## Description

The Shop Iron 3/8" Drive Stud Extractor is ideal for removing stripped, rusted, broken or smooth studs. The hex drive can be a driver with a wrench, ratchet, or impact tool. This tool will work effectively on 1/4" to 1/2" (6mm-12mm) studs.

Review: Worked! - Only works on very small studs. Chances are you need the larger one, but if you broke the head off something small this can grab what’s left. You need several threads exposed to be able to grab as well as a fair amount of space around the stud for the tool and quite a bit of space above, but if you have all these it will definitely extract the broken bolt.
Review: Worth every penny! - Worth it weight in gold. Used properly grabs and holds strong. Was able to remove numerous stripped studs with no problems. Fantastic tool!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Whats the best tool for pulling out broken manifold bolts on 99 silverado 2500?**
A: Ive used this tool on maybe 10 vehicles now doing manifold bolts. I like this tool so much I bought 5 just to hand out to people I know do the same type work. With 30+ years working on cars I love this tool.

**Q: Does this require the use of an Impact? Cannot be done by hand?**
A: Impact not required but would sure make it easier. If doing by hand and you only have a short stud to grab onto, you need to make certain you are dead center and remain dead center while turning.

**Q: Will this work on wheel studs? Had 2 broken off on my F150**
A: I used it to remove exhaust manifold to crossover pipe studs on a 350 Chevy Suburban. Worked fine. Very much worth the cost.
If Fords are like GMs, the wheel studs are pressed in from the back of the hub and have flutes (splines) at the base to prevent turning. You might check the backside of the hub to see if there's a rivet style head. I don't know about pre-1990s trucks though.

**Q: Can you use this for pressed in studs**
A: Not 100% sure what your asking. If your asking if you can attach this to a pressed in stud yes. If your thinking about trying to use this remove the stud by turning and pulling on it Im not sure if it will due that because it designed to work with a threaded stud or broken bolt. Not sure your actual problem. If your tryung to remo e a pressed in stud make a sleave that slides over stud then use a nut to push down on sleave to pull out stud.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Worked like a charm....
*by Z***P on May 2, 2015*

Excellent tool. Worked like a charm to extract 2 forty year old exhaust manifold studs (10mm dia,) on an aluminium motorcycle cylinder. Made in Taiwan, but seems to be fairly well built. I am looking around for other studs to pull out now just for fun ... :-) It basically looks like a chuck from a drill - but with some teeth to give it grip on the stud. I squirted a bit of WD40 on the stud first and let it sit for a bit. Then I used 2 wrenches to tighten it down on the stud (my stud had a non-threaded section in the middle - so it did not damage any threads). You will need a 36mm and a 24mm (or a 3/8 in drive - rachet handle for example) to tighten this puppy down. It states that it is suitable for "impact" wrench use, but I just used the wrenches and it worked fine. The key is to make sure its not slipping - so tighten it down good and make sure there is no debris on the teeth in the tool which will affect the grip (ie. metal scrapings from previous stud removal). The package states the tool can go down to 1/4 inch in diameter - but have not tested that yet. Definately worth the money - and proves the old saying that having the right tool for the job makes all the difference... Pro: - Decent quality and value - Solid build - Handles multiple diameters (adjustable) as indicated in description. Cons: - None - Clearance if you have a tight spot to work in (which was not my case).
