Installed trouble-free on 2 Windows Machines, and works.
When burning some CDs and DVDs to send my wifes' MRI and X-Rays to the Doctor, I realised that I no longer had the computer with a LightScribe labeling drive. This one came today and I installed it trouble-free on both an HP Windows 7 Pro machine and a Compaq Windows XP Pro machine. For some reason it seems a little faster burning data on the Windows XP Pro machine than the Windows 7 Pro machine. I found the HP LightScribe software on a software archive site and used it. Yes, if you have a stack of LightScribe Discs, I highly recommend this drive.

It works fine so far. I'm happy so far
It works well. Seems fairly solid but I've only had it a couple of months. Will try to get back and review in 6 - 8 months after purchase date.

Perfect!
This DVD drive fits the bill nicely! I keep it in my tech bag, for use when needed.

Instructions would have been nice
Make sure you connect both cables. One is data and one is power, although USB can supply power. The short cable is very short so you may have to perch the thing awkwardly.

Unable to read DVD on MacBook Pro with macOS High Sierra - Version 10.13.6
The device hosed my connection to other external disks when I connected it. I maintain a connection to 2 Lexar thumbs and a Western Digital 2 TB external SSD for code repositories. When I connected the JOTEC drive via the supplied USB-C connector, all other external drives were immediately detached. The JOTEC drive would not read the DVD (tested and readable on earlier MacBook with internal DVD). Also, it took three reboots of the MacBook Pro to return it to the previous state of reading other external drives. Sounds like the drivers need more work. This is a paper weight.

Sort-of-works but not reliable
For a DVD burner that's nowhere near the cheapest on the market, the lack of reliability was shocking. It worked most of the time with DVD+/-R single-layer disks, but failed sometimes -- even failed to recognize a new disk, at times. It failed most of the time with DVD+R dual-layer disks, but worked sometimes. Not much better, in overall measure than DVD burners available for half the price. I see lightscribe as a hype and of no value, whatsoever.

Well worth the price.
My old HP computer died, and Every disc I burned I used lightscribe discs to label them. Without thinking, my computer repair business had me buy the Dell I am using now. I loaded my Lightscribe software, went to label a disc, and the cd-burner wasn't compatible. I wasn't happy. Now with this external Lightscribe compatible drive, I'm back in business. just plug and play.
