I'm glad I did, because this is a great, basic tea ball. It works. It holds the tea leaves. It submerges in my hot water. It opens and closes. It makes delicious tea out of whatever I put in it. So, it does everything that I had hoped for.However, all of the criticisms about this tea ball are probably true. The clasp is a little difficult to open and close. I found the chain absolutely worthless, but I didn't want to use it anyway. Luckily, the chain is very easy to remove. The parts aren't the highest quality, and I wouldn't be surprised if it breaks in 3-6 months. I bought mine directly from Amazon for $2.79, not one of the 3rd party China vendors that sell these for $1. The product arrived in a Prepworks-labeled plastic blister-pack. I have used it numerous times over the past month and it still looks great, with no stains or rust.I also bought a similar looking $1 product from a 3rd party seller. It looks somewhat similar, but the construction quality is noticeably worse. The clasp doesn't line up as well or grip as well. The mesh is wider, so you cannot use it with finely ground teas. I figured this was also a way to make the tea more flavorful and easily "shake out" the remaining liquid from the tea bag after I'm done seeping my tea. Yes, this tea ball serves its purpose and does all of the above.A few warnings, however (and reasons why I only give it four stars). Since it is mesh, this thing gets crushed and bent pretty easily. I was storing it in my "heavy utensil" drawer and I had to move it. I also bring mine to work every so often and it really doesn't handle the trip well, sometimes it gets smooshed.
