Simple Matters: A Scandinavian's Approach to Work, Home, and Style [Mustard, Jenny] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Simple Matters: A Scandinavian's Approach to Work, Home, and Style Review: Jenny Mustard does a wonderful job with photos and content! The sense of Lagom begins! - My first impression was "wow what a beautiful and classy book cover." It is very simple and to the point. I have just skimmed the book so far, but it has so much content about a ton to life aspects about Lagom which I am now studying. After being a "bursting at the seams" type of gal I have adopted a new outlook on life and have JUST begun doing the "Swedish Death Cleanse." I started with the closet which was suggested in another book a voila! About 3/4 of my closet clothing was in plastic bags ready for either consignment or St. Vincent's - a worthy charity where the money I know will be used wisely unlike Goodwill (sorry Goodwill, you're just too greedy and the money stays more within the company than out there to the needy in my opinion.) I have skimmed the topics which range much wider than I anticipated since I have a few books on lagom now. The photos are definitely quality professional and "simply" beautiful! The whole book gives you a sense of serene from the beginning. I noted quickly the photograph of the author and included it with my review. Page 106 was dedicated to the title "Being Pale - Embracing Your Imperfections." Well, if that's an imperfection I'm all for it, she has porcelain skin and beautiful eyes lined in black on top and shaded with a metallic dark blue surrounding her beautiful blue eyes. Very simply done make up shows her reflection of her simplistic nature. As you might expect she was photographed wearing mainly blacks with sometimes white and perhaps a hint of grey or some other color, but very chic design in the cuts of her clothes. She is quite small, almost waif like but looks healthy. So that gives you a little more background on the looks of the author. Much younger than I had expected actually though the book was published in just 2018. I intend to embrace the minimalist approach to decor and stick with many of her ideas from the photos. What a peaceful feeling you get just from flipping through the book when you get it! I intend to rid my life of the "too much look" of multiple designs, paisleys, prints of various periods of my life and just go for a clean look. I already had the all white towels like a spa resting on a simple black shelf, I got rid of my Boho orange and green multi-color bamboo rug and opted for a simple pine colored bamboo rug bordered in 1 1/2" of black canvas to replace the old one in the kitchen and it just opens the place up and looks much classier! Now to simplify the multi jumbled mug collection hanging on a shelf on wall. It now seems just like unorganized clutter even if it is nicely placed. I'm going to continue with cleaning out the rest of my bedroom closet with the shoes and belts and such, then move on to my books. I think I will start to embrace the new Kindle movement and just do without books everywhere. Cripe, I must have over a hundred just sitting in a storage unit across town I am paying good money just to sit there for the last 20 years! What a waste, think about it! Of course I will still maintain a few versions of my trusty bible, 4 high school yearbooks, and some cook books. But hey, even with the cookbooks, everything is on line now. I just want to keep a few like the Betty Crocker I grew up on from the 60's when I was born and my mom taught me to cook from it and some quality basics books on the methods used in cooking. When spring arrives, I plan to get out to that storage shed and just empty as much as possible and just keep seasonal items like my Xmas tree, ornaments, and other seasonal things like my fishing gear, and of course still hold on to my great grandfather's steamer trunk because it is a lovely antique heirloom I plan to pass along to my nephew when he is older and in the mean time is is a wonderful large dark green grey color that will go well in my new apartment when I finally get everything else in a state of Lagom and I pack up the rest of my belongings to go to a place where they have white walls and light wood floors instead of the ugly 30 year old multi-color pebble rug that looks so hideous and crinkles when you walk on it! But so is the life of a single gal that pays dirt cheap rent to save for a great place and now has a handle on what my decor vision is. The book is surely going to be a serious guideline to keep me on track while trying to find peace in simplicity. I plan to read it through, then along with the help of other favorite Lagom books and the concept of Swedish Death Cleaning plan to live my life to it's most simplified and uncluttered state. I highly recommend this book I can tell immediately is going to be my "bible" for quite some time. I hope you enjoy it as much as I am so far! It was worth the price and I would buy from this company again for it's ease to work with, quality and state of the book I received, and it's reasonable price. I plan to purchase more of these books for friends after they start to notice the "change" in me and see the improvements this book has brought to my life. Thank you Jenny Mustard. You are a genus in the art of Lagom! Review: To be true to yourself, you first have to know yourself ... - ... and to know yourself, you may first have to eliminate all the distractions in your life. Okay, that synopsis is not fair to the author, as her book is so much more than that. But it was one of my takeaways. Jenny Mustard is a self-described minimalist (at least on her blogs) but in this book she pushes that thought farther with simplicity, seeing it "... as freedom from rather than sacrifice of." Minimalism always seemed like something I should strive for, while the idea of simplicity put forth in this book seems like something to fall into because if feels right. When you pare away all the stuff that's not really you, what you are left with is ... you. And what you want, what your passions are, what calms you and what excites you. This book is by no means prescriptive. Instead, in her direct, humorous, and idiosyncratically quirky way, you are shown how this works for the author, as well as pointed towards a number of different ways it might work for others. You simplify your life in tandem with defining your priorities, the things that rock your world, whether in the area of keeping your home, having rituals, traveling, working, relationships -- she covers the gamut. If you would like some ideas about how to keep your life focused on what you love, buy this book. If you are already happy and enjoy reading about someone else's road to being happy, buy this book. If you are not sure, go to YouTube, type "The Mustards" into the search box, and watch five or six of their videos. If you enjoy them, buy this book, as it gives an extended dose of Jenny Mustard's unique take on the world.

