You put it in when you put the water in the basin, before you attach the vacuum unit. It will stop working once your water gets saturated with dirt and the air will start to smell like dirt instead of orange. To avoid this, be sure to check the color of your water after each room is vacuum to see if you need to change the water. **Q: Why don't you offer a multi. scent package ?** A: I love the orange fragrance but the multi. scent package is a good. **Q: What size is this bottle?** A: I have only one bottle of rainbow left and it is(fresh air) 16 fl oz I have ordered orange fragrance it is probable 4 to 5 oz I Don't recall the exact size ..The time I Ordered I ask for artnaturals oils (sweet orange ) the box has 8 .33 fl oz of different scents all very good.
