Change your focus, take another picture and again, view your diffraction spikes. Is the center spike moving further from center? Then change the direction your focusing and try another picture. Watch the direction the spikes are moving and when the center spike passes the middle of the other two spikes, change direction and fine tune your tuning knobs until the center spike is in the middle. Often, if the seeing is not perfect, it's hard to focus on an ever-shifting image. With the focusing mask you can go to a bright star, center the diffraction spikes, and then go to a planet. Or, sometimes I have even used this method directly on the planet. Using it on jupiter's moons is perfect. If you increase your exposure and gain you even eliminate the jiggly jumping of the spikes because over a long exposure you get the AVERAGE position. I had to look through the camera's viewfinder to achieve it. There was not enough light and clarity to be able to see any kind of a star-burst on Arcturus to make any adjustments in the focus.
