Works for this sleepy head!
I was skeptical at first but this alarm really works! I can sleep through most alarms and phone calls but this thing is really working. It's easy to set time and alarm in a few short moments. The lamp feature is handy as well for an adjustable glow to a nice bright reading light. The sound of the alarm is pretty basic but the real magic is in the light that brightens over about 15 minutes of the set time for the alarm to go off. Set near your head, facing where you will be facing the alarm clock when waking; thats all it takes. This alarm seems to bring you to wakefulness naturally without jolting you awake or being too quiet. To snooze the alarm is a light tap on the top of the alarm itself. Snooze gives you a pre-set 9 minutes but you probably won't use it cause it seems to be able to give you a decent wake up and more ready to get up than other alarms I have used. The shape of this clock is about 10 inches in diameter. It's lighter weight than I expected but it's not an issue because it works quite nicely. The time display is also easy to adjust the brightness. The shape of this alarm makes it almost require a flat smooth surface, so it doesn't roll or get wobbly. It similar to a photo frame with an easel type leg at the rear of the alarm. Overall it's been a pleasant surprise as to how well it has been working after 2 weeks of use. Now no matter the weather, this alarm is waking me up to what seems like a sunrise! My only issue is that it's so lightweight. That might be a huge bonus if you want to use it as a travel alarm though!

Great for a quiet household
This is the best light-up alarm clock that I've used. PROS 1. I can't sleep with light in the room, and even I can handle the time on this clock. I had assumed I’d be putting a post-it over it at bedtime, but it’s actually dim enough. When my GF visits, I turn the clock so that the side of the clock faces the bed. The time is so dim that it doesn’t create a glow anywhere visible. 2. When you snooze, the light stays on. 3. The beeps are not harsh or loud. I have a second alarm on my phone in case I miss the sound (it’s not super quiet, but I’m a sound sleeper). I’ve had this a week and haven’t needed the phone alarm – although I’m still using it because it reminds me that I need to get out of bed and not just sit there snuggling my kitty cat ;-) 4. It’s attractive and looks nice on the side of my bed. 5. I don’t have space for a bedside light, so I used to have to snap on a very bright overhead light as soon I woke up. It makes a great bedside clock that is very easy to turn off and on. I like that when I turn it off, it takes several seconds to reach total darkness. It’s the right amount of time to snuggle into bed. 6. It’s more stable than I expected considering the shape of it. 7. The light has a warm tint to it (unlike the regular bulb in my overhead light. The clock isn’t warm – just the color of the light when it turns on in the morning. It’s much nicer than if a regular lamp lights up (which is what my old light-up alarm clock did). CONS 1. I have to change the time’s brightness depending on if it’s day or night. If it’s dark enough for sleeping then it isn’t visible during the day or if a full light is on. This wouldn’t be a big deal if the time’s brightness setting wasn’t set in a weird spot that requires me to use two hands. 2. It takes up more space on my bedside table than my old alarm clock. The roundness means it actually takes up more space than just the space that immediately touches the table. 3. It’s stable for me, but I live alone and have an older cat. I don’t think this would be stable if I still lived in a home with children, or if I had younger cats, this would probably be knocked over regularly. When I did have a visitor in my room, it was jostled enough that to be safe I had to place the clock on its back. 4. The snooze is actually placed in a useful manner – just tap the top of the clock. However, I’m used to slapping the top of my alarm clock to snooze it (which this clock can’t handle). The clock and the sound and the light are new enough that I’m still remembering to tap instead of slap the clock, and hopefully that becomes second nature before the novelty of waking up to this clock happens. 5. It’s white. I’m not sure if it will stay white over time. It’s such a beautiful clock, and I hope that it doesn’t stain as time goes on – I’m going to take a damp cloth to it every weekend when I clean house, so hopefully this doesn’t become an issue. Overall, the PROS far outweigh the CONS for my purposes, but if I still had a rowdy home with kids and cats and lots of adults and constant clatter this would be the wrong clock for me.

Good Clock but could be Great!
PRO'S -Gradual lighting AND gradual sound wakes you up and seems to actually be more beneficial than being JOLTED out of sleep! -Able to dim time so that the light does not bother you if you keep it close to your bed! -VERY simplistic controls to set time/alarm and dimmer! -When cutting off alarm in the morning by pushing alarm button, the clock keeps the alarm set & armed so there is no need to set alarm everyday if you wake at the same time everyday! -9 min. SNOOZE!! -Able to set brightness of wake up lighting(10 settings) if you find 10 to be TOO bright to wake up to & you want to tone it down! CON'S -No battery back-up, so if power goes out, you will have to reset time & alarm!(This is just CRAZY not to have) -If using wake up light as a reading light and set it at, let's say 6, but like to wake up at setting 8, you will have to set it back to 8 once finished using it as a reading light! -No radio or sounds, if you wanted that!( Radio & nature sounds are on upgrade models) -No interchangeable light, so once it goes, you will just have the gradual sound to wake to!(Fine by me!) OVERALL Fine clock that does what it claims and makes waking up in the A.M. more tolerable! I just REALLY wish they had battery back-up on this as I get somewhat frequent power outages where I live when bad weather visits! The light, when set to 10 is REALLY bright and upset my wife the first time we used it at 10 but I dialed it back to 8 which makes her happy! I am a mid-heavy sleeper and the gradual sound is just fine for me (and we keep the clock a few feet away from bed), as other reviewers suggested the sound was not loud enough-It's more than enough for us! Lastly, Phillips, COME ON MAN-Can you guy's get battery back-up on these for AT LEAST keeping the time and gradual wake sound alarm minus the light, if nothing else! It's still a great clock that I would purchase again(at the right price)!

