Steel Log Saw Horse

After reading the reviews on several metal sawhorses I took a punt on this one from Oregon and as it turned out I made the right choice, as it has exceeded my expectations. It arrived very quickly and the weighty box gave me a good feeling as you need weight and strength in a sawhorse. I unpacked it all (it was well protected by large amounts of protective wrap) checked everything was there and laid it all out on the living-room floor, where I then familiarised my self with all the component parts against the assembly instructions. To be honest once you have understood how it fits together (using the Amazon product pictures and assembly sheet) it is a 30 minute task and seriously if anyone has major issues with this then they should not be let loose with a chainsaw. The secret is to ensure the serrated edges are at the top and the three leg sets are put together with the serrations facing inwards and a locking bar at each end with the two short vertical bars in the middle going down to two lateral support bars, then the rest falls into place. Yes, there are no spanners supplied, but, it only requires a couple of 13m and 14m open and ring spanners to do the job and again if you do not have your own toolset at home you probably are not the right person to be running around with a chainsaw! Once it was assembled I rechecked the tightness of all the bolts and nuts and took it outside for a bit of Stihl 2 stroke chainsaw action. So, here are the facts after a solid heavy duty log cutting session: 1. It is a robust solid structure with a good coating of deep red paint which supported some of my heaviest 6 to 8 ft logs weighing up to 16 kgs. 2. The serrated edges really gripped the logs and stopped any turning, obviously each log was rammed down into place to ensure the edges were gripping it. 3. I adjusted the sawhorse width to ensure different sized logs were getting maximum grip and the end locking bars did their job with no slippage. 4. There was no problem with cutting down through the logs anywhere across the width of the horse as there are a few inches below each log prior to meeting the metal bars below with plenty of room to finish the cut, just so long as you know how to use a chainsaw and it is sharp, so you are not putting too much weight on it during the cut. After use the horse folds up nearly flat and goes nicely into the shed. So would I recommend it?.............hell yes this is a great bit of kit and it is well up to the task it is intended for and I am glad I put down most of the negative review comments to people that are not used to handling tools and basic DIY. None of these very few negative comments were borne out and I am blown away by this truly great addition to chainsaw (or bowsaw) log cutting, well done Oregon.

This took 30 mins to put together and the instructions were not the best. However, the product holds logs and stops them turning. It folds away very well and is sturdy. I was very pleased with it.

A sturdy, well-finished sawhorse at a reasonable price. The missing star is the fault of the assembly instructions which come in the form of a diagram - rather small, so that detail is hard to make out - and no text at all. This does not do justice to the product and would be a really cheap 'fix'. I ain't daft - I've built two raised-panel doors using only hand tools, a pair of harpsichords, gates and fences still standing after many years - but I had to partially dismantle the build twice. Not a huge task but irritating and unnecessary. When built, it feels solid with no wobble.

Why didn’t I buy one of these 20 years ago because my back was 20 years younger! Solid piece of kit 100% helped my annual pre-winter wood chop. Bit fiddly to put together common sense required over diagram instructions but worth the effort. Holds any size log and makes it so much easier to cut!

Very pleased with this saw horse, plan to use it for small branches (~4" diameter) using a reciprocating saw. It grips the branch very well, there is a fair gap between the branch and cross bar; should be able to avoid hitting that with a reciprocating saw (chain saw users beware). There is a knack to operating the side locking bars, also first check they have a decent amount of metal on them (seen some images where the cuts outs were too long, resulting in a weak/broken locking bar). As others have said, assembly requires 10mm, 13mm and 14mm spanners/sockets. The orientation of the locking bars in Figure 1 does not agree with Figs 2, 3 and 4. Take careful notice of the orientation of the locking bars from the start. See marked up photo which agrees with Fig 2, 3 and 4 (locking bar pivots from the outer arm on one side, and from the inner arm on the other side). Initially I followed Fig 1 and the saw horse would not open up, I reversed it in accordance with Fig 2, 3 and 4 which resolved it. I cannot figure out why it would not open, maybe it was a twist in the frame; anyway it opens/closes fine now. I will update this review when I have used the saw horse in anger.

I was surprised by how substantial this saw horse is. It's strong and weighty. I've not used it as yet but I'm confident it will do the job well.

Product is fine after you spend 4 hours trying to figure out the instructions. They ran out of paper to explain the instrutions a bit more in-depth, and chose to use 1 piece of paper for everything. Very hard to follow. As such I ended spending a ton of time and frustration on assembling the thing. What a nightmare.

Really nice saw horse replaced an old wooden one, super easy to move around and grips the wood well. Only four stars as its not the best on uneven ground so worth baring in mind. Have been using for over a year and still going well. Folds away nicely too

Se ve sólido y bien construido, comprado a buen precio. Con respecto al montaje, y como dicen otros usuarios, si sigues las instrucciones seguramente fallarás. Recomiendo observar el dibujo ya montado del producto que viene en la caja (en el dibujo salen numeradas las piezas como en las instrucciones) y mirar las instrucciones solo para saber los tornillos a usar en cada pieza.

Bin sehr zufrieden, das Produkt ist durchdacht und leicht zu montieren. Die Anleitung ist völlig korrekt, man muss nur genau hinsehen, weil alles sehr klein gezeichnet ist. Das Gerät steht stabil und fixiert das Holz zuverlässig. Weil ich 190cm groß bin, muss ich leider gebückt arbeiten...
