Line of Duty - Series 5 [DVD]

One of the best British crime/ police investigation series. Great acting. Keeps you at the end of your seat.

This show is brilliant. The writing is first class. There hasn't been a weak season so far, and that's quite an accomplishment when you consider the amount of detail present in those stories. Jed Mercurio has a huge talent. If you like police procedurals, and scripts that are trying to stay as close as possible to the way things are in law enforcement, you will become addicted to this show. It has the perfect balance of action, personal drama and realistic investigation work. It even has some humour here and there, just like in real life. The concept of this show is also very interesting because it's about anti-corruption investigators going after other law enforcement personel that have ties with criminal organisations. It really shows how it works from inside the police system and all the internal politics and so on... Without a doubt one of the best police shows ever made.

What can I say ? This really was excellent right from the start to the finish. I only recently sat down and watched season 1 to 4 (one after another) again and it is surprising how many things from the past are referred to in new seasons. They're only little things but when you've just looked at them all in succession you spot them immediately and they add to your enjoyment of the newer episodes. This season was just as good as those gone by. Every time there appears to be an answer to a question it seems to bring up more questions. I see one reviewer seems to be a whodunit expert. He knew halfway through who the bad person was. And that is so hard to believe for me. I didn't know till the last minutes of it and was completely shocked. I'm not saying anything about that part of it as I don't want to ruin the story on anyone who hasn't seen it yet. I WAS delighted to hear the announcer say, as the credits went up, that there is to be a season 6. Although, looking at the closing moments of it, it was quite obvious that there was plenty left for more to be written. Long may it go on. Don't be in any doubt about buying it. You won't be able to stop watching once you've started.

One of the best UK crime series ever, equalling Messiah and The Vice. Jed Mercurio proves to a top class writer of crime, as his Bodyguard series one proved. Crime, in all of its permutations, is skillfully exposed in this absorbing series, with many unforeseen consequences. You will be glued to your seat as the plot is cleverly peeled back. Buy all six series as they will repay you with absolute enjoyment as the well-crafted characters play their roles in holding the line.

I really like "Line of duty" very much, I consider it one of the best police TV-shows. It is thrilling, gripping, intelligent and seems realistic - at least concerning the characters who do not appear as superheroes looking like models, but as people like you and me with faults and weaknesses. I especially like the development of DS Steve Arnott who, after his crucial injury in series 4, now appears more mature, still trying to cope with physical and surely also psychological aftereffects. He also now faces the situation that he is one rank under his mate Kate Fleming, now calling her "ma'am" (which for me as a German not used to addressing someone by their rank or official title seems quite odd). This time the emphasis is clearly on the action rather than on the well-known interviews for which "Line of duty" has become famous. We follow the Organised Crime Group very closely which is quite thrilling (especially Arnott's meetings with Corbett) until the end of the fourth episode where something happens which completely changes the atmosphere and course of the story. From then on for me it gets quite confused with the former tension having nearly completely ended. There is only the question left who the superior police officer pulling the strings in the background is, and a lot of time is spent with interviews by AC-3 with the most probable person whereas Kate and Steve, who normally run the show, have only very little screentime. The end, too, is not in the least as spectacular than the end of former seasons. You always expect something big to happen, but a clear climax is missing. Okay, maybe that makes it more realistic in the end, but it also leaves the audience a little disappointed. We are consoled by the outlook of a possible final showdown in the next (and maybe last?) season.

Line of Duty has become sothing of a cult series in a few series - from the first one, perhaps. The stories of the anti-corruption police, the famous "internal affairs" in America, has gripped the spectators in the UK and has created somethng like a religion, with followres and organised clubs of discussions mushrooming everywhere. And deservedly so, because it is a fascinating work, thinly interlaced in its on-going seasons. This season is perhaps the best so far, and it is the darkets. There is more action but also more pain. The main character, the very undervalued Stephen Graham, gives a lesson of doubt, fear and many other emotions. A great work.

From Series One, 'Line of Duty' has shown the very best of British Drama. each story has an intensity that grips from the off, and doesn't wane or wobble. In my opinion, British Dramas are the best in the world that delivers believable plots and characters without Hollywood hype. Long may it remain that way.

This is season 5 and I have already watched the other 4 seasons of Line of Duty. Season 5 did not disappoint and is as great as the other 4 seasons of Line of Duty.

I love this BBC series, and this latest one is a great fun for those who have watched from the beginning. A predictable but shocking person is involved, or has been involved in crimes, but in the end, there was a twist and we don't know whether that individual was really a bad guy or innocent, and framed. Still it permits a question mark, for viewers. With a lot of actions, and the same unique characters, and Steven is portrayed as a really cool, smart detective, with social class oriented inferiority complex. Very British. Overall, it is very interesting. A Japanese bilingual viewer.

Well written well acted Plot possibly a little OTT but then again what isn't these days Standard from the previous 4 series maintained

I am a great fan of this series and can't wait for Series 6 to be available in Region 1.

Anche Line of Duty sta scivolando verso l'esaurimento delle storie e si sta avvoltolando su se stessa. Quasi irriconoscibili i forti personaggi delle precedenti stagioni. Finale prevedibile e puntate tirate per i capelli. Una grossa delusione.
