playback. Though I have only had the player for a few months, so far I am happy with my decision. This MP3 player is solidly constructed. It is made of metal and feels heavy and solid. We will see how it holds up (including the internal components), but it feels like it could handle some jostling. The player itself is good and sounds nice. I like that it comes with all of the needed cables (charging cable and an auxiliary cable) and the arm-sleeve pouch is a nice bonus if you wanted to take this on a run or hike. Overall, it sounds good and works well. As other reviewers noted, creating playlists is a two-step process. With my old MP3 player, I could create playlists on my computer's music player and directly sync them with my player. That is not possible with this player. However, as again noted by other reviewers, it is still possible to create playlists on this player. I have not used the built-in playlists (the player comes with 3). Instead, I use a workaround which gives me more flexibility in creating and naming playlists as I want. When you connect the player to your computer, you have the option of opening a folder to view the contents of the player. When you open this folder, you then have the ability to create subfolders. I created several playlists by creating and naming these subfolders and then directly transferring my desired songs into the playlist's folder. It is a bit tedious transferring songs into these folders (you have to do it one at a time by looking for each individual song in its unique artist/album folder on the player--which means you have to copy the songs to your player first and then add them to the playlist you created--and then copying each song one at a time into the folder of the playlist you created), but this is a similar process to the one that I used to have to do on the computer before I could transfer the playlists to my old MP3 player. I do have to redo the work for my old playlists if I want to transfer them to this player, but when I create new playlists, I can just do so right on my player and skip creating them on my computer. One note on this, it seems that the order in which you copy the songs into the playlist is the order in which they will appear in the playlist. I tried rearranging the songs after I had copied them into the playlist folder, but when I opened the player itself, the playlist was still arranged according to the original song order. Incidentally, I have used a similar method to this playlist-creation workaround to create genre folders in which to place artists/albums. This is nice, since the generic genre listings are not always accurate or fine-tuned enough for my tastes. Organizing the artists/albums in this way also makes it easier to find what I am looking for on the player. There are fewer genre folders than artist's folders, so if I am looking for a specific album, I go to the "Folder" tab on the player and search for the album. That way I do not have to scroll through hundreds of artists before I can play the one I am looking for (this is my workaround for, as another reviewer noted, the lack of a search tool on the player). I could not do this on my old MP3 player. The added bonus of these genre folders is that they can act as de facto playlists. Just add whole albums to these folders and switch to shuffle mode and let the algorithm decide your genre-specific playlist. This player is also more versatile than my old one as it can play videos, store photos, and the like. Also, the songs upload to this player much faster than they did with my old player. I would probably give it more like 4 1/2 stars, but overall I am happy with the player.

Best MP3 I have ever had!
This review is for the SOULCKER MP3 Player. I have not used the video function so I cannot comment on that. What's in the package: MP3 music player Armband Earphones Screen protector Instructions Micro USB charge cord Out of the box the player did not have the 'slippery' feel of some others. It has a solid build feel to it that says quality. Earbuds are something you expect that's included. After charging the MP3 player I attached the player to my computer to copy some music files to it, Wow! what an easy process. Other MP3 players that I have had in the past had to be managed with some sort of music management program on the computer but not the SOULCKER, just copy and start playing. Playlists could not be easier as well, just create the folder and name it as you want via the computer. You then just select the folder the everything within the folder plays and the sound quality is awesome. I also tried it out with Bluetooth earbuds and the sound quality was just as great. The Bluetooth feature is something I was looking for as I use the player a lot doing my yard work. The FM radio feature is a nice touch. I get up very early and being able to connect my wired earbuds (the wire is the antenna) allows me to listen to my early morning radio and not disturb my wife. Battery life is amazing. My previous player had a life of 20hrs or less, the SOULCKER is upwards of 55 hours! The SOULCKER plays every music format I have thrown at it, MP3, WMA, FLAC, APE. I primarily use FLAC and as I said the SOULCKER sound quality is excellent. Overall, this music player has far exceeded my expectations. It's like they thought of everything possible and tried to jam it into one device. This is a an excellent value for the quality and features of the device.

MP3 player with many features, but some significant drawbacks
Ordered this Soulcker mp3 unit mainly on the basis of the reviews, since the name/maker appears to be somewhat new to the market. The player is much more than just an mp3 player, as descriptions and reviews point out, and that is impressive. The unit is a nice size with a good sized interface screen, and feels solid. The tone and playback on mp3 files seems good, at least to my ear and my uses. Battery life appears excellent. My problems with this unit appear to have been similar to what others have experienced. The bluetooth connectability is limited, and I could not get it to pair with either of my car systems. It did work well plugged into my home stereo via proper cord. My main problems have come with transfer of audio mp3 files from my computer using Windows Media Player, and the manual for the Soulker is woefully inadequate in terms of detail or troubleshooting. I have also had trouble getting assistance, which is apparently accessible only through internet, with no telephone support. I have also been unclear just what connection this manufacturer has with Amazon, since many of the Q & A sites seem to be Amazon connected. To put it clearly, Windows Media Player and the Soulker seem only to "Play Nice with each other to some extent, not in every instance. I have installed a 128G mini SD card, and the process for transferring files to that is so far eluding me (I'm not a novice at computers, but not a wizard either), but I haven't given up yet. With the unit plugged in to the computer and accessed through windows, the miniSD does not show up. Also, the manual is again not very clear on how to download files onto the mini SD so that the playlist accesses it. To sum up, this seems to be a promising unit, if the manual can be beefed up and clearer, and support a LOT more accessible. I like it enough to keep pursuing the support assistance I need.

