Quality lock for storage
Great heavy lock. Ideal for storage lockers because of it's design, strength, and the shackle size fits the latch hole.

Amazing Lock! Terrible Spare Key Experience!!!
***Update: After 2 weeks of waiting, I got sent a new lock and keys directly from ABUS and everything works great now! I ordered one of these for a storage unit and they do come with two keys that are keyed to specific number by ABUS. Both of these factory keys work great with the lock and I have had no issues there. The issue comes with trying to order spare keys from ABUS. I registered the lock on ABUS' website not long after I received the product and I wanted to order two spare keys for it, so they ask to punch in the number that is on the card attached to the keys. I do that, pay for my keys, and a week later I received two new keys that look identical to the factory keys that shipped with the lock and NEITHER WILL OPEN THE LOCK. Both with go in completely and start to turn the internal mechanism but they will not fully turn to open the lock. I emailed ABUS and provided pictures of the serial on the back of my lock, and pictures of the security key number that were attached to the keys and I said "Im not sure if I accidently got the wrong spare keys shipped for what happened" and asked about the possibility of reordering spare keys. I get no response from ABUS for a week but magically two more keys from them were shipped to me (for free, thankfully) and I received them two days ago: THOSE DIDNT WORK EITHER! I am currently waiting on a response from ABUS to see if I can take one of the originals anywhere and have spares directly copied since I must have gotten the wrong key code mailed with the original keys. I will update with any other info. or I might just return this lock and look elsewhere.

A few bucks more to protect valuables
Terrific block for storage units. Almost no way a bolt cutter can get a grip on the shank / very resistant. Stainless steel and cover for keyhole resist rust. Worth the extra cost. Recommended!

Up Your Security For Only a Few Dollars More
Externally this lock looks very similar to so many of the other disc or puck style locks. The difference is not just that the shackle is hardened, which makes it very difficult to cut or burn through, but the Abus Plus core which uses a disc detainer system rather than a traditional, and shockingly easy to pick 4 to 5 pin system. I wanted to replace the cheapy uhaul lock that I purchased ($8, that should be the first red flag) when I got my most recent storage room. I already had a Master disc lock that was supposed to be "maximum security" Master Lock Padlock, Magnum Stainless Steel Discus Lock, 3-1/8 in. Wide, M50XD . While it is true that is does in fact have a boron carbide shackle that is exceptionally hard, harder than most hardened steel, it comes in a package that is comically easy to pick. It is worth pointing out I am not locksmith, not do I wear ski masks on the weekends and climb skyscrapers with suction cups while avoiding people with talking Trans Ams. With all that in mind, it took me about only about a few hours to learn how to pick that lock in less than a minute using (initially) metal automotive probes I modified based on what I saw in several videos. Ultimately I used some soft wire stock I crushed and modified using nothing more than a common hammer and a Dremel fit with a sanding barrel. The method is (I believe) called "zipping" or "raking". Numerous videos I have found have suggested, not in any kind of hyperbolous (sure, that's a word) fashion, that the the Abus disc detainer core locks require such a skilled smith that one video even suggested that if someone CAN pick the lock, they probably won't be the person stealing from you. Saying something is "pick proof" is a misnomer at best because in most (certainly most average CONSUMER) cases, given enough time, almost anything can be picked, as such, pick "resistant" is probably the term to use. Bottom line, this offers a MUCH higher level of security than comparable commonly recognized US consumer level products, inclusive of virtually everything found at Lowes, Home Depot, or similar big box. I was duped by the packaging, which is what many MFRs are counting on. I saw boron carbide and thought, well that MUST be the best, not realizing how easily it can be breached. Imagine keeping your Lamborghini in only a car port with a sign on the window saying, "Please don't steal this car." Live and learn I suppose. The really amazing thing about all of this is that the Abus unit is only about $10 more than the Master. I have since gotten 4 more for other needs. Money well spent, and not much at that.

Original Abus Diskus padlock received in excellent packaging and at an affordable price of Rs 1,500; it is made in Germany. I am glad that I received a slightly older version of the product, because the older version comes with a hardened steel shackle. The lock is equipped with a highly pick resistant Disk Detainer core made entirely from brass with false gates. I think Indian brands like Godrej, in collaboration with Abus, should fill the market with these reliable locks, instead of the dimple-key locks that can be picked in less than a minute!!

Es un candado muy bien construido, robusto y con un tipo de cerradura extremadamente segura. Excelente relación entre calidad y precio.

I love this lock. It has a very satisfying *clunk* to it when you lock and unlock it. It has a good weight to it and feels very well built. I live on Vancouver island and this lock has stood up to the entire rainy winter with zero issues. Since it's a disc detainer lock it's unlikely that your average lock picker will be able to pick it without a specialized tool. ( check out the Lockpickinglawyer on YouTube to see what I mean). I searched long and hard for a good lock and came to the conclusion that you cannot find a decent lock in stores, so I spent the extra and bought this one with confidence for about $55 CAD. Money well spent, much cheaper than replacing the items it's securing. I also like that it looks like your average disc lock, but is a much higher level of security. It's German built and the quality reflects that. Also, never force the key. You'll likely come across the review on YouTube ( or maybe it was Amazon USA?) of the guy that was upset because he broke his key off in the lock.. with disc detainer locks you must rotate the key gently until the discs are in order and you feel the key go all of the way in, it was his fault he broke the key, not the locks fault.

Well, the Lockpicking Lawyer sent me to this lock, like many people. If you do not know who this person is, you owe it to yourself to look him up. This lock gave him enough trouble picking, that it's one of the padlocks he recommends. It's easy to see why. The key is uncommon, so picking tools and skills are less likely to be in possession by the bad guys. The shackle is thick, and the body solid, to resist physical attacks or cutting. The size and shape does limit the places you can use it, so make sure it will work for you before spending the money. The lock may seem pricey, but that's the cost of engineering and materials manufacture to make a solid product.
