Review: Great resource - It seems strange buying a paper technical book in this e-age, but it has proven useful in this case. Having a copy of _Mastering Ubuntu Server_ handy to flip through while working is a nice break from the usual constant web searches for information. And this book encapsulates a surprisingly dense and varied amount of info on myriad topics considering its relative compactness. LaCroix's book cleared up confusion on a number of topics, even ones I'd spent time researching online (where info can be unreliable at best). I've certainly received 5 stars worth of value from it already. The only negatives I can list are the lack of some topics and the slim coverage of others, but that's inevitable in a comprehensive technical manual. The other is the weak index, which has failed to point me to the right location many times. If you are looking for info on a specific command, you will likely have to just browse the chapter related to that command's topic. Neither of these is worth a star deduction (maybe 1/2 star but I'll err on the side of generosity). Overall, a great resource for anyone beyond beginners who want a handy, well organized reference in paper form that won't break the bank or your back. Review: The Kindle Version is Great. The Hard Copy Book Edition will be Fantastic A Fantastic Addition - I purchased the Kindle Version, and will be Buying the Hard-Copy for my Desk. The book is great in offering all the detail you need to Install A Linux Server on almost any kind of computer. From a Refurbished PC to a Raspberry Pi, to a Virtual Box; you will find the Ingredients to get your's up and running. And the Book is very up to date, very current. Easy to Read. Easy to Follow. And I have not found any area where the book leaves you hanging with Unexplained Unexpected Behavior. Chapter after Chapter flows, you can start Building your Linux Sever as you start the Book. And once your well into the depths of the book, your server humming, the Exploration Begins. What can I do Next. And the Book is Right There; to adding Apache2 Web services, to File Server Software and Mounting Routines, too so much more. The Chapters on Users, Root User, Passwords and Group Accounts although could be considered Blaine becomes so Very Helpful. The book is very well laid out, and the information is easily retrievable by using the Kindle Bookmarks for Reminders. My own personal thought is that Ubuntu Server is One of the Better Technology Manuals out there. A Great Buy. A Very Good Read. Specific to the Cause. Insightful and Very Helpful. Learn to work with Ubuntu and Linux
This has been a great book for me to learn what I have found through google. I am a software developer that has to help administer windows based networks. More of these are adding Linux servers to them and I’ve been learning Linux through google for a very specific task. This book has brought what I’ve encountered into a single resource that has really reinforced and clarified Linux and Ubuntu admin activities I have had to do.

No other word than Excellent!
The author does a master job in Mastering Ubuntu Server. I've used Linux but I mainly stumbled my way around it. I decided to get serious about it so am reading this book cover to cover. It is not for the complete noob that doesn't know what to do with a command line in a terminal. But you don't have to know a lot to get a lot out of this book. Describes me perfectly.

Best Book on Ubuntu Server
I really liked this book. Jay LaCroix did an excellent job of explaining Ubuntu Server to me. As I read his book, I followed along and setup a Ubuntu server as a Virtual Machine at Atlantic.net. The book is easy to read and the ideas flow nicely. If a friend of mine wanted to learn Ubuntu server, I would recommend this book. I highly recommend it if you are new to Ubuntu server and want to learn the ins and outs. Rodney Wirtz

The Linux Book You're Looking For
Yes, you probably need this more than you think. "Server" is nothing more than the assumption that your Linux machine has no desktop and you work completely in a line command environment. For users of any Ubuntu flavor,. Mint, Kali, etc. My Linux library was becoming irrelevant so I picked up this one and Linux Basics for Hackers and it's good to have both, but this one is the better of the two. Very readable and user-friendly and full of answers to how-to questions.

An excellent, thorough and technical book on Ubuntu servers presented in a readable format.
I wanted to set up a web server at home on an old PC and this book was perfect to get me started. It was technical enough (had to re-read several times) but also provided step by step instructions on how to install and configure Ubuntu as a server. With up-to-date technical information, this book is perfect for anyone wanting to explore how Linux works under the hood as a web server.

kick a$$
this book rocks. Studying for my Linux+ cert and i needed more than the "Linux 101" books that are out there. This focuses on Ubuntu and how to set up a functional server. Real world application of all the stuff you learn in Network+. Awesome!

Excellent resource for anyone setting up an Ubuntu 18.04 Server.
I had been looking for a book to help me set up a VPS instance of Ubuntu server for some time. The authors easy to read style along with his excellent You Tube videos have been a great companion to me setting up my first server online. This is not a beginners book, however Jay LacCroix explains all the the major concepts clearly, drawing on his own experience using Ubuntu Server. The style of writing is such that you can read it cover to cover or just dip in for reference. I've read a lot of books on Linux and this is the best. If you are setting up an Ubuntu Server buy this book.
