Possibly dumb question, but are these fairly easy to use solo? I have no one to assist with measurements.

Yes you can use it solo, I do! there are only a few measurents that you'll need to be in front of a mirror so you can see the millimeter mark on the calipers. It may take a little practice but you can definitely do it by yourself and get accurate measurements.

how many parts of the body do you measure? seems like some of them just want you measure the abdomen...i feel like you shpus probably measure more

The instruction manual includes tables and instructions for a 5 site test: chest, arm, abdomen, hip, leg. There are other methods as well with more and less sites.
