Works Well - Has a Short LIfe - Buy Extended Warranty
I have purchased a number of these over the years to monitor the temperature in my hot tub. The hot tub is located on my patio, just a few feet from my kitchen window where the ambient weather base station is located. This unit connects to the base station without problems and does a good job of monitoring the temperature. The reason why I gave this only 4 stars is because it generally does not last more than 12- 18 months. MAKE SURE YOU BUY THE EXTENDED AMAZON WARRANTY. Then, when it goes down - which it will - you can get a replacement for free.

works ok in the lake
I wanted to monitor the temperature of my lake and I already owned a -8478 wifi station, so I bought this. It has a plastic loop on it which I attached to a line and the dock. Its been working all spring and into the summer without an issue. Decent purchase and seems to work good. Not sure battery life yet, but its been 3-4 months and still working fine

LEAKS. pile of junk.
Leaks. Battery life is about 20 seconds. The compartment will be flooded with water anyway, even if it wasn't a battery hog. Doesnt have a worth while o-ring to seal. fell apart. sank. terrible app. terrible way of connecting. doesn't auto connect at all. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY seriously.

I keep buying these since i have other devices in the family of products and the info center that they work with. It does what it needs to do but only last 2 years. At the price they charge that is just too short.

Reliable pool thermometer that can be integrated with Home Assistant.
On the plus side, this is a reliable pool thermometer which, if you use Home Assistant for home automation, can report its state to Home Assistant. Two downsides: 1. These do not last forever and will eventually leak and begin eating up batteries. I just replaced one that was about five years old. Know what to expect. I deducted a star for this. 2. Not every Ambient Weather sensor pairs with every Ambient Weather base. This one pairs with the WS-8482 which is a very basic multi-sensor display thermometer. This will not pair with more sophisticated Ambient Weather weather stations. As a general matter, it would be great if Ambient Weather aimed for universal compatibility between their sensors and their base stations. Alas, they do not.

Good quality, work well with my Ambient System.
Perfect for adding pool temperature readings to your existing Ambient system. Setup is a snap, quality is good, and the range is much better than other systems I have used.