Easy to Use, Durable and Long Battery Life
It seems a bit odd now to purchase an mp3 player when our phones can do nearly everything. But I recently got a job that banned any and all phone use, but we are permitted to listen to music all day as go about our duties. So I purchased this. It's internal memory is a decent size, and it holds all of my favorite songs with more than enough left over. The screen is large and I can see everything clearly, I even kept trying to hit the icons on the screen instead of using the command pad below because I thought it was a touch-screen. What impressed me the most about this is the battery life. When I bought it, it said that the battery can last UP TO 10 hours, this thing lasted much longer and I had no worries about it blooping out on me during my 8 hour shift. What also impressed me is I accidentally dropped it and it feel a good 3 feet to a hard floor and it did not break, crack or otherwise show any damage. Some other things to say that I did not expect is it does have a tiny speaker if you wanted to share a video with friends or let someone else listen to a song and it's pretty powerful, it also does have the option to turn off the speaker so if your headphones become disconnected it does not suddenly blast what you are listening to for the world to hear. It IS bluetooth capable and no problems with that function as of now. I think this is a perfect product for someone who wants to have a separate device from their phone to store music, pictures or videos (or even ebooks). It's a BIT big so I am not sure how good this would be as a workout mp3 player but they do give you a free armband to hold it. My ONE complaint about this mp3 player is that you cannot skip songs easily, you can't simply hit a side button to skip a song, you have to wake the device up and press the "next" button twice for it to skip. It's a bit annoying. But the positives outweigh that one annoyance. YES I do recommend this product, and yes I would buy it as a gift or again if I do break my current one.

Capable media player with frustrating user interface.
In general, I am satisfied with the functionality of this media player, but the user interface is frustrating. The good: Has support for Audio files of many formats, Several Video formats, FM radio, Text book and Picture viewing. There are additional tools like pedometer, calendar, voice recorder. It has an inadequate internal speaker - but that is one better than many players. It comes with standard earpiece and supports Bluetooth. You probably will do better with better earbuds. It has 16Gb flash memory and accepts a micro Sd card for up to another 128Gb. The screen is good size (if controls were better, it might be nice). There is a control lock function that would be nice if it were quicker and more assured to select/deselect. The not so good: At the brightest, the screen cannot be read outside (except in evening or at night). When moving to the current play screen, the player displays the cover image if available. Sometimes this takes a second or two during which time the controls are unresponsive. The top menu has Icons for the various functions, but it is not a touch screen. You must use the arrow buttons to navigate and select. Since most smart phones are touch sensitive, this is counter intuitive, one often is tempted to press the icon. It would be better to simply have menus. Even better would be menus where unwanted items can be removed. Many functions require digging through many levels and often navigating back up. The menu structure needs to be re-thought and bring more functions closer to the top. For example, to format the SD card, you must go to the Settings menu -> Format Device -> Format SD Card. If the settings menu had a format internal memory and a separate format SD Card, it would eliminate a level of searching. While on the subject of menus, I found that the color scheme in menus (white text on orange background) hard to read unless I am in dim light and have my glasses. It should be a higher contrast or maybe let the user set the colors. The earpieces it comes with are less than spectacular. I tried pairing with wireless ear buds and found that it would only pair with either the left, or the right, not both but I could pair with a full-sized Bluetooth headphone. It comes with an arm band, but I do not prefer that besides, I don't think the controls are useable without removing the device. I have spent a good bit on user interface issues, but once the device is playing these are not important. It performs well and sounds pleasing. At this price point, I choose to be satisfied. Regarding compatibility with Audible. I tried the Audible Sync application. I was able to have it create an Audible folder on my SD card on the device where is placed its activation file. I was able to transfer files from Audible and verified that they were there from the file explorer on my PC, but the device ignored them. I think Audible has made the decision, possibly in agreement with Android and IOS providers that they will no longer license the tech required to support Audible functionality on mobile devices other than Android and IOS. You may still find some that were developed prior to this decision. Look at Sansa Clip players -- They are very basic but can be registered and play Audible files transferred fro a PC

