## Description

desertcart.com When it's time to gaze at the stars or take in some long-distance or low-light terrain viewing, look no further than the Celestron 71018 SkyMaster 20 x 80 binoculars. Featuring high quality BAK-4 prisms, multi-coated optics for enhanced contrast, a diopter adjustment for fine focusing, and large apertures, these binoculars offer phenomenal performance. The Celestron 71018 features a 20x magnification and an objective lens diameter of 80 millimeters, giving it a 4-millimeter exit pupil. (The exit pupil size -- the diameter of the objective lens divided by the magnification -- determines the amount of light available to your eye. The larger the exit pupil, the brighter the image obtained will be. A three-millimeter exit pupil is generally sufficient for daytime use, five-millimeters is suitable for daytime and twilight, and seven-millimeters is generally necessary for maximum nighttime or astronomy use.) The Celestron 71018 also includes an integrated tripod adapter rod, a deluxe padded soft carrying case, and Celestron's No Fault Limited Lifetime Warranty. What's in the Box Celestron 71018 Binoculars and deluxe padded soft carrying case Product Description Celestron has designed and engineered the largest SkyMaster models to meet the special demands of extended astronomical or terrestrial viewing sessions. Our large aperture powerful binoculars ensure high performance in all weather conditions and are ideal for astronomical viewing, or terrestrial use. Due to its size and weight—including its very large objective lenses—this binocular should be mounted on a standard photographic tripod for extended periods of use. We’ve included an integrated tripod adapter rod that allows you to mount your SkyMaster binoculars on any sturdy ¼”-20 photographic tripod in seconds. Astronomers have praised the Celestron SkyMaster for decades for its high-quality BaK-4 prisms and multi-coated optics, which enhance contrast and bring out bright, sharp images—especially in low light conditions. The binocular features soft, comfortable rubber eyecups that block stray light. Eyeglass wearers can fold down the eyecups and view with their eyeglasses on. For maximum stability and secure optical alignment, the 80mm SkyMaster model features enhanced structural reinforcement to the main binocular body. Your purchase of the Celestron SkyMaster 20x80 binoculars includes the built-in tripod adapter, objective lens caps, a rainguard, a deluxe carrying case, a neck strap, a lens cloth, and an instruction manual. Buy with confidence from the world’s No.1 telescope brand and a leading binocular manufacturer, based in California since 1960.

Review: Great Binoculars - I was deciding between the Celestron SkyMaster 20x80 Binoculars and the Celestron SkyMaster Giant 15x70 Binoculars with Tripod Adapter . I am glad I got the 20X80s. I was afraid they would be too heavy and have too narrow a field of view. No problem on either count. The 15X70s would have been a good choice too, but I got a used (Like New) pair from desertcart Warehouse. They were described as like new and they were not exaggerating. They were new! The box was still sealed by Celestron. Some of the reviews commented that the collimation was off. If you are going to own a really nice set of binoculars, you need to learn to collimate them. Mine came very well collimated but in the first week my tripod leg collapsed and they hit the ground. It was in the grass, so no major damage, but they did need to be recollimated. I was getting double views of everything. I only had to tweak two of the collimation screws and they were back to perfect collimation. The views were merged and the exit pupils were perfectly round. There is a lot of information out there concerning collimation, some good and some not so good. I recommend going to a forum called cloudy nights. They have a knowledgeable bunch of people there. As far as the binoculars themselves, I don't find them too heavy to hold by hand, but a tripod is a major help for steady views. The views are clear and crisp. They can pick up Jupiter's moons, but I haven't noticed any banding. Saturn's rings were a little harder to see, I couldn't quite make them out. I need to wait for a better night; we've had a little fog lately. I did notice some chromatic aberration while viewing the moon as it was quite bright. With stars and planets, I was very pleased with the contrast. The build and fit is impressive although the tripod mount, on first impression, seemed a little cheap looking. It is a brushed or painted aluminum. Mechanically it seems sound enough, but a chrome finish steel would have been a better choice, but that would have added to the weight. The caps fit somewhat snug inside the barrels but they don't seem to me that they will be very secure for long, only time will tell. Of course you are buying binoculars primarily for the optics, but those optics must be protected, so good caps are important. Speaking of protection, that brings us to the carrying case. Seriously, why did Celestron even waste their time on this? The one I got is a flimsy, unpadded cloth sack. Use it to carry your lunch in or better yet, just pitch it. Get a good padded metal or plastic case. I reused the foam from the Celestron box that the binoculars were in to line a plastic case and it works great, the foam is already cut to the proper shape to securely hold the binoculars. To sum up, I would recommend buying these for terrestrial or celestial viewing, but do get a better case and a tripod.
Review: Strong recommend - I bought these mainly for when a comet comes around, but I find I'm using them probably as much as my telescopes. I'm not crazy about the dust caps, but really that is my only annoyance with them. They are quite heavy, you will need a monopod or good sturdy tripod for them. I'm very pleased with the views, focuser, and eye relief.

