Her practice is dedicated to bringing the benefits of yoga safely and effectively to people affected by obesity or excess weight. Abby has been practicing yoga for more than 50 years. Abby’s first DVD, Yoga for the Body You Have Today, was selected by Fitness Magazine as one of their Fit 50 was selected by More Magazine in both their Best Yoga DVDs and Best Workout DVD Dozen. She has appeared on a PBS Civic Summit as an expert panelist on Obesity, Weight Loss, and Body Acceptance. As a national presenter, Abby’s talk “Yoga is Not a 4-Letter Word” inspires and guides her audience to use yoga as a path to self-love and acceptance. With her body-positive approach to yoga, she uses the Three As: Awareness, Acceptance and Affection. Her work has been featured in national print and broadcast TV outlets, including CNN, NBC, CBS, and Fox network affilates, plus US News and World Report, Redbook, and American Fitness. The Obesity Action Coalition presented her with its Bias Buster Award for her work exposing and eliminating fat-shaming on national television. At 74, she leads a national teacher program and is on the faculty of Sundara Integrative Yoga Therapy. Earning her BA in Sociology from University of Texas at Austin at age 34, Abby was a UT Presidential Scholar, graduating with highest honors. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi. As a marathoner and multiple triathlete, her goal is to change not only the image of yoga, but to get people of all sizes and situations moving and improving their health. Her motto for completing her Dublin Marathon was “26.2 miles with no nap.” She finished 7,093 out of a field of over 9000 in 8 hours, 51 minutes. An avid cyclist, her next goal is to ride a metric half-century.
