Its soft and stretchy over the neck which is good because my toddler hates the plastic snap ones and has quite a big neck. Its also wide so it covers the shoulders and arms and can sit into the lap a bit without being too big. You can also pack it up into its own pouch to take with you.Initially it was fully waterproof (water ran off in beads) and it doesn't take on water quite like normal fabric but the waterproofing hasn't been perfect and it has stained a tiny bit-but then toddler food is invariably neon red/orange and nearly everything we own is to some degree. This has survived heavy use really well.
