Is it possible to use this graphics amplifier with a laptop other than an alienware?

The Graphics Amplifier uses a proprietary connector developed by Dell exclusively for their products, so unless other manufacturers can get the license from Dell to use their proprietary connector, no other laptop will ever be able to use this.

I have the older M17x R4 (2012) will it work with the graphics amplifier? What actually makes this compatible with the Laptop?

It will only work for R6 laptop. I have the M17X R5 and it is not able to connect with this stuff because older Alienware do not have the special interface. :)