## Features

- POWERFUL 20X MAGNIFICATION: Giant astronomy binoculars with massive 80mm objective lenses and 20x power. Pair them with any tripod for long-distance land-based viewing or astronomical observation.
- WORKS WITH YOUR TRIPOD: Due to their size & weight, most users mount SkyMaster binoculars on a traditional photo tripod (not included). The built-in ¼”-20 adapter attaches to most tripods in seconds.
- BRIGHT, SHARP VIEWS WITH BaK-4 PRISMS: The SkyMaster is a favorite among those who view in dim conditions near dawn and dusk or at night for astronomy. BaK-4 prisms maximize light throughput to your eye so you see brighter, more detailed images.
- DURABLE AND WATER-RESISTANT: A rubber-armored housing protects your binoculars from damage and provides a secure gripping surface. The water-resistant exterior stands up to tough conditions and unexpected rainy weather.
- UNBEATABLE WARRANTY & CUSTOMER SUPPORT: Buy with confidence from Celestron, a leading optics brand in California since 1960. Your purchase includes a Celestron Limited Lifetime US Warranty & US-based expert tech support.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I am trying to decide between this model and the Celestron 25-125x80 which i would use at only the lower magnifications. Which should I get?**
A: Hello! In my 50+ years as a user of hundreds of types of lenses, telescopes and binoculars I have found any "ZOOM" product is far less sharp than a fixed millimeter group of lenses. I currently purchased the Celestron 25 X 100 astronomy binoculars and could not be more pleased. Images are all very sharp with excellent contrast - both of which are extremely important when looking at the night sky as well as in terrestrial viewing. I would definitely recommend the 25 X 100 binocs. Hope this helped. Terry D

**Q: Would I be able to see the rings of Saturn with the binocs?**
A: Just got these in yesterday from another retailer and yes if your steady enough or use tripod you can see saturn's rings. You can see the brightest of jupiters 4 moons as star points too. I also got great views of the Orion Nebula (M42) which was amazing. All objects mention above where seen from the city.

**Q: With this pair not having focus or zoom lever, would the 25-125x80 be a better pair for astronomy searching?**
A: I own the zoom model 25-125×80, and now I wish I had 25 x 100.

Please DONT BE FOOL BY THE ZOOM FUNCTIONILITY. 25 x 100 will definitely give you crisp image because its prime lens. My zoom bino has some soft-image problem at the edges and it seems to be very common issue.

Zoom is just useless. 100 aperture will give you more light and 25x is enough to see planets and stars. Again, having individual focus ring is better that you wont get in 25-125x80 model.

**Q: Are these suitable for bird watching? Specificaly birds of prey?**
A: No, not at all they are like hand holding a celestial telescope. If rested on a car roof they might work, but they are annoyingly large for transport. They require a tripod and good for the viewing of a fixed object like a pack of wolves at Yellowstone 1 mile out. This much power and the binocular view is just too bouncy. The best bird watchers / NASCAR watching for the money I purchased were the Vortex diamondback 8X42. Waterproof and very clear glass, great in low light and not terribly expensive compared to the competition in this performance range. Don't get me wrong as they are a nice addition for sky watching the moon, rings on Saturn...., but practical for bird watching no.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Nice binoculars for the money
*by B***A on May 17, 2019*

Bought the 20 x 80 version, some of the initial reviews I read stated you can see specific planets but I am here to say from Central Florida that's not the case I see. The moon comes into view with great detail but as far as other planets not at all with any real detail, you will need higher power of a refracting telescope I feel. Great for rocket launches, air shows or just far off scenery viewing. You have to have a tripod to keep the viewing steady so you will want a sturdy adjustable tripod, the adapter that comes with the binoculars works well with tripod mount so no need to purchase a separate adapter. The optics I feel are quality, the unit overall weight can be cumbersome but you can use without the use of a tripod but small objects may be difficult to see as the slightest movement you make throws off your viewing. I am satisfied with the purchase!
