I don’t need to worry about mold as water just drains from the bottom, and there are two openings in the front to help dry utensils faster.The knife slots are much better and way cleaner than knife blocks or knife guards, as they do not touch the blades! What a smart design. The top panel is removable if you don’t need the knife slots. Plus, it looks great on my kitchen counter. I had a wimpy silverware drainer that went with my dish drainer... This is totally awesome. Very hefty size. Of course, for my use, I just took off the knife top shelf and left that area open wide. Now I can get a ton of silverware in there. I like the high sides because my longer utensils fit great. And, since it has it's on drain dish underneath, I don't have to attach it to my dish drying rack. Now, I have more room there and this looks utterly efficient and attractive sitting right next to my double tiered dish drying rack. A perfect look and fit.... and a perfect size. I'm also going to get another one (again removing knife top shelf) and use it in my bathroom for storing brushes and whatnot. It's perfect to corral all those tubes and this and that around my sink that I like to have handy and will look great (already tried it out).
