The Red Lantern 20" Taka Japanese Bamboo Hanging Lantern is a sizable, plug-in ceiling lamp featuring a handwoven bamboo frame around a fiber-reinforced rice paper shade. It uses a standard 40W US bulb and includes a UL-listed power cord with switch, enabling easy installation without an electrician. ## Description

At more than a foot in diameter, and more than a foot and a half tall, this is a comparatively large and substantial hanging lantern, and quite beautiful. A fiber reinforced rice paper cylinder shade, with split bamboo in a caning pattern woven around it, this lamp does not require an electrician. Just put in either a U. S. standard incandescent or compact fluorescent light bulb and plug in the power cord. Uses a 40 Watt medium bulb. This a wonderfully unique ceiling light, great over a reading chair or dining room table, use a pair for a particularly elegant effect. The long power cord attached to the bulb socket means you can hang it low or high, and it's ready out of the box, just buy a bulb. However, if you would prefer to install this as a ceiling light fixture, you will need to hire a certified, professional electrician.

The biggest draw back is its lack of design as ceiling lamp for an american home - it doesn't mount on to the ceiling and it never advertised it does. My low rating is because of the unwillingness of the seller to accept a return of a unused lamp more than the design or the look of the product.

Our living room only has plugs, so we bought 2 of these. They came with their own hooks and switch on cord. We put in our regular lightbulbs in them, hung them up, plugged them in, and now have light and style in our living room. The price that we originally paid was around $35 each. I just came back here to buy one more for another room but won't pay $77.