BUYER BEWARE!!! GOT IT FOR FREE!!! IT SUCKS!!! MicroUSB SOCKET DEAD AFTER ONLY EIGHT MONTHS!!!
On edit: First of all, I apologize if my original review swayed you to purchase this hunk of junk. I didn't know it would fail so quickly. I got it for free as part of a promotional, so I'm not out any money. I do, however, need an mp3 player that will hold up. Any suggestions? I purchased this mp3 player in November of 2019. It is no longer under warranty, so there's no way to address the fact that I have to tie the charger cable in knots in order to get the plug into a charging position. The port could become completely unusable at any moment. As it is, the device is completely unreliable, so I am without an MP3 player. I need an MP3 player I'm very disappointed. I keep my stuff until it dies rather than buy new stuff. I only recently got rid of my iPhone 4s that needed an external battery to function. My Sansa Fuze lasted almost a decade before I got the Soulcker to replace it. My ancient Aluratek LIBRE also died recently after many years of use, so I need a new eBook reader. too. Ugh. I'm afraid they'll all be like the Soulcker: BUILT TO FAIL. No wonder they could give it away. _____________________________ I bought this MP3 player for two reasons: 1) I desperately needed a replacement. All I have now is an ancient iPhone with zero room that needs an external battery. I haven't loaded all my songs onto it, yet, but so far, I'm impressed. The device itself is small, but heavy, which tells me it is built to last. The interface is intuitive, once your mind figures out the screen isn't a touch screen and the songs are easy to transfer via the USB cord. The second reason I bought this MP3 player is to play accompaniment over my Powerwerks PW50 amp via a Taotronics Bluetooth receiver. I'm currently using an ancient iPhone 4s with no capacity that must be plugged into an external power source to function. Because it's so full of other things, I can only fit a few accompaniment songs on it. Not only is it a relief to have a device that actually functions, the sound quality is oh-so-much better than that provided by the iPhone. I annoyed my neighbors for longer than usual last night with my singing. ;) I'm looking forward to uploading all of my music in the coming days. It's great to have a digital music player again!

As Expected and More
Honestly, I've been iffy on buying anything digital from an online store but this was worth it! It came in fast and had much more than I thought it would. Not only did come with the actual product (obviously), it came with a free pair of earbuds (which I haven't tried using yet) and a holder to strap onto your arm for running. The plus-sides: One; it's very easy to use. It was mildly disorienting for the power button and volume buttons to be on the bottom right instead of top right like on my phone, but that's not at all an issue. Works nicely for slipping it into your pocket with earbuds on and easily changing the volume. Two; the handbook actually explains stuff and comes in 5 languages (English, Dutch, French, Spanish, and Italian). It actually explains what everything does since there's multiple options on the screen, as well as what do when various things pop up. I feel like I could actually get some useful information from it if I ran into any trouble (even if there are some grammar issues from translating). Three; it has bluetooth capabilities. This was one of the things I've been looking for since I work in the food industry and I don't like having to deal with wired stuff when I'm bending over a customer's food. Four; it has a LOT of space. I mean, it can be used for e-books and those can be 15-25 hours. I don't know why but I thought it would have less space but I easily put on 8 hours of music and there's still over a 15,000 MB of space left (mine came with 15,712 MB total). That's insane! It can also be expanded up to 128G more. Extras: it has the pedometer, calendar, stopwatch, and alarm features. I haven't tried any of these since I don't feel the need to. They might come in handy for someone else, but they don't have much use for me. The downsides: One; you can't create playlists... or edit them. Well, you can't do that on the actual player. You have to connect to another device to be make a folder to create a playlist. This is particularly annoying because you can't see the pre-made folders that are provided, which also means that you can't delete or rename said playlists. Two; the audio isn't great. Take this part with a grain of salt. It's probably just mean being a music nerd but it doesn't have quite the audio quality that I've expected from music-oriented devices. It might also just be the download quality from the videos I downloaded the music from. Overall: this is absolutely worth the money and more. If you're looking for a small MP3 player to do the job, this sure will do it. It has everything you need for an MP3 player plus some more misc features you can utilize. I'd only dock off a star for the playlist thing, but otherwise, I love it! I'm glad I purchased this!

Nice music player when you want to keep your privacy!
You'd imagine your smartphone is all-in-one and why buy an MP3 player these days? Well, personally I hate getting spied upon, and tracked, and radiated/microwaved. So this is a cool solution for listening to your music and for recording notes. Especially on the go. The sound quality is great, it's small and is extendable with a tiny chip to hold even more stuff on it. I was worried when I read the manual it would be complex adding music and recordings to the device but it is super easy. I simply connected it to my Windows laptop, copied over entire folders and subfolders with their contents and all is easily found on the device and plays no worries. So I can have folders for different music genres, folders for educational stuff like EFT coaching, inspirational and motivational stuff like Napoleon Hill etc. It holds quite a lot of recordings! I also tried voice recording. Works well for indoors and close up to the device. Wouldn't recommend to record a conversation from afar though it picks up ambient sounds, just not so loudly. Which is good! Playback is fine with earphones. I should finish reading the manual but I hate manuals - it's cool this is real easy to use even with just looking at the first page in the manual to see where functions/buttons are and for what. The rest is pretty intuitive if it is not your first time using some digital recorder/player or gadget... Cons: Unlike iPhone and similar the playback built-in speakers are not loud. You'd need to connect to some portable speaker if you want to blast out your music or whatever recorded lesson you want to listen to without earphones. But hey, I sometimes wish all phones were like this, because I really hate walking along the beach when I wanna relax and instead of hearing the lovely ocean wave sound I get noise-pollution people blasting their horrid noise at me. All in all: a great gadget I find useful and @ a great price!
