I have a miniature Dachshund who just gets himself into just a hysterical insane state whenever he's around other dogs/surprised by a new guest, etc. Just this terrible shrieking screaming bark. Awful. So I was at wits end and needed something drastic to pull him out of that state, a state that isn't healthy for him to be in. I had previously tried a spray bottle, which was actually helpful on walks and stuff, but then you're just like that person spraying your dog in front of everyone all the time, and it's also not really conducive to being inside- shooting water around? No. So I did a lot of research on collars. Citronella? Remote controlled? Vibrating? Static? Settings? It's a lot. I went to some stores and looked around in person. My dog is small, so I was worried I was maybe taking things too far. But I saw this one, with the beeping settings. I liked the idea that the beeps warn the dog several times before ever even getting to the static shock. That way getting to the point of the shock would not be as common. I have to say... son of a gun this thing works. That collar beeped that first time and I was like WOW! My dog just was very confused by the beep and stopped barking to look around for the source of the beep. If he got back into barking within 30 seconds, the collar beeps again for a little longer. If he barks AGAIN, it beeps AGAIN for even LONGER. That last time? It beeps angrily and then zap. I have only known the collar to zap my dog once. And it was a bit scary, I'll admit. My dog DID NOT APPRECIATE IT. He was shrieking and trying to get the collar off. I felt bad, and took it off right away. But that one time was all he needed. Now, I put that collar on if he goes outside and I know theres people out there, or other dogs barking, and he doesn't make a freakin' PEEP. If he does (which is ok- he IS a dog and is allowed to bark), the beep is all it takes. He knows. Even when people come over now, he is so much more subdued. I do not keep the collar on when inside and hanging around the house. Only when high stress events are happening-- Landscapers, other dogs barking in the backyard, strangers walking by the glass door with another dog. I keep it on the lowest possible setting. I've had it about 2 weeks and it rarely gets past two beeps anymore. Just that one shock was all it took. I have tried to recreate the shock for myself. I tried fake-barking, screaming, everything and the thing will not simulate on me. I wanted to know what it felt like at least? Only reason I am giving it 4 stars is bc I see the potential for that cycle of death people have mentioned. Where the dog is upset at the shock and barks or cries and the device thinks its barking and keeps shocking. That is definitely a risk you take with this. But I think thats just something that a dog is unique to--- not all dogs react the same way to that sensation. However, the memory of that event should be enough that with the collar on, the dog will do anything to avoid that experience again. But of course life doesn't always work out that way, especially with dogs! But, in all-- pleasantly surprised with this. ### ⭐ I'd give 0 stars if I could *by R***B on Reviewed in the United States on December 26, 2014* When I got the collar, I read the instructions, the box said there were levels of sensitivity and that the shocks could be adjusted. I will post of picture of the box where it says the corrections can be controlled. The box is wrong, the manual only mentioned the sensitivity can be adjusted. There are 7 levels of correction, but they only work in cascade. It first will create a sound and light up, the second time it will do that too. The third time was a mild shock, not much more than a 9V battery on your tongue. It gets stronger four more times, then it shuts itself off for one minute. There is no way to only have it stop at the first mild shock.I tried it first to see how bad the first shock was on myself. It was not bad. I decided to put the sensitivity at the middle level with the thought I could adjust it up or down if needed. We're trying to get our dog to not bark so much when someone comes to visit, she'll bark and bark even after we open the door and are talking to the visitor. So we put it on her and played the "door bell game." My daughter rang the door bell and she barked, it made the noise, she barked again, noise, again she barked and it shocked her, she paused, she looked more confused than hurt it definitely got her attention. After several seconds, she barked again, and this time it really shocked her. She squealed, here's where it got bad. It heard the squeal as another bark and shocked her again, and she cried even harder and louder and started to try to run away. Luckily we had her on her harness and were able to grab her and quickly got the collar off, but not before it shocked her one more time. My wife said she could feel the shock through our dog!So even though our dog wasn't barking, merely crying, it kept shocking her. It was terrible. She was shaking for about an hour afterwards. Needless to say we're returning it. We're going to go with a collar we trigger and will allow us to control the correction as well. Maybe we could have tried a lower sensitivity but after that first experience we didn't want to try it again. If you do decide to use it, I highly recommend you have your dog on leash, put it on the lowest sensitivity and have someone there to help you get it off quickly if it decides to go rogue on your dog.Stay away from this one. It's sold as many different brands, but if you look at the pictures, they're all the same collar, just branded differently. Some of the brands I found are Petainer, Ipow, Dog Trainer, Shock Collar, Oternal.PROS:Fairly cheapYou can adjust the bark sensor sensitivity.It will reset after 30 seconds of no barkingIt will reset itself after all 7 corrections have occurred, although we didn't get this far.CONS:It interpreted our dog's squeal or cry as a bark. I consider this a major bug/malfunction of the product.The higher levels seemed way too harsh.You CANNOT control the correction levels. Don't believe what it says on amazon or on the box, only the sensitivity of the bark sensor.CONCLUSION:I really wish it would've stopped at the first shock level, I think that would've been enough to train her over time and stop her bad habit because it did get her attention. Unfortunately there was no way for us to use it more than once to that level to be able to train her. Because it escalated so quickly. This is just a poorly made product, go with one you can control. Please don't make the same mistake we did and trust a microchip to not malfunction. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ LOVE this collar *by S***N on Reviewed in Canada on April 24, 2015* LOVE this collar. My shih tzu would bark frantically and made us all nuts! I bought this collar based on the other reviews and highly recommend it. Skooby finds the collar comfortable and doesn't mind wearing it. This collar is both effective and humane; the collar issues two warning beeps before issuing a mild shock on the 3rd bark. I'm ok with a single little bark to let me know someone is around, and Skooby stops barking immediately after the 1st beep. The zapper has 7 progressive settings. I accidentally shocked myself on the two lower settings, and they are really mild. They're just enough to get the dog's attention, but don't cause pain or discomfort. Skooby only needed one or two gentle zaps at the lowest setting to learn . The collar worked instantly, and effectively. Skooby is quiet, and a much calmer dog.