Because I wake up in a better way, I feel more rested and ready for ...
A Brighter Start to the Day I moved from Florida to Iowa in the dead of winter and needed something to help me get up on cold, dark mornings. This Phillips Wake-Up Light definitely does the trick. Because I wake up in a better way, I feel more rested and ready for a good start to the day. If you share my sleeping habits, it will work for you too. Wake-up Experience Those of us who are heavy sleepers understand how painful phone alarms can be. The sudden jolt interrupts your dreams and makes for a bad start to the day. With this product I wake up gradually and gently, and I actually remember my dreams! It’s also much easier to get out of bed when there is already light in the room. Trust me, if you’re the kind of person who struggles to flip the light switch in the morning, you’ll feel the difference too. Alarm In case you don’t wake up with the light only, an alarm goes off at the end of the thirty minute “sunrise”. The sound is a standard beeping. Other reviewers have mentioned this sound bothers them, but I don’t have that problem. Because of the light, your body is already awake by the time the alarm goes off. So you’re not jolted out of a deep sleep, just prompted to open your eyes. And if you feel tempted to close them again, you can snooze the alarm for ten minutes by simply tapping the lamp’s surface. Light The light is a high-quality yellow LED light, and you can adjust the brightness on a 1 to 10 scale to fit your light sensitivity. I would prefer if the lamp had more colors, like orange and red, so it would look more like a real sunrise. If this is very important to you, then you can buy a higher-end model of the same product at a higher price ($100-$120). But if you are a college student like me, this $70 model offers a great quality-price ratio that will get the job done without breaking your budget. Design The wake-up light has a sleek and elegant design that looks pretty and saves space on your nightstand. It is also safer because it does not heat up like your typical bedside lamp. I noticed some reviewers were concerned about fragility because the product is very light. Don’t worry! In my half-asleep clumsiness I have knocked it over several times, and it is still alive. Overall, this product makes for a much improved wake-up experience, and you’ll have a better day every day of the week as a result. I’m really happy with this purchase. If you’re anything like me, I’m sure you’ll love it too. The wake-up light is easy to use, affordably priced and well-designed, so there’s no reason not to give it a try!

Great wake-up light, but only with a modification
Context: I hate alarms. I haven't used an alarm regularly for years, and love to wake up with the sun. Unfortunately, during winter, I have to wake up before sunrise, which gets difficult at times. So, I looked into the options for timed/fader lights, and this seemed like the best deal (read: cheapest). This unit has one fatal flaw: It has an audible alarm that you can't turn off, and is the standard, annoying beep. This seems very poorly thought-out, because the whole point of this light is to avoid audible alarms. This would have made it a 1/5 star product and a swift return, but fortunately, this can be fixed if you have some basic electronics knowledge, and are willing to void your warranty (see end of review). After disabling the speaker, I have used the light for several weeks, and I love it. It would have been a 5/5 star product if it came shipped that way. As far as the light itself, it fades in over 30 minutes, reaching the brightness setting at the designated alarm time, which is a very pleasant way to wake up. Normally, the audible alarm goes off as well at the designated time. Then you have to turn off the alarm, and turn off the light with separate button presses. Also, if you turn the light off before it reaches maximum intensity (i.e. before the audible alarm goes off), the brightness setting will stay set at the level it was when you turned it off. Then you have to reset the brightness to make sure that tomorrow it will get to your usual setting. Without the audible alarm, it actually works wonderfully. I have the unit set to a brightness that wakes me up, and soon after it reaches that brightness, I wake up. I just press the light button to turn the light off, and forget about the alarm button (the alarm stays set for the next day). As far as waking up without an alarm, all I can say is you have to try it. It is so much better to wake up naturally, feeling refreshed, than to wake up startled by a loud beeping noise in the middle of REM sleep. The clock display cannot be turned off, but it gets dim enough that all but the most light sensitive won't have a problem with it. It also brightens when the light is on so that you can still see it (although the alarm light nearly overpowers the clock display, making it difficult to read). Overall: I would only recommend this product if you can work with electronics and disable the speaker. If not, I would recommend looking for a different product. How to remove the speaker: Disclaimer: This is provided for information only, to those with the skill and knowledge to work with electronics and PCBs. I take no responsibility for anything you do. To get to the PCB, the face has to be removed, which is glued on. There is a small tab at the junction of the face and the white plastic body at the 6 o'clock position which can be pried open with a small flathead screwdriver. Under the face, there are two screws at 12 and 6 o'clock positions just above and below the clock display, hidden by the gray sticker/cover. There is another screw hidden under the product ID sticker on the stand (where it says "Warning no serviceable parts inside"). There are some more obvious screws, and there are two small buttons that can fall out when the stand is opened. The PCB is held in by small plastic hooks, and the speaker is directly soldered to the PCB. I didn't glue the face back on because it stays on pretty well with just the little tab, but you might want to.

