Susato Kildare Low D Whistle

I have several regular whistles. This was my first Low D and I was concerned about it being plastic. The tone is very good. Comes with cork grease. **FYI for whistle newbies - I have trouble with the grip but that's not this particular whistle - just any long whistle. If you're trying to decide if Low D is for you in general, consider whether you'll have the reach. I know some folx use the Piper's Grip but I end up with squeaky notes from inadequate coverage. I instead break the cardinal rule and just use my pinky as an alternate for the right-hand ring and it works great. But I did not realize when I ordered how much larger the grip is on this than the whistle so noting here for anyone ordering blind online.

Susato are excellent instruments and fun to play. Sounds great.

To be fair, this is my first low D whistle, so keep that in mind. It also took me a while to adjust to playing it. My hands are medium sized, and I had to use a modified pipers' grip. (I much appreciated the adjustable ring/stop that makes holding it easier.) Once I got used to playing it, I really fell in love with how this whistle sounds. Like I said, this is my first low D, so maybe all of them would get this reaction from me, but I love playing it. The price was decent, the whistle sounds great, and I enjoy it every time I pick it up. That's 5 stars, in my book.

Okay I’m just learning to play and this is my first whistle period but I’m so glad I got it. The sound is great and it’s not as hard as I thought it would be. One tip make sure you put your right hand up top or you won’t be able to play it! I found out the hard way, lol! The seller adds a link to a book of Celtic tunes which is awesome. They got it here quick too. I’ll be doing business with them again! If you are thinking about getting a low d just do it, pull the trigger it’s totally worth it!

Impressive sound from this reasonably priced whistle (even from this novice whistler). More impressive yet was the customer service received from the seller, Hall's Crystal Flutes (thank you Pam).
