does each one come with a nozzel pack?

I just got these and I did not get a nozzle pack for each sprinkler head. Each sprinkler head had a 3.0 nozzle pre-installed, that's it.

What is the spray distance? I have already tried the Rain Bird CP5004PC which is advertised as 26' - 38'. That is too far for my yard.

The actual distance depends on 3 factors: The pressure of your water system, the Nozzle you install on the Rain Bird, and the adjustment you make on the rainbird itself. The Pressure you cannot change. It is what it is. Normally you do not change the nozzles very often either. So with a particular nozzle, you set the Rainbird on maximum and see how far that goes. If it is too far, you just adjust the flow on the Rainbird and shorten it to whatever degree you want. (Less than 10 feet is sort of a waste and there are other rainbirds for that). So you will have no difficulty shortening the distance. People who have a problem usually cannot get a long enough spray because of the low pressure. You will have no problem.

Why does my inlet measure 1" wide with a tape measure

Pipe sizes do refer to physical dimensions, but the plumbing industry standard for the sizes of pipe is not always as straight-forward as measuring the pipe. The "pipe thread size" is measured and based on the inside of the pipe. But, to actually determine the size of a pipe, the outside diameter of each pipe or fitting must be measured and compared to a PVC thread table for size identification. In this example, a 3/4" NPT pipe thread has an outside diameter of 1.050 inches.

How different is the 5000 series compared to rain bird 32sa?

The 5000 series (42SA) has a 3/4" inlet and generally uses larger nozzles ( 1.0 to 8.0 GPM) The 3500 series (32SA) has a 1/2" inlet and generally uses smaller nozzles ( .75 to 4.0 GPM)

Great Upgrade – Reliable and Easy-to-Install Sprinkler Heads

I’ve been slowly replacing our 15-year-old sprinkler heads with these new Rain Bird 5000 models. They’re well made, easy to install and adjust, and I expect them to last for many years. The heads are adjustable from a full 360° down to 40°, making it easy to fine-tune coverage. They easily reach over 25 feet with strong, even spray. These are great heads - easy to install and adjust and great range as well. Rain "curtain" is better than most I've tried where distance sacrifices radial coverage. Can't speak to longevity as I've only had them in the group 1/2 a season. I'll let you know if they don't survive the coming winter freezes.