My new favorite everything!
Like sitting snuggled up under a quilt with a cuppa and your bestie who keeps mesmerizing you with every word she says! Enchanting! Wise! Soulful! I ate up every delicious page and now I'm ready for a reread! My new favorite everything! Like Jenny herself, this book is full of sage wisdoms and beauty. I feel like a better version of myself the more I surround myself with Jenny and her hubby David. Such preciousness. I always take away how to live life on your own terms and in your own time from what Jenny writes or says on her youtube channel. This book is so much more than I anticipated. I'm hoping Jenny's cookbook will come to Amazon in something other than French soon, and I look forward to other books written by her in the future! I hope David will write a book on movies as well! I'm an avid follower of their youtube videos and Instagram. So much of the heart of Sweden in such an adorable couple! Share the wealth! You won't be disappointed in this book! A true treasure to savor again and again!

The book on the inside is great! The outside did come a little worn, however that’s to be expected when you purchase at a lower discounted price, which I did.

Such a Cozy Read!
Reading this book feels like a day curled up in a blanket by the fire with a cup of tea. I came to this book already loving Jenny and David and was so excited to support them by purchasing and reading the book. Not only is the book physically beautiful (even the kindle version which I purchased as a minimalist myself) but Jenny’s writing feels so warm and cozy like spending time with a best friend. Even if you have seen all of her videos on YouTube the book is very much worth reading, the information is new and presented in a different form that moves at a smooth relaxing pace allowing you more time to enjoy it than a video would. I recommend book this to anyone looking for inspiration, a relaxing and uplifting read, or even just a beautiful book to flip through. Sit down with a cup of tea and enjoy!

It has a very hygge feeling while reading, so calm. It's for Jenny's fans mostly, but I enjoy it very much anyways.

Wonderful, unique book - this book is super relaxing and doesn't tell you to do anything specific (except for the recipes) - it is more philosophical than that. It goes beyond simple minimalism of reducing material possessions and discusses freedom from the distractions that cloud our headspace. I stumbled on Jenny's YouTube channel after various moves forced me to become more minimalist and realizing I loved being free from all these items! Her channel only inspired me more and I am glad she stayed true to herself by making the book different than any other book on minimalism I have come across.