This one is the brightest!
I bought this philips sun rise alarm for myself and another brand that had more features- fm radio and sounds- for my child and this is the better alarm by far. This alarm is brighter! It literally look like a real sun rise in my darker than dark room! This is a must buy. Dont cheap out and by the less expensive one. This light is bright and wakes you up softly and effectively. If you are seasonally depressed, have to work early and hate getting up, are angry when waking up, wake up late because u missed the alarm- TRY This one. It helps and worked for me and I cannot sing enough praises for this alarm. I actually just bought a second one today for my sister - it is that good. Feel better - wake up better - buy this alarm.

Ingenious product
This is great item to try to restart your algorithm of sleep. It is intended to help your body wake and sleep as you should. Sometimes like babies, our bodies will get our days and nights mixed up. This was suggested by a sleep study therapist. Wonderful product.

Cool idea. This alarm clock turns on a very ...
Cool idea. This alarm clock turns on a very dim light 30 minutes before the time you have set for the alarm to go off, and it gradually gets brighter and brighter. I'm a pretty heavy sleeper, and still I usually wake up before the alarm has a chance to beep. I have read that this is supposed to help you wake up more in sync with your natural REM cycle. I'm not sure if thats true, but waking up with the gentle light is much more pleasant than waking up suddenly with an alarm blaring in my opinion. I only have 2 complaints: 1. It is definitely usable as a nightlight or reading light. I read in bed before I fall asleep, and hoped this would also replace my old swing-arm nightstand lamp. Unfortunately, the brightness settings for the lamp and the brightness settings for the alarm are not independent. For example, I usually set it for a 6/10 to read by, but I need a full 10/10 for it to wake me up. If I don't readjust the brightness after I turn the light off to go to sleep, then the brightness fails to wake me up in the morning, and its just a plain old alarm clock. Not a big deal, and I would probably still give 5 stars if this were the only problem. 2. The snooze function is impossible. There is no snooze "button," you supposedly have to just "tap" the top of the clock to get it to snooze. In 6 months I haven't mastered this technique yet, and when I want to hit snooze, I'm usually half asleep, so I don't think I will ever get it right. It isn't the most stable thing in the world; it rests on its circular frame with a "kickstand" leg coming out the back. Usually my gentle taps in search of the snooze turn into frustrated smacks, which results in the whole thing rolling onto the floor. I still highly recommend this product for the price, if only to experiment with wake-up lights to see if they work for you before investing in a higher-end model. This is by far the best bang for your buck that I have found.

It's the simplest and cheapest of these light options that I found and it works great. Pretty much a must if you live in a northern city or are always having to wake up before sunrise! The nice easy slow wake up of the brightening light is much better than being jarred awake by your normal alarm! I tried out a mid-range version that friend had but I found the limited extra features weren't worth the extra cost. This model gives you the option to set the light brightness (1-10), dim the clock (but not turn it off completely), and set the volume of the alarm (1-10) which is a simple beeping style alarm sound. On these lights I prefer the actual buttons over the "touch sensitive" buttons of the mid-range versions and the simple beeping sound, though not as cool as the 4 "natural" sounds of some of the other versions.... is fine especially since by the time the alarm sound goes off you are pretty much awake anyway. The alarm sound just helps ensure you actually get up out of bed at that time.

I bought this for a friend in India. I actually got the right one for me in Europe and when I saw the same product on amazon, I ordered it. But the product is totally different as I saw in the picture. Disappointed with this order.

Great table lamp as well as alarm!
Waking up during the winter months was a serious struggle! So dark in the mornings trying to wake up for work and hitting the snooze button repeatedly because it didn't feel like morning yet! I decided to look into these wakeup lights to try and help and ordered this model as it was a good deal and I didn't want to shell out a bunch of cash on a bunch of extra features for something I wasn't even sure would work for me. I really like the look and design of this clock. Its very sleek and modern looking! I really like that you can dim the clock face numbers quite a bit. I am a super light sleeper and any little light tends to bother me, but the lowest setting on this was actually not bad! You can also adjust the brightness of the surrounding ring light. I really enjoyed using it as a table lamp because of this. Super bright or just enough light to see around the room was very convenient. Setting the alarm is easy and there's only one alarm tone so not much to play with in that regard. The light starts to gradually illuminate approx. 30 mins before your set wake up time so that it gently eases you awake. I often would wake up, because I am a light sleeper, before the actual alarm! In the summer when the sun rises earlier I found I didn't use it as much as the contrast wasn't as strong as when it's dark out still. Only other downside was that it's plugged into the wall with no backup battery so if the power goes out.... you will wake up..late haha... to a blinking screen. Overall I enjoy using this clock as a bedside light everynight and as an alarm clock in the darker/winter months! And always have my iphone alarm set as a backup!
